Oftentimes we hear gunshots around here but you dont see any Police Action so the minute i saw the police, i thought, wow. Reporter Oakland Police said a 2monthold toddler was shot once while in a car with her mother on outlook avenue. Investigators dont know yet whether it was unprovoked or an exchange of gunfire between two cars. We are looking in to see what led up to the shooting, what was the motive for the shooting, was there any type of exchange of gunfire. We do not know that at this time. Reporter Police Confirm they are investigating to see whether the shooting of the little girl is related to wednesdays murder of a man on myrtle. Perhaps some kind of retaliation, but they dont think the toddler was the intended target. We just got a brand new police chief and whatnot. I hope shes able to do something to make a difference. The little girl was rushed to one hospital and then moved to another. Elissa harrington is live at Childrens Hospital oakland with the latest on her condition. Reporter the little girl is being treated for a gunshot wound and im told she is in stable condition. Family member one of her cousins just came out and spoke with us briefly. I cant answer no questions, but i can let you know that she is stable and we just ask for prayers. Were holding up fine. Thank you for asking. Reporter i also saw the family inside the waiting area earlier. They were praying and looked devastated. Community advocate named darrel alums came to the hospital to offer support. He told us the little girl is fighting for her life, her mother, aunts and uncles and grandparents are all here. He said the family is asking for prayers. This little girl is 2 years old. We shouldnt have to start off our year 2017 in oakland with a baby dying like this. So just keep this child, keep the family in prayers right now. Family members told people in two cars were shooting at each other when a stray bullet hit the little girl. Police do not know if the car was parked or moving at the time. The girl was first taken to highland hospital, and then brought here to ucsf benninghoff Childrens Hospital Childrens Hospital in oakland. Reporter some of the regions smaller reservoirs such as uvas seen from sky 7 are expected to overflow this weekend and issues of falling trees, debris log jams and slides could threaten utility pipelines. A San Francisco woman remains in Critical Condition after she was badly burned in a twoalarm condominium fire this morning. The fire broke out around 8 00 a. M. Inside a condo near twin peaks.
