protests today. this crowd downtown more than doubled in side for a moment of silence. dozens of college students also held a sit-in in a park. two presidents will speak at a memorial service for the officers killed in the dallas attack. >> and the chief of police has a challenge for protesters who want to see change in the department. our sister station in texas is live in dallas with more. >> reporter: it is another sad day here in dallas. take a look at this growing memorial. not only are people dropping off flowers and balloons and cards and other mementos, some of which they made themselves, but we're also seeing people showing up just to see officers. people are coming by to hug or shake hands with officers like you are seeing now. some of them want to take photos with them. now tomorrow morning the president, first lady and vice president and former president george w. bush and his wife are expected to arrive. the president and former president will be meeting with those injured as well as family members of those killed in the line of duty. this comes as the dallas police chief is telling protesters to come to the police department, to come apply for jobs if they want to make a difference. all of this as this city here continues to mourn a candlelight vigil is scheduled to begin in just one hour. reporting live in dallas, abc 7 news. >> thanks very much. well there are new surveillance cameras at the santa clara county jail. it is a big step that the sheriff's office said is necessary toward the implementation of reforms in what is a troubled system. vic lee is live at the jail tonight in san jose with more on the story. vic? >> reporter: well, dan, the camerass have already recorded incidents. a violent attack and then an inmate accused deputies of excessive force during lockdown but the cameras cleared a deputy who was falsely accused of inappropriately touching an inmate. in march, security cameras captured this huge jailhouse brawl. it happened less than 24 hours after sheriff lori smith installed seven cameras which she bought with her own money from costco. this after county supervisors told her it would cost millions of dollars and years to set up a quality monitoring system. fast forward to last week. the last of 270 cameras were installed in the main jail. costing only $20,000. a stopgap measure until that more advanced system can replace them. assistant sheriff. >> the intent so to provide greater transparency to the public and our jail community population. >> reporter: this is on the heels of a string of excessive force accusations against the jail. last august three deputies were charged in the beating death of michael tyree. then two guards were charged with assaulting an inmate rubin garcia. one filed a federal lawsuit charging excessive force against several guards. the cameras are said to already be paying dividend. when a six inch shank was revealed something rare. >> it is the ability of the inmates to stage and carry out a well-coordinated and planned attack on a inmate. >> there is no audio and it takes forever to download the tape but for now the sheriff's office said they are good enough. vic lee, abc 7 news. a man accused of exposing himself faces charges for a scuffle with police that injured three officers. milpitas police said french marquez jr. exposed himself last month to children in the play area of the mcdonald's restaurant on milpitas boulevard. as they arrested him he hit another officer in the head and tried to grab an officer's pistol. a man accused of molesting several young girls appeared in court today. they say daniel miranda molested the girls at his home between 1999 and 2013. miranda is being held on more than $6 million bail. the first allegation against him was made in 2014 but deputies didn't have enough evidence at the time to file charges. investigators believe there may be more victims. a man vallejo police as the ringleader in a woman's disappearance pleaded not guilty today. we were in fairfield when the 26-year-old appeared before a judge. prosecutors believe he and three other people kidnapped a 57-year-old for ransom. her son alerted police when he received a text message demanding $60,000 for his mother's safe return. >> it is very unusual. she is never done anything like this in the past where she's just disappeared. so that leads credibility to the fact she's been kidnapped. >> the woman hasn't been seen since june 29th. all four kidnapping suspects are still in jail. the country's oldest park ranger plans to return to work tomorrow in the east bay following a violent robbery. two weeks ago today someone broke into the home of this 94-year-old and beat her and robbed her. she vowed to remain in her house and continue working. she is set to return to his job tomorrow at the historical park in richmond. she told abc 7 news she doesn't want to be portrayed as a victim, instead she wants to be viewed as a survivor. >> and that she is. well this evening, a bit of a black eye for a golden state warrior superstar. video from tmz showing draymond green being arrested and accused of slapping someone at a bar in east lansing, michigan. green went to college in michigan state university which is in east lansing. abc 7 news reporter melissa arrington is live with what happened and how the another man. his arraignment is set for later on this month. if convicted, he could face up to 93 days in jail. video paid by tmz sports shows the warriors power forward draymond green in handcuffs. the san francisco chronicle sent it was a slap that sent him to jail early on sunday. the victim who was not hurt was allegedly taunting him. officers saw it happen outside of a bar around 2:30 in the your surroundings. in san francisco, jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. walmart announced its plans today for taking on amazon's prime day which is tomorrow. walmart has announced free shipping on all online orders through friday with no minimum purchase required. walmart has been cutting prices on a variety of products, including electronics and toys and household items to match amazon. amazon is offering special deals for prime members. san francisco based gassel, navy and banna republic are all having special sales to compete. well we've all done it and ruined our phones by dropping them on the floor or maybe in the water. samsung gal ex s-7 active for at&t claims to survive the rough and tumble of every day life so consumer reports checked out the claims of the $800 phone. >> the galaxy 7-s active promises to survive drops and dunks but even the biggest klutz. is that true? consumer reports brought the phone into the labs to find out. engineers dropped the phone from five feet on to a flat surface. according to the phone specs. >> the phone did well after dropping on concrete. we really didn't see any damage. >> samsung claims it is water-resistant up to five feet of water for 30 minutes. so consumer reports submerged a different s-7 active in this tank to simulate five feet of water. this time the results weren't good. >> the first s-7 active we dunked failed test. it was obvious. the screen malfunctioned. >> a second active was dunked in the tank and also failed. water was visible in the front and rear camera lense on both phones and there was water in the sim card slot on the second. after several days, the phone still wasn't working properly. consumer reports contacted samsung which said the galaxy is one of the most rugged to date and the company went on to say there may be an off chance that a defective device is not as water-tight as it should be. other galaxy phones, the s-7 and the edge make the same water resistant claims and both passed the consumer reports dunk test and at the top of the smart ratings. >> samsung is investing the issue with the s-7 active and they are still offering the earlier versions of the active phone. the galaxy shows us how pokemon go works and why it is so popular and the warning police are sending out tonight. and plus putting samsung's latest phone to the test. is it water-resistant and does it work after you drop the thing? we'll take a look. also -- >> a lot of generous people out there making this possible. >> the big milestone today at a san francisco nonprofit that helps thousands in need every day. and later -- >> can you believe that. some bay area over the weekend, the nation and bay area was invaded by a swarm of colorful imaginary creatures called pokemon and swarms of players looking for them with their smartphone. >> jonathan bloom is live at the ferry building in san francisco. are you finding anything out there? >> reporter: yeah, there are a lot of pokemon out here at the ferry building. we've been watching as people walk by like this trying to find them using smartphone. players are getting exercise and making new friends but we've heard they are wandering in the lobby at the fremont police department and other places that are not so safe. >> what are they doing? >> you just see these groups of two to four people standing around staring at their phones. >> to the naked eye, there is nothing there. but through the camera on your phone -- >> and you are able to see a pokemon sitting on your shoulder. i'm going to get it right behind you. >> the game spot editor took on the tough task of teaching me pokemon go, a game you play out in the real world. >> so i have a couple of balls and items. and you just do that while you are walking. >> reporter: the object is to catch the creatures. >> a pokemon just showed up right over there. >> and they are different from any species. >> this is a zoo bat. >> they prefer different habitats. >> in the city, they will appear. here is a park. >> this park is packed with players. >> looking for pokemon to show up and they are walking around like zombies. >> reporter: face down in a virtual world you may not notice dangers in the real world. >> last thing we want is for someone to get assaulted or robs for trying it or to wander into traffic and get hit by a passing motorist who is not paying attention. >> it could get worse. >> you see the flower pedals and ma means someone released a lure. >> reporter: police arrested three tunes that lured pokemon to attract players and rob them at gunpoint. and in wyoming -- >> i didn't know what to do. >> reporter: she was looking for water pokemon but found something else. >> there is a dead body -- >> reporter: police say enjoy the game but be aware of your surroundings. in san francisco, jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. walmart announced its plans today for taking on amazon's prime day which is tomorrow. walmart has announced free shipping on all online orders through friday with no minimum purchase required. walmart has been cutting prices on a variety of products, including electronics and toys and household items to match amazon. amazon is offering special deals for prime members. san francisco based gassel, navy and banna republic are all having special sales to compete. well we've all done it and ruined our phones by dropping them on the floor or maybe in the water. samsung gal ex s-7 active for at&t claims to survive the rough and tumble of every day life so consumer reports checked out the claims of the $800 phone. >> the galaxy 7-s active promises to survive drops and dunks but even the biggest klutz. is that true? consumer reports brought the phone into the labs to find out. engineers dropped the phone from five feet on to a flat surface. according to the phone specs. >> the phone did well after dropping on concrete. we really didn't see any damage. >> samsung claims it is water-resistant up to five feet of water for 30 minutes. so consumer reports submerged a different s-7 active in this tank to simulate five feet of water. this time the results weren't good. >> the first s-7 active we dunked failed test. it was obvious. the screen malfunctioned. >> a second active was dunked in the tank and also failed. water was visible in the front and rear camera lense on both phones and there was water in the sim card slot on the second. after several days, the phone still wasn't working properly. consumer reports contacted samsung which said the galaxy is one of the most rugged to date and the company went on to say there may be an off chance that a defective device is not as water-tight as it should be. other galaxy phones, the s-7 and the edge make the same water resistant claims and both passed the consumer reports dunk test and at the top of the smart ratings. >> samsung is investing the issue with the s-7 active and they are still offering the earlier versions of the active phone. the galaxy s-6 active. the older phone passed consumer reports dunk test last year and is still among the recommended phones. a fishing expedition today in northern california will determine the health of the delta eco-system. state fish and wildlife cruised the delta. over the years a fish population has declined as water pumping and drought impact the habitat. >> last year was the first year we had a zero index which doesn't mean that there aren't any fish. it was just that weren't enough fish for it to register the way we measure it. >> delta played a major role in the california water war between farmers and environmentalists. since it was listed as a threatened species. the government regularly cuts water exports from the delta to protect the smelt. saint anthony's dining served its 42 millionth mill. staff and volunteers celebrated the milestone with those they serve. they serve 4200 hot meals every day adding up to a million a year. the recipient of today's meal is retired and said it is tough to make it on a fixed income. >> it means a lot to me. i've been coming here the past eight months and it means a lot to be able to be fed and know that i'm going to have a meal -- at least one a day. >> staff there say they are seeing more women and seniors coming in for a meal and some -- and groups of people. other diners say the meals are much-needed and much-appreciated when
