bay bridge toll plaza. we are off to a fairly friday light start. next traffic update coming up. we are tracking breaking news in the east bay. crews are still working to rescue at least one person trapped in an overturned car in the oakland hills, and abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is on scene for us there. amy. >> reporter: look behind me at this very active scene here on redwood drive, a huge team of firefighters working very hard to get this victim out of the car. they are definitely having a tough time getting to the victim. they have been at it for over an hour. a witness tells us there were four people in the car, that it was coming around a curve on a downhill and crashed in oakland hills. the car crashed through a fence, hit a tree and then caught on fire. one man was able to get out on his own, but the other three people were trapped and firefighters had to get them out, and it has been challenging work. partly because the tree they hit is now basically part of the car. it's now keeping firefighters from getting to the victims inside that very crumbled up car. it sounds like every one survived. the witness tells us he heard lots of screaming and cries for help from the two men and the two women inside this car, and of course their condition needs to be assessed but the priority has been trying to get them rescued. three people out, one still trapped. reporting live in oakland, abc7. >> terrible. we are hoping for the best for that person. on to the latest on the university of california, first the secret fund and now challenging answers on a survey. >> suddenly the changed. >> good morning, reggie and natasha. the state auditor called this intentional interference. apparently according to the media partner, the santa cruz sentin sentinel, blumenthal a audited e response. the reports for the campuses changed survey responses at the request of the president to put napolitano in a more positive light. and it was erblgly very poorly and inefficiently run, and the resized version ae li the negative comments and we are reaching out to santa cruz and the office of the president for a response. and an employee filed a formal complaint with department's fair housing. the man says he was approached by female coworkers about harassment by a male supervisor. he raised the concerns with the hr department but said he was fired soon after fifth. and an oil residue drifting from the refinery is, as you can see, coating vehicles. we understand valero is offering free car wash vouchers and some are reporting that they are sick. >> i had one employee throw up, and i had sent 30 to the emergency room, and we didn't get any notice about anything going on. >> benicia mayor says she is disappointed with the communication and cooperation between the refinery and the city. the refinery is off-line until next month and the oil prices information service tweeted out that gas prices are continuing to climb today with reports the refinery's restart has been pushed back to june. and susan lamb is still deciding to recommend arming campus police. and instead members provided officers with anti-bias training. the school's board up in the low to mid-50s to the san ramon valley, and you can see antioch at pittsburg. temperatures to mid and upper 50s to san jose at 57. novato is the cool spot, 46. there's a look at the marine layer clouds and you can see it just off the coast. 90s through the central valley, and 84 in l.a. and 94 in palm springs, and 65 degrees today in tahoe. nothing but sunshine. 70 tomorrow and then there's a flood warning for sunday of the rapid snow-melt that is going to happen around tahoe, so stay away from the streams. they will be extremely cold and could cause be running very rapidly. temperatures will peak tomorrow and into sunday. a few more details on state route 85 before you get to 237, and we have got the two left lanes blocked at this point, so one vehicle is sort of jammed up on top of this center divide and then we are hearing that we have another vehicle about 100 yards in front of that, so not sure if they were involved or if they are stopping to see if that person is okay. they have dispatched an ambulance to the scene, so no delays even though we have two lanes down but definitely keeping a close eye on that one. and southbound 101 santa rosa to san francisco, yesterday, they tumbled at least 15 feet on the metal base at the bottom of the ride after one of the baskets flipped upside down. a 59-year-old woman was flown to a trauma center, and one of the other victims is a 6-year-old boy. all of the victims will survive doctors say. two men that admitted to attacking a man in richmond are going to prison and the victim in the hate crime says he still considers the attackers his brothers despite what happened to him. the two men were sentenced to three years in prison yesterday and they admitted to attacking this man last september. police say leblanc and little knocked off his turban and cut his hair and doctors had to amputate his pinky. >> it's tender to touch, so typing or anything like that, it's painful. >> i had never seen mr. little or mr. leblanc so any remorse. >> it may take the rest of his life to heal from this attack. 5:16 now. there are buildings in the bay area that pose a high earthquake risk. other bay area courts at risk through the napa county historical courthouse and alameda county superior court, and the courthouse in oakland and the san francisco hall of justice. a consultant will prepare a list of up to 25 buildings that are the best candidate for retrofitting funding. one lawmaker says there are changes under way to fix this, an estimate 130 bills on housing have been introduced in the last few months. >> we have completely failed to invest in affordable housing and cut funding massively, close to $2 billion a year that we used to spend before the great recession that we are no longer spending. >> gathering along the coast and they will keep the coast in the 60s this weekend while the rest of us are in the 80s and 90s through at least monday. the heat will break everywhere tuesday and temperatures drop on wednesday and by thursday we are back to average. about six days of warmer than average temperatures, alexis. a few issues to get to on the roads here this morning, and the first one heading back to northbound 85, and we have the solo vehicle crash where somebody went into the center divide and sounds like they are lodged on top of the barrier, and the two left lanes are down and a lot of debris, so much so they are bringing in a street sweeper. not a huge issue at this point with delays. and alvarado boulevard, a crash on the off-ramp, and still working to confirm that flipped and caught fire. they are all being treated for their injuries after wrecking on redwood road. number two, a kitchen worker has life threatening injuries after being burned after googles conference. it happened in mountain view, six people were hurt and three hospitalized. number three the driver that plowed into nearly two dozen pedestrians scheduled to be arraigned today in times square. the mayor de blasio says there is no indication this was terrorism. president trump getting ready for his first foreign trip, an eight-day visit to the middle east and europe. number five, coast today but they will come back this weekend and that will help aid the huge spread. sutro tower looks comfortable out there right now. and 62 to 80 as we get towards noon on your 12-hour day planner. and then 56 at the coast, and still about 80 inland by 7:00, but we should be into the 70s by 8:00 if you are heading out. speaking of heading out, how about that morning commute, alexis. we have the trouble spot in the south bay and has been here for about 45 minutes. a solo vehicle crash, somebody hit the center divide and are sitting on top of the barrier as well. we have the two left lanes down and just starting to see a bit of a backup as you approach 237. a lot of debris involved in this, so much they are requiring caltrans to bring a street sweeper out, and it's a minor delay but i am keeping an eye on that as we get further into the commute. we will talk about the heavier traffic in the east bay coming up. that breaking news in oakland where people were trapped in an overturned car, and we just learned they rescued the last person they have been trying to get out, and they worked for two hours. reporter amy hollyfield is live on scene for us. what is the latest there? >> reporter: the man was just taken to the hospital and it looks like he's in very critical condition. it seems like they are concerned he may not make it. officers at the scene telling me they just called their fatal investigative team. the team is on their way here to look into the crash just in case it does turn into a fatal crash. this happened at 3:25 this morning on redwood road in oakland. there were two men and two women in the car, and an officer at the scene tells me they appeared to be young on the younger side and doesn't know their exact ages and there was a security guard in the area and he saw the car before the crash and he heard loud music coming from the car and saw the car do a u-turn and the driving and behavior just caught his eye. >> i already knew something was going happen because i drive this street up and down a few times a night and a fufew secons later, i here the impact and i see the flames, and i helped one male get out and the others were trapped and there was nothing more we could do. >> reporter: he said the car was on fire and now two hours later firefighters have pulled them all out of the car. it took so long, they say, because the car hit a tree, and that tree fell into the car and it was already a mangled car because it hit a fence and rolled and then hit a tree and so it was difficult for them to get to the victims and then it sounds like the engine had been pushed up on to the driver, so that's why it was so difficult and took them such a long time. we will keep you posted on the situation out here, when this road whippiill be reopening, an will keep you updated on how the victims are doing. reporting live, abc7 news. and then life threatening injuries after being burned in a fire during google's development conference. the photo was tweeted out around 4:00 p.m. the kitchen sprinkles did manage to get the fire out by the time they got there. the cafe was closed but a few dozen were nearby, and one person with a life threatening injury. >> and it was a flash fire. >> the first they know i noticed was this guy stumbling out and one guy got badly injured and so the first thing was get him out and get everybody away. >> google says the injured worked for vendors. no google employees were hurt in this. 7,000 people were at shoreline at the time. a huge relief for hundreds of families in palo alto who thought they would have to leave their homes. the county just made a deal to save their affordable housing. the authority announced an agreement yesterday to buy the buena vista mobile home pock for more than $43 million. 4,300 people live in the city's neighborhood, and it's a rare affordable option in silicon valley. the board will officially vote on the deal on tuesday. now a live desk update. >> tragedy hitting the san antonio fire department this morning. a firefighter was killed overnight following a massive blaze at a shopping center there. the sixth-year veteran of the force died after getting trapped in a collapsed building. the fire chief said fellow firefighters worked tirelessly to save this man's life. can you see in the video just how big those flames were, the massive response there, and the fire started in a computer repair store. his name is scott dean and he is the first san antonio firefighter killed in the line of duty in 20 years. a huge loss. back to you. family and friends of a missing can cord moncord man is for your help. he made a stop at a duplex and then on monday credit card charges show him buying gas at the concord arco station and withdrawing $60 from a credit union in concord, and the last ping off his cell phone was tuesday. and then the company has until noon to reach a tentative agreement on the contract. union members are demanding improved wages and job security and also resisting increases in health insurance co-pays. workers are planning to picket outside stores in 36 states including california. at&t said it's prepared to serve its customers in case of a strike. and then anti-war activist cindy sheehan will lead the march and that group has taken over the cal exit movement. it's planning to refile the petition to establish california has an independent nation through legal and constitutional means. they also hope to raise awareness in communities around the state about why succession makes sense for californians. and then searching for five men that attacked another man at delores park. police say a man was stabbed and hit with a golf club. he is now out of the hospital. police are encouraging others to report crimes. >> it's going to continue to get nicer out there and more people will be frequenting these areas as they should be, and they should not feel unsafe but feel like they can call the police anytime for any reason. >> this happened on wednesday evening, and police say they do not believe the attack was random. if you live in san francisco you may soon be paying more for garbage pick up. the public works department wants to raise rates about 5 bucks a month for the average single family home. they say they need the increase because of the new five-year labor contract, and it's citing landfill fees, and critics say the increase would hurt low income households and it's unfair to people that don't generate as much garbage. residents have until may 30th to weigh in on the proposed hike. and then kevin durant and his teammates boarded a plane at oakland international yesterday afternoon, and the head coach is also attending the trip. he has not coached the team since game two of the first round series because of complications from a prior back surgery. >> we want him healthy, and when he was not with the team you could still feel his presence and we go 52 in fremont and oakland, and san jose, 57. same thing at can cooncord. 68 at half moon bay. low to mid-80s around the bay. mid-80s to near 90 as the heat arrives. you can see it spreading from the east bay valleys to the south bay, at least the 90s tomorrow, and then they hang around for sunday, but notice the coast never gets too hot nor does san francisco because we are going to have a few clouds and a localized sea breeze there. i will show you when the heat is going to break for all of us coming up. good news and bad news if you are on the bay bridge commute, and the metering lights happened already and that's starting to fill in the maze, and the good news once you make it past the toll booth, we had tire tread that was removed so for a brief time there were a couple lanes down and once you make it past the metering lights things are looking better. no improvements in the south bay, just before 237, still trying to clean up the solo car crash, and caltrans is saying they will be another hour before they can get out there to clean up all the debris. we have a slight backup forming. and also hearing the southbound 880 alvarado boulevard on-ramp is the only thing blocked at this point and we have backup on the main line, too, and we are still working to confirm that one. and we will look at drive times coming op the 5:50. and then video appears to show square this morning after a driver mowed down a dozen people on the sidewalk. the driver was identified as richard rojas and he plowed into the crowd. and the 18-year-old from michigan was killed. 22 others are hurt. nine of those people are still hospitalized this morning. the suspect was tackled to the ground before taken away by police, and he was screaming about the end of days. >> at that point, the traffic cop said get him, get him. i ran toward him and i tackled him down and at this point, the officer assisted me. >> the suspect faces a murder charge and 20 counts of attempted this morning and that will change over the weekend. the coast will stay cool and the rest of us hot. cooling begins next week. here's the reason why. high pressure. look at that, hardly any wind this morning. and we look at fairfield to see if the sea breeze is cruising through there, but calm conditions right now. downtown san francisco, 74 degrees. and balboa park, 68. daly city about 66 and mission district about 72. not as comfortable along the east bay but not too bad. 81 in oakland. fremont, 85. we will head to the peninsula. notice the temperatures keep getting warmer depending on where we go? last sunny day at the coast will mean 68 at half moon bay. and palo alto about 85. down in the south bay, hitting low to mid-80s. and heading to santa cruz, sunshine and 80. water temperature in the low 50s. 87 today in santa rosa and sonoma and san rafael and the hottest temperatures are east bay valleys, near 90 in antioch, fairfield, livermore, pittsburgh, and 88 in pleasanton, san ramon and walnut creek. we will be in the 50s tonight, still comfortable. hottest again on saturday and sunday. monday's temperatures a lot like today and then the heat breaks inland, and then seasonal levels by thursday. i want to take you live to sky 7 in the fremont area and they have been able to confirm what we have been trying to figure out this morning. let's take it out full so you can get a look at this. southbound 880 from alvarado. looks like we just have the onramp blocked now, and the sky 7 zooming back to check it out, and just the on-ramp is impacted, and it's all due to an early morning crash and an investigation as well. we have heavy traffic on the main line as we pan back on 880 as you travel through the union city area and down into fremont as well. we are trying to get to the bottom of this backup. it could be just typical delays starting to fill in here but it's heavier than average. so we will work with them and just confirm everything it appears to be. westbound 580 tracy to dublin in the yellow, and dublin to mission boulevard about 16, and 101 to cupertino looks good at 16 minutes. keeping my eye on orleans right now as the fourth and final
