Investigators say they responded to the call just after midnight. A woman he had been dating had visible injuries. Bird was off duty at the time. He has now been placed on paid leave. The entire bay area got quite a soaking yesterday, and that caused Power Outages and downed trees. Our reporter has the details. One of the biggest impacts this storm left was on this 200foot tree that came down across both lanes of highway 13 in oakland. Patrol officers found the tree blocking all four laels of the highway and a car trapped. The driver was still trapped in his vehicle. They go to extract the driver out of the vehicle, break branches out, get the driver out, and the driver was uninjured. The officer said the driver of the camaro spotted the tree follow and didnt know if he should have sped past it or slammed on the brakes. He decided to stop and got caught under the tree. Southbound lanes were closed for about three hours. Rainsoaked tree roots were a problem across the bay area. Crews dot another one that fell on the 880 freeway in heyward. On the great highway in sfran, drivers were squeezed down to one lane because of flooding. The city downpours did cause a few other weather related issues bud it didnt dampen the spirits of several others who dressed up as kris kringle. The annual santa con event had a good turnout. Umbrellas became a popular accessory to the santa suit. And another fallen tree kept pg e crews busy. Ten homes and businesses lost power because a tree landed on top of power lines very early yesterdaymorning. Drivers also encountered flooding when a creek overflowed near santa rosa. In the sierra, search and rescue crews will be back out this morning looking for a skier who got caught in an avalanche. It happened on a closed ski run in tahotahoe, which is on the na side. Crews started searching the back country for the missing 60yearold man yesterday afternoon. But had to pull back because of weather conditions. The skier was with another man who managed to get out of the avalanche. The skiers ociously made a decision they wanted to make a run there, and obviously, it did not work out for the best. And our function right now is to do everything we can to try to find this individual. Officials say the skiers did not have a shovel or other Safety Equipment necessary for back country skiing. Flooding may occur throughout parts of the bay area this week, thanks to this years arrival of king tides. We can expect the extreme high tides starting today. The highest will take place tuesday and wednesday when they rise to more than seven feet throughout the area. They occur every year when the earth is closest to the sun and the moons orbit is closest to the earth. So.
