is spoke look for sunshine this afternoon. mild for november. we will talk about a sunnier afternoon coming up. >> thank you, lisa. united airlines pilot being praised for stepping in and after a fight about politics. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has details >> there is not usually you the announcement you hear, as people we have to respect other people's decisions and to get along on the flight. >> the man who shot the describedio told me by phone the announcement came after an argument between two passengers. >> he said at least i get to keep my guns and she told him how could you say that to a brown person? because she's african-american. >> they were arguing about the election. the united airlines spokesman said flight attendants separated the two passengers before the pilot's announcement. this is the latest since tuesday. in pittsburgh neighbors snapped a picture of this banner. it includes the "n" word. the pittsburgh city said it violates the city's sign policy and to remove it. >> i think it's natural to see eruptions. but the real question is the degree to which it will be sustained. their leaders take a very important roll. he praised the pilot for handling the incident on the plane. >> if there is a problem with this, a rant or rave, there is another flight tomorrow. don't be on this one. i hope that's clear. [applause] >> that flight continued without incident. abc7 news. >> we have video on this. it shows a person using hateful language toward a bart conversation who had been having a conversation in syrian on her cell phone. people who know the woman contacted the news. they say the woman is living with mental illness and they are concerned about her safety. >> and bart said we want to make sure threats to providers for employees will not be tolerated. be decent to each other. >> in san francisco a small but vocal group of protesters utah hit the streets last night. [chanting.] abc7 was was along as about 100 people took over the busy street with a police ses escort. monaco showed the group marching down market street. it was peaceful. aaron green shared this video in santa cruz last night. u. c. santa cruz students marched shouting "not my president." in oakland last night's protests were made peaceful. these videos show the heavy police presence. officers say there were no arrests. >> after spending days dealing with her devastating degrees, hillary clinton made her first public appearance last night and she credited her staffers who tried to get her elected. >> reporter: she thanked each person and handed them one of one hundred roses that were sent to her home today. clinton also hosted a conference call with volunteers, staffers and donors to ask them to keep fighting for what they believe in. >> this is a tough time for our country. i think we've seen how people have been reacting to the events of this election. and i know that we've got to be reaching out to each other to keep it clear in own minds that what we did was so important. >> just one day after meeting with president obama, donald trump confirmed to "60 minutes" he might agree with the president'sy not to tamper with some provisions of obamacare. >> are you going to make sure people with preconditions are covered? >> yes, because it happens to be one of the strongest assets and also people living with their parents an extended period of time. very much try to keep that. >> president elect trump told them if it's not amended, then it will be repealed and replaced. >> be sure to download the news app on president elect trump's transition to the white house and get news as it appears. >> a suicide bomb in afghanistan has killed four people at a u.s. air force base. it happened about 40 miles north of could be he will. the military officials have not said what nationality the deceased are, but they are all foreign. >> an officer said a gunman shot a man in his 20s near american canyon road. the victim crashed his vehicle but is expected to survive. eastbound lanes. i-80 was closed to the commute but the gunman is still on the lose >> a drunk driver who ran a red light and killed a pedestrian in san jose and smashed into an abc newsman talked with abc7 news from jail. the 61-year-old man died as he left city hall thursday night. leslie brinkley has the story. >> in an instant, doug andreen was killed crossing the street to get pizza. this vehicle ran the red light, hitting cars and pushing the body under the abc7 news van parked on the corner. the photographer and reporter were both treated at the hospital and released. grief counselors will be on hand on monday here at san jose city hall where doug worked for ten years as an accountant in the public works department. he lived nearby in this apartment complex with his beloved cat tinkerbell. they said he spent a lot of time at the san jose animal shelter, where they will direct donations to help cats there. they talked about the accident today. >> i'm sorry about it. i mean, i'm sorry. i drank a couple beers and i wasn't paying attention. >> he said he has two previous dui arrests. >> if i could take everything back, i should have never -- i should have never drank. >> and is andreen lost everything. in san jose, i'm leslie brinkley, abc7 news. >> happening now, if you are driving in san francisco, you probably want to avoid van ness avenue because a major construction project is underway to make the street safer but now it's just causing delays. katie explains. >> what does a uber driver wish for? >> if we could get wider street and less cars. >> instead the transportation agency will be reducing van ness avenue from three lanes in both directions to two starting monday. eventually center lanes will be designated "bus only." >> the buses especially get in the way, especially if they have their tail hanging in, don't pull all the way in. that's problematic to get around. >> renderings show what the project will look like when completed. it's similar to the muni trains on third street. the results should mean a time savings of about 15 minutes. this weekend left turns on van ness will be removed at all but three intersections. >> i just feel it will causeway too much traffic. people already drive crazy in the city. i feel like it would be total chaos. >> one of the leadings causes of collisions throughout the city is left turns. by eliminating some of the left turns along the corridor, we are making the city safer as well. >> sue we're lines will be replaced while the road is being torn up. >> it's old and time to upgrade them. this project allows us to fix that. >> it will take around three years to complete this project. in san francisco, abc7 news. >> one more reason to take public transportation, i guess. >> yeah. >> it's humid outside. >> it is because it's warm. we have a cold front to the north. dewpoints are up. but this afternoon we will get back into the sunshine. a live look outside from our roof camera. it's 60 degrees in san francisco. how about 63 in oakland with more 60s from san mateo and mountain view? >> it's a mind-numbing call to get to the bay bridge toll plaza in the morning. bumper to bumper, people we've in and out within traffic. >> it's getting worst. lately the fast track lane is backed up more than the cash lane. >> i got in five seven to give us a view from above. >> all the lanes take fast track. some still accept cash too and sometimes the cash lanes seem shorter. which is really faster? we did a comparison and rigged two abc7 cars with cameras and put cameras on the roofs so we could track them. they both left at the same time. the blue 7 is going through the cash lanes, and we've got the red 7 going through the fast track lanes. >> minutes in, so far looks like cash is moving a little bit faster. >> what's keeping the red 7, the fast track carb hyped? it had to cross over the cash lanes to get over to the fast track lanes in the center. >> now he's getting over. >> it doesn't last long for the lead. >> looks like we have the fast track car, the red 7 catching up and passing the blue, the cash car. >> nearly 35 minutes into our commute, traffic really slows down and it's the drivers in the cash lane creating the problem. >> we see car after car. >> cash driver is also feeling the pinch. >> he's getting cut off in the cash lanes because they are all trying to get over into the fast track so it's affecting the cash driver too. >> by the time our challenge is over, the fast track lane have just about five minutes faster than the cash lane. a time savings, but maybe not as much as you think. >> that's really consistent with what we've found over the years. >> john goodwin is with the transportation commission. >> evidently there's some folks who seem to believe that their time isore valuable than others. >> he said those drivers who cut over at the last minute play a big part in slowing down traffic. >> there's no real advantage game by the folks, as we call them, the dive bombers. >> they said they have tried to prevent that by installing flection able pylons, but the drivers drive them over. they are looking a way to eliminate the cash option from the bridge to speed things up. the golden gate bridge stopped taking cash in 2013 and since then the flow has improved. there's no set date when the golden might take cash. >> there are a number of things we need to do because the traffic volumes are so much greater on the bay bridge? >> the meantime drivers are looking for relieve and leaving earlier won't help them. they said the business just time on the bay bridge is between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. a 70% increase since 2010. >> abc7 news. >> don't forget, alexis has your commute covered every morning starting at 4:30 a.m.. the person in charge of keeping bart safe is retiring. our media department received a news release that december 31st will be his last day. he joined the department after a police officer shot and killed mr. grant. >>. hillary clinton may have just lost the presidential election but the clintons are not done with politics. her daughter chelsea is being groomed to run for congress. she would run for the seat representing the area of chappaqua new york, where former president bill clinton and hillary clinton live. >> the food drive is off to a strong start at second harvest food bank. spencer christian presented a $15,000 check on behalf of our parent company disney. it will help feed 250,000 people a month. abc7 partners with all seven. our food banks for 25 years. you can text word "feed" to the number 800772 to make that ten dollars donation to help those in need this holiday season. now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning, to you. waking up to some cloud cover. fog not that much of a problem. but we are looking at a little bit of green on live doppler 7 and that does represent a little bit of shower activity. it's been confined to the far north bay. sonoma county maybe .05. it continues to wash on out. you see a few returns from lake port to cloverdale and really beyond that. even into marin county. maybe some drizzle. otherwise it's a cloudy start. here's a look at sfo. so far no problems here but you will notice the tropics 50 degrees in gilroy. most of you are up in the upper 50s. san jose, 60 mountain view and oakland 63 degrees. downtown here you will notice it looks pretty quiet but numbers too from out upper 50s to lower 60s. heading outside it feels a little milder but even muggy. when we measure how the atmosphere, the air feels to your skin, we do that in the dewpoint. when you look at the dewpoint in the 50s works i we have right now, it feels muggy. anything more than that feels like we would be in hawaii in the 60-degree range. but you can see we are in the muggy range. getting into the sunshine this afternoon. it should feel pretty good out there. mostly cloudy this morning. partly cloudy today with more sun into next week with. and just a few opportunities of maybe some light rain. so going through the next several hours, notice all the cloud cover. mainly in the north bay. then as we head toward the afternoon, it thins out. it should be a pretty nice afternoon. so highs today anywhere from two to five degrees above average. look at all the low 70s on the map as you head inland. that represents the yellow con tour. and the greens mainly in the 60s. so really a pretty nice afternoon. above average for most of you: as we look at tomorrow, the second half of your weekend, more sun. slightly warmer temperatures, taking you into monday very little change. more upper 60s from richmond to oakland, and some low 70s inland. the next chance of rain will get into tuesday night into wednesday. and this continues to look very, very unimpressive. so looks right now like there wasn't be much out of this system. rather dry. but with a clear sky on the positive note tomorrow night we get to look at the super moon, which is the closest to the earth since 1948. that makes it 7% larger than the average full moon. so it's brighter than the average moon and you will definitely notice it out there. as we check out your accuweather seven-day forecast. we have the morning clouds today and partly cloudy this afternoon. more sunshine. slightly warmer the few days ahead. by tuesday a chance of showers mainly in the northbound bay. could wake up to a lingering sprinkle on wednesday. we are getting close tory thanksgiving, but november somewhat of a disappointment in terms of our rainfall. >> with he got spoiled with all that rain in october. >> it was a good start but it's still way early. >> lisa, thank you so much. still ahead, just released, hot holiday gifts that are already sold sure, you could buy this. but why miss out on this? morning, everybody. we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning. >> good morning, cornell. we have a lot of cloud cover. not so much in the way of fog but if you check out live doppler 7 now there's a little bit of green in the north bay. this is a week front that's spread a few showers from sonoma county out toward the coast. novato, highway 101 to san after fell. 57 novato. 60 in mountain view. that's up from yesterday. the cloud front, the higher dewpoints allowing for the muggier start. by this afternoon we break into more sunshine with 60s to near 70. that's above average. the sun sets at 5:00. it will be a dry and sunny start to the week. we will talk about the possibility of rain as we get through the middle of the week in just a few minutes. cornell. >> thank you, lisa. paris is the site of last year's deadly isis attacks. this will be the first concert in in in -- in the theater people were killed there. sting said the concert will be a way to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the november 13th attacks. and in florida another response to a drift attack. the come-out-with-pride festival will be held in orlando where a gunman killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in june. a benefit will be held for the victims of the attack at the post nightclub. earlier the city of orlando bought pulse. they plan to turn it into a memorial to honor the memories of the victims the election has some people speaking out with their wallets, especially for those unhappy with the outcome. johnathan bloom explains what they are doing about it. >> volunteers are clearing clearing out the clinton's campaigns local headquarters. >> i'm very sad, understandably. >> angry and jumping to what can we do next so i started donating to planned parenthood and i will plan to volunteer in schools in san francisco. >> it's a sentimentibility echoed by these volunteers. >> the fran children's art center isn't the only place they are hoping to lend a hand. >> i would volunteer for like planned parenthood because i think that's such an important organization. >> planned parenthood has seen an outpouring of support. >> he donate to planned errant hood. >> what makes you want to do that. >> it's the least i can do to support women's health, which is under attack. >> other charities are asking for donations in the wake of the election but one group barely needed to ask. >> tuesday night i couldn't sleep. wednesday morning i was laying in bed and couldn't stand it any longer. i woke up, went online and made a donation to the aclu. >> the american civil liberties union said they received almost $1 million in donation, the single biggest fundraising day in their history. they crashed the website. why them? >> because they protect our constitution. that's their anyone goal and i feel that's what is in most in peril with our president elect. >> they are also expressing themselves with symbols. and there are other symbols that are not so subtle. >> this dissent patriotic t-shirt was among the best selling item after the election. so was this pocket constitution. they said they sold news. new this morning, president obama is reminding us that our military members and veterans serve as an example of what our nation tries to be every day. in his weekly radio address, the president recognized the service and sacrifice of our nation's military and called it the single most diverse institution in the country. our veterans don't always go around telling stories of their heroism, so it is up to us to ask, to listen, to tell those stories for them, and to live in our own lives the values for which they were prepared to give theirs. >> president obama added we must acknowledge that we can never serve our military and veterans quite the same way they serve us. happening today, a special dedication in antioch. the city will officially unavailable a memorial to the 21 pleasanton south bay started honoring veterans early yesterday morning in milpitas. in san jose veteran's day became an early thanksgiving for more than 500 veterans a bc7 news reporter introduces us to a grateful vet. >> reporter: nothing for symbolic than seeing him hold keys to a unit at this apartment building. he will move in next week. >> this is just the beginning because now the real journey begins. staying focused, going to school, continue working. >> he's the 510th homeless vet in santa clara county to get housing, one year after san jose and the county launched a program called all the way home. some. landlords rent to go vets are vets themselves. >> i'm doing this because i am my brother's keeper and i'm a member of the armed services. and i have been blessed. so why not share that blessing? >> this is the studio apartment he rent today a vet. >> while the number 510 is an impressive figure, there are many more to go. the mayor sam ricardo believes housing vets will lead to a wider program. while 510 out of over 700 have been placed, the challenge isn't over. >> every month more are being push out into the streets because of high housing costs. this is an effort we will have to continue to pursue. >> even the president or the board of supervisors have rented out a room to a vet. >> you went to a veteran you get rent. that room would be sitting empty. there are many people with four or five bedroom houses that could easily rent a room to a had veteran. >> in san jose, david loui, abc7 news. >> struggles veterans face will be explored this weekend at the fifth annual san francisco veterans film festival. the movies are made by veterans and deal with combat, posttraumatic stress and reuniting with family. the festival is free. it runs today and tomorrow at the san francisco main library. some veterans are turning to medical marijuana for relief from pain of war but they are not getting high. abc7 news heard told you about c the vd, a nonpsychedelic compound in marijuana offered to children suffering from seizures. it's now available in creams and capsules and they are using it to treat physical pain to ptsd. many are doing so with the help from about thanksgiving. that's the message from the san francisco marin food bank which got a donation of 640 turkeys from foster farms yesterday. the food bank needs more than 1400 turkeys to meet their goal of 2,000 turkeys for thanksgiving and also needs sash donationings and volunteers. halloween is long over but it's never too late for a street. take a look of the clause on that. who doesn't like pumpkin pie even without pie. they were at the oakland zoo yesterday as the bears and elephants enjoyed pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. it's one gull many for the elephants. some prefer peanuts gutter, though. >> they might no for the easier first. there's nothing really left of after we go back into the yard to clean up. >> the prethanksgiving feast is an annual treat for the critters and for zoo--goers, as well. looks fun the san francisco zoo, it was an early white christmas for north america's oldest polar bear. tendons of snow. tendons was delivered to the zoo yesterday and it's all for uloo, the resident polar bear. she's 35 years young and has lived at san francisco zoo since 1985. look at that snow. awesome. do you see any snow in the forecast? >> unfortunately no. in is really allowing for the fog to be not an issue this morning. so that's some good news. but there is a little bit of precip by lake port and cloverdale, sonoma county picked up maybe .05 or a tenth inch of rain. to the south a few returns around marin county. more like mist and perhaps a light sprinkle. but this is washing out and we will see the clouds thin out. 50 degrees in san francisco, 52 with where we stand right now. an hour by hour throughout the day today you will notice that the cloud cover begins to thin out. 10, 11, 12:00 we are into a partly cloudy afternoon. as a result, temperatures are going to be above average. it should be about 64 this time of year. oakland, san francisco. about 65 in san jose. and about 66 up in santa rosa. so notice we are warmer for november standards. tomorrow 70s, getting closer to the bay. then into monday, very little change. looks like we're are on tap for a dry couple of days. next chance of rain tuesday night into wednesday. look what happens. it stays to the north and then, in fact, it lifts up towards 80 and we are left with not so much in the way of rain for tuesday, wednesday. but by sunday night, tomorrow night the end of the weekend, probably will be glad about the partly to mostly clear skies because we do have the super moon which is 7% larger than the average full moon. and this hasn't occurred since 1948. so it should be a beautiful sight out there. so with the details in the south bay, we are looking at all the low 70s for you. partly cloudy on the peninsula. look for a cloudy start. upper 60s throughout taxes: they say the city covered up problems on the building. we have the story you will see only on 7. >> i think somebody has to take a stand and hold the city responsible. pat and jerry dodson live on the 42nd lore of of the millennium tower. a luxury two-bedroom unit with killer views. last year they asked the city assessor to lower their property taxes because the high rise had unexpectedly sunk 16 inches and tilted 2 inches. it was the dodson's unit where we rolled the golf ball down the uneven floor toward the direction the building is leak. the dodson's paid $2.1 million for their condo three years ago. they told the assessor the value they believe now is around $400,000. >> some people put 0, some people put a dollar. if you are unable to sell something, it's hard to believe it has any value at the time. >> they are yet to hear from the assessor's office. currently two homeowner lawsuits are pend being against the developers. the dodd sons are now considering their own legal action against them. supervisor aaron peskin has held hearings which revealed that the building department new about the settling problems even before units were sold but gave developer the green light anyway. because of that the dodsons have decided to withhold paying their property tax toss the city. >> it's like being mugged. if two people mugged you. in this case it's the millennium partners and the city. i'm not sure the victim is supposed to pay the mugger. >> the dodsons say they are more than happy to pay their property taxes once the city takes responsibility and the tower
