Some pg e customers are in the dark because of the rain and wind. Abc7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian has more. Pg e crews are hard at work in delay city on beliveau avenue. In is just one of many spots throughout the bay area where the storm brought down powerlines. I saw wires swinging back and forth. When they hit the electric cables, thats when the sparks came out and thats when i called 911. Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses lost power. Not far away on 280 at an an ramp a flooded roadway cause this had car to stall. Others slowly inched by in a foot of standing water. Heavy rain and clogged drains are to blame for many flooded streets. The storm also made for dangerous driving conditions. But before the rain came the wind, and the damage it brought. In san mateo, this large tree fell on some cable lines at el camino and beliveau. And on treasure island, the annual music festival, which goes on rain or shine, lost a lotti of concertgoers once the storm came. This is it ridiculous. Its not fun. Look at this, we are drenched. Time to go. Festival organizers were forced to shut down access to the pier because of high wind. In fact medics rushed a woman to the hospital after an atm machine blew over and cut her leg. Many have been restored. Right now at least 1900 people in the south bay, 200 in the north bay, and 250 in San Francisco are power. There was a crash be on highway 101 in marin county yesterday. Two of the victims were taken to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. Investigators have not replaced any details on the suspect we are learning about the tense moments that led up to the shooting of a San Francisco Police Officer. Officer kevin downs was shot in the head friday night and survived. He remains inle condition this. Police say if the bullet had struck a centimeter in the wrong direction, officer downs could have died. Abc7 News Reporter Sergio Quintana has the story. Officer kevin downs and his partner responded to the Lakeshore Shopping Center after security guards report add man who was threatening customers. Witnesses say there was a foot chase, then gunfire. Two people, a cop and the other guy was running this direction, that way, and then all we heard was shots, four or five shots. Then we heard a scream like an officer down really loudly. Officer downs was shot. According to the interim police chief, the bullet entered and exited his head. He underwent surgery to remove fragments from his brain and he still has partial paralysis on the said of his body from the shot to the head. Hes a twoyear veteran from the police short. Police said he comes from a family dedicated to public service. His father is a retired San Francisco policeman. His family over the years has given so much to this city, to this country. Officer downs even helped launch a group called ranchin vets to help servicemen. Police chased him down and cornered him near edgewood. The end the man tried to hold off police next to playground, but after an exchange of gunfire he was injured and eventually taken into custody. Police have not released his name. In Southern California Police Arrested a man who drove a pickup truck off the bridge in san diego, killing four people in the park below. As we highlight the Flash Flood Watch, it begins really it began a couple hours ago and goes rate on through the evening hours. Rain rates have been about a halfinch an hour. We picked up a couple inches in the mountains and more rain is on the way. Its very light but still it is going to get enhanced throughout the morning hours. More showers are falling in the east and south bay. And the system today will bring breezy winds with less than a third inch for most areas. The Santa Cruz Mountains is an area we are concerned about. Theres a Flash Flood Watch. Live doppler 7 showing the showers over into the east bay right now. These are light around san ramon, 680 and back westward. But as we go further south, you notice we have enhancement here from gilroy, hollister and all the way down through big sur. This is a front that has not pushed on through the area yet. So as a result, the highlighted areas, a Flash Flood Watch and coastal flood watch throughout the day today. Right now its kind of muggy. We are in the 60s. We are looking at more rain for the entire bay area throughout the rest of the morning hours. Navy is investigating a possible missile attack on its ships patrolling off the coast of yemen in the middle east. Elizabeth herr has more about how it started and how it has since escalated. U. S. Defense Officials Say a group of u. S. Navy ships were in International Waters in the red sea when the uss mason detected possible inbound missiles and fired defensive missiles as a counter measure. No ships were hit and all American Warships in the area are safe. The u. S. Navy is now investigating. In the meantime, according to chief of naval operation, admiral john richardson, this may be the Second Attack on the uss mason and a possible third attack overall targeting u. S. Ships off the coast of yemen in the past week. The first attack prompted u. S. Retal retaliatory measures a few days ago when they fired tomahawk missiles into yemen. This destroyed three radar sites that the pentagon believes may have played a role in the firing. They said the missiles were fired from a region in yemen. The leaders there deny the charge. They were negotiating an end to yemens civil war. Abc news, new york. Newlyreleased video shows a Chicago Police officer getting attacked while trying to arrest a suspect. The officer says she did not shoot him because she feared a community backlash. A warning, this video may be disturbing. Other officers used their stun guns on the man. They eventually arrested him. The officer is in the hospital with head and neck injuries. A hotel clerk in michigan put his life in danger against someone who tried to rob him because he felt it was his duty. Surveillance video shows a woman wearing a mask walking into the hotel and demanding money. She has a gun, and when she set it down, the quickthinking clerk grabs it and jumps over the countser and tackles her. During the struggle, the gun went off. No one got hit. Former nfl player dennis byrd, whose career with the new york jets ended early because of a neck injury, was killed in a car accident. We are looking at more rainfall concentrated in the east bay, south bay and bait on the peninsula. Its been light but we are getting the rain where the fires were, down around the Santa Cruz Mountains. We are looking at flooding possibilities right through the day today, as an additional one to two inches could fall in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Locally now live doppler 7 picking up rain in Castro Valley and hayward. So a little bit of light rain toward 880, as well. As we go further north from san ramon, 680 just south of walnut creek. This is the area of concern. Just south of san jose where we continue to look at a few heavier cells around gilroy and hollister. This has been going on all night. The rain rates have been about a halfinch an hour. We are looking at additional rain as another piece of energy not only pushes into the area, bringing windy conditions, but it will push it north. We are looking at a little more rain for areas south of San Francisco. So a Flash Flood Watch until 11 00 tonight for this area here from the Santa Cruz Mountains, northern monterey county, and looking at maybe 1 to 4 inches of rain. They got a couple inches from the last system. So thats why we are looking at the concern. High elevation necessary the sierra. A little bit of snow but right now 44 and rain in blue canyon. We are looking at a Winter Weather advisory until tomorrow morning above 7,000 feet. 3 to 6 inches of snow possible over the passes. And winds could be gusting in excess of 50 miles an hour. So we are in the 60s for everybody here except half moon bay. A halfmile visibility. And 57 by the delta and santa rosa. You can notice the fog here in the north bay. Rain showers mainly south of the city. More showers for everyone this evening. And sunny and warmer throughout the rest of the work week. The Coastal Flood Advisory is for sonoma all the way down to monterey. You will notice the beech hazard with the high waves here. Some dangerous conditions. Look at the final line here. We go through 7 00, 8 00, notice that the enhancement is around davenport, san jose. Then we begin to see the showers lift to the north a little. And then they will concentrate down around the Santa Cruz Mountains and then one more piece of energy for the north bay. Its not windy now, but by 3 00, 4 00 with the second impulse we are looking at winds up to some 30 miles an hour. Picking it up tonight, you see the showers to the south.
