All four people on board walked away. You can see it flipped over on the runway. It happened around 8 45 last night at the reed hill view airport. Single edge cessna was landing when the landing gear hit the side of the runway. Only one passenger went to the hospital with a minor injury. The federal Aviation Administration is investigating how a skydiving demonstration killed a sky diver in madera yesterday. Thousands of people at the festival witnessed the tragedy. A reporter from our sister station in fresno reports on what went wrong. In a split second a family festival became the scene of an accident. Everyone was just pointing at the sky, and i looked to see someone fall in the parachute. Authorities say a 65yearold sky diver was taking part in an airshow and was trying to land at a madera airport. The victims chute was tangled. Attempts were made to disrupt the tangling of the chute. They proved to be unsuccessful. Hundreds of feet away the victims first chute landed among a row of trees. Witnesses say this is video of that first chute landing in trees far away from his body. Out of the corner of our eye we saw the lose parachute and it was flying all by itself like a deflated balloon, going down by itself. The sky diver himself fell next to alexs truck, who said he was in that railroad spot just minutes before the crash. Sounded like a car hit something and turned around and sure enough, it was the gentleman that had fallen between the cars.
