monticello dam has spread to 7,000 acres this morning. it is now 30% contained. at one point in forced mandatory evacuations. we have the report. >> reporter: this was a crucial weapon in the battle against the monticello fire. helicopter after helicopter reloaded their buckets to fight a blaze burning in a remote and rugged area. on the ground crews were miles per gallon up hotspots in the areas already charred by the wildfire. at one point saturday it appeared that the fire jumped the line and tripled in size. >> we do lose a little bit of our containment lines but now we are back up to 30%. >> smoke could be seen for miles away. check out the spot from traverse air force base. at one point the wildfire threatened 50 homes and forced residents to evacuate golden bear state friday night. saturday evening the homes were no longer in danger. folks staying at this resort campground were also evacuated, including this camper from napa. >> we saw the flow coming over the hills and coming over the top really fast. >> while most of the fire danger by the campground is gone, many returned to pick up their belongings and head home. >> all the power shut off. time to leave. >> the fun ever a 4th of july holiday weekend cut short. >> the fun kind. got spoiled, but mother nature took over one day and that's it. >> this fire now more difficult to control than the fire burning to the west in napa county. >> that's why we got out of here. we knew how the other napa fire went. >> residents and firefighters know the season ahead will be a rough one. >> this is just a sign, i believe, of what the season is going to bring. >> that was suzanne fawn reporting. firefighters getting the upper hand on another fire burning north of lake berryessa. it's now 40% contained. it started on tuesday. officials are still investigating the cause after brush fire that destroyed 8 homes in collinsville. it started around 1:30 friday. when crews arrived two houses were on fire and flames quickly spread to six other houses. the red cross is helping families who lost their home. firefighters estimate the damage at $2.5 million. >> as the fires heat up up, so do the fires in the east bay. there were two small brush fires along i-680. the fire commanders say they got several 911 calls about the fires. it's exactly the kind of awareness fire departments need from the public. >> we are in an extended drought and it's the hottest time of year. everything exceedingly dry. any slight spark can set off a fire. >> two acres were burned and no structures were damaged there. what was supposed to be a fun 4th of july left several bay area residents with devastating injuries, all because. illegal fireworks. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has details from san jose. >> just milliseconds after hearing that sound, she -- he hit the ground bleeding. he bought a mortor firework to entertain the neighborhood kids. >> that was long string and i barely sparked the lighter and it took off. >> both of his hands blew off instantly. >> his father said i thought he was dead. my son wouldn't get up. i said help me move him to the sofa. blood still stains the family sofa and driveway. or 'tis is a carpenter. his family has no idea what he will do once he leaves the hospital. an uncertain future also faces two men from sunnyvale. after what is described as another mortor type firework went off while they were holding it. the victim's friends did not want to be identified. >> when it went off off went his face and a chunk of his face. it's kind of gut wrenchching. >> the victims were rushed to stanford for surgery and both men rely on their hands to work. one is a tattoo artist and the other is in construction. and finally in santa rosa a man was found clutching his hand while lying on west third street. dispatchers called it an explosion injury caused by fireworks. all the victims could be chandler for usage explosive device. abc7 news. >> pg&e officials say celebratory gunfire shot up into the air and likely caused a power line to come down, killing a man and injuring his brother. 19-year-old man of oakland died after be electrocuted and his brother remains in critical conditions. there were dozens of' wrists in confiscated fireworks on the 4th of july. barrels were set up at fire stations for people to turn in their illegal fireworks, and as you see the barrel is pretty much full. investigators believe illegal fireworks started a fire friday night that destroyed power poles and three cars near an apartment building in santa cruz. firefighters had to evacuate homes until pg&e shut down the power and hours later the 20-year-old was arrested after he threw a large firework at who wassers trying to clear a call. he was one of 22 people arrested in santa cruz on friday night. >> this morning one person is recovering in the hospital after medical supplies helped fuel the fire in san jose. firefighters say it took about 50 minutes to control this fire on coyote roll-off highway 10 is 11. the entire house was burning when crews arrived. as the fire started something went wrong with the medical oxygen tank. >> we have an idea it might have been something mechanical malfunction within the house due to one of the residents being on home oxygen that accelerated the fire through the house. that's why it became owe big so quick. >> firefighters believe another eye please started the fire. two homes next door were evacuated during the blaze. officials are trying to determine what caused a water main break in novato yesterday afternoon flood ago street t happened off highway 101 and highway 37. several neighbors called 9-1-1 worried their homes would flood, as well. fortunately water did not get into any of the houses. authorities are investigating a shooting that injured one person at a bart station in the east bay. it happened around 1:30 last night -- 10:20 last night in the bus zone outside the hayward bus station that. person was taken to the hospital. no word on their condition. the hayward bart station was shut down for about 20 minutes while police investigated. no word on any suspects. police are look for a man they say robbed a bank in burlingame yesterday. it happened at 1:00 p.m. at the bank of america on chapin avenue. police say he handed the teller a note saying he had a gun and bomb and took off with the cash. he is described as a white man in his 40s, bald, about 5'6". caltran said construction work on northbound 280 in san francisco is on schedule this weekend. crews are replacing a bridge hinge between cesar chavez street. the next step is paving and painting stripes on the freeing. >> there's always the hope we can get it done earlier than expected. but obviously those things happen as the project goes on. we may know a little more later today and into the morning. >> the freeing is set to reopen by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. shut down starts at 101 split and continues to king street. another closer is planned for the labor day holiday weekend in september. a big change for drivers today in san francisco. free sunday parking resumes in most areas. city started charging at parking meters on sunday last year but the program has now been scrapped. however, you will still need to feed the meters operated by the port of san francisco at fischer minutes wharf and meters at during it clipped a seawall during a landing attempt just before 11:30 in the morning. 307 people were on board at the time. the incident sparked pilot training and emergency response to disasters. late last month the n safety transportation safety board released their finding. pilot error and complexity of flight control systems contributed to the crash. and malaysian officials said they will send an additional ship out to look for the missing flight. it will set sail next month. the boeing 777 vanished on march 8th. it had been scheduled to fly to beijing. last month australian investigators said they believe the jet was on autopilot over the ocean and kept flying until it ran out of fuel and plunged into the water. brian stow is suing the dodgers and former owner. he great white sharks are becoming more and more common at california's manhattan beach, frequently filled by paddleboarders. >> we have baby great whites of the world. >> the juvenile great whites are attacks and sightings on both coast. if it seems like we are seeing more of them, you are right. according to noaa, the great white shark population has increaseed by 42%. an alert for residents on the peninsula after a mountain lion was spotted in the highlands. someone saw it and found an animal carcass in the same area yesterday morning. one was also spotted on genes lane yesterday afternoon. sightings come after someone spotted one last year near fernwood street n that incident the mountain lion attacked and killed a deer. a san jose woman thought her dog would be safe at a boarding kennel over the weekend but the boxer managed to escape. this is java. friday night he ran away from a pet villa in santa clara. employees say the dog jumped over four fences at the outdoor facility. simulcast at at&t park. the performance at the opera house was screened live on the 100-foot white scoreboard. state of the art technology was used to broadcast the music from the san francisco opera and chorus to the ballpark. happening today, the san francisco simon any will perform at the 77 annual stern grove festival. they will perform a selection of works from american composers. hundreds of moves on in and compress that is marine layer. here's a look from the roof camera. we can see that and fog is just patchy with where we have it across the bay. san francisco at 53 degrees. we had low 80s on the peninsula. today a few degrees of warming for you. it is cool half moon bay. 52. 53 gilroy. another vantage point. there it is. there is the patchy marine layer from the tower camera. 50 santa rosa. napa dense fog. 48 novato and checking in in livermore right now at 59 degrees. look at our visibility in miles. just a quarter of a mile santa rosa and novato. you can see it trying to enter the bay here and it's all the way down the central coast around watsonville and salinas this morning. we look for most of it to evaporate. it will hug the shoreline once again but notice the wind speeds. they have backed off off by the delta owe the on shore floor will be slackening off a bit and that's one of the reasons why we will warm up so much in the inland valleys. we will have the sea breeze at the coast. up to 20 miles an hour. it will keep san francisco pretty temperate. oakland still in the 70s and from our emeryville camera, foggy conditions near the coast. it will be a warmer day today pretty much for everyone. the coast should warm up a few degrees. inland as much as five to eight degrees of warming today. tomorrow we will keep it hot. high clouds entering the picture tomorrow. subtropical moisture, that will allow for the skies not to be totally sunny so that may help in allowing for a stickier feel to the atmosphere. the heat continues today and tomorrow as the four corners high begins to take over much of the west coast. and that allows for these temperatures to really come up here. 96 morgan hill. 87 in san jose as well as cupertino closer to the water. 84 mountain view, 83 palo alto, 78 san mateo a nice day and still low to mid-60s at the coast. upper 60s to near 700 san francisco. up in the north bay notice the reds. the con tours here reflecting the warmest numbers. 99 clear lake with 87 in sonoma. near east bay. low 70s toward richmond and berkeley. low 80s as you head down toward union city and over toward castro valley we have 85 degrees. inland look at the heat here. mid-90s through concord with 100 degrees possible in brentwood. accuweather seven-day forecast shows the temperatures coming up pretty much everywhere except at the coast. partly cloudy tomorrow, 80s around the bay. we will keep a few more extra clouds in the forecast through tuesday with cooling and then we are getting back to normal as we head toward the middle of the work week. so even with the cloud cover, the chance of thunderstorms in the mountains. we will let you know how warm it's going in the community at keeping track at live doppler 7hd. upper 90s today in the east bay valleys a couple 80s on the east bay shores and mid-and upper 80s in the south bay. another day of heat on the way. extra cloud cover, too. we will talk about a cool-down after that. cornell. >> a crisis is developing in southern california. the immigrants be being flown into our state because of overcrowding in texas. eric swalwell, a congressman, just returned from there. talking about how it is affecting people. the crisis continues to spill over. protesters on both sides of the immigration debate refuse to back down. >> the temperature was over 100 degrees, and it got railroad politically heated. >> immigrant rights advocates were there as groups arrived by bus after crossing into texas illegally. >> we are talking about buses full of children. children of that been traumatized by making a journey in some case over soda 1,000 miles alone from central america. >> what i saw was quite eye-opening. >> east bay congressman eric swalwell just returned from the texas border where thousands of unaccompanied children are overwhelming crossings and being detained for processing. he talked to a 17-year-old from el salvador. >> i asked him why he came here, and he said for a better life. i understand that. he came here to seek what i was born with. >> mark with the contra costa republican party said the children need to be sent back. >> in this case you have to do it on a case by case. if we can find the families of these children we probably need to return them to their families? >> the past four weeks 52,000 children have been apprehend ted border. swalwell said it's complicated. sending every child back isn't possible and adding more border agents isn't the answer. >> until we address the conditions that are leaving them and their families to send them here and their countries, they will continue to come. >> the white house calls it a humanitarian crisis. president will visit texas this week but so far a video. >> the chp has not identified the officer but has placed him on administrative duty. >> developing news, a 15-year-old florida teen who was beat bin israeli police and in prison has been released from custody this morning. this is a new video of the boy, leaving a detention facility. he was visiting jerusalem with his family when he was attack by israeli police officers. the officers repeatedly beat the teen and they drag him away. his parents say he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. >> palestinians live like this every day. they say we will deal with it. but us as americans, it's not human. >> the 16-year-old cousin was murdered last week in what is thought to be a revenge attack for the recent kidnapping and murder of three israeli jewish teen. this morning israeli authorities arrested suspects in the killing of his cousin. he took part in the clashes that followed. residents in the bay area feel more attacks will come. >> after that it got worse and worse. now everyone is afraid to even step out of their door. >> the boy was in prison after authorities say he was -- he attacked officers, rather, and resisted arrest while protesting his cousin's death. palestinian protesters outside the consulate in san francisco yesterday. they want an end to the escalation of violence following the death of three israeli teens. they are calling on the american people to stop funding israel. abc7 news top scholar program is in its ninth year. every year we recognize seven students who each receive a $1,000 scholarship toward his or her education. group of medical centers on the east coast testing a new way to help doctors track their patients' health by look at their credit card purchases. using data from 2 million consumetories help identify health risks. this allows doctors to predict mute health problems for people who frequently use their credit card to buy items like fast-food, cigarettes or alcohol. healthcare providers can also offer better care by calling if data shows the patient is not refilling their prescriptions regularly. many have voiced their concern with the new program complaining it's a violation of privacy and comfortable. here's a look at live doppler 7hd where the low clouds will not be absent in the days ahead. so it's going to be pretty hard to get any of that heat at the coast. we are still going to see temperatures cool here and, in fact, this, the marine layer cozying up to the shoreline. and you are looking at what is about a 1,000-foot deep marine layer. it's 58 in san jose. good morning, half moon bay. low clouds and fog through san francisco. a little bit over into oakland with low 50s. and we are looking at this fog create something visibility problems up in the north bay, crossing the golden gate bridge. just 350 santa rosa and napa a few degrees cooler with upper 40s in novato. 57 by the delta. that on shore flow much weaker today. concord at 56. 59 in livermore and already some holes in the overcast downtown san francisco. a quarter mile visibility in novato. half-mile santa rosa and elsewhere we do have the clear conditions. emeryville still looking a bit gray. temperatures here will be pretty comfortable in the 70s. and we will look for the fog mainly at the coast this morning. warmer day today for everyone except at our beaches and near 100-degree heat inland tomorrow in combination with some high to mid-level clouds visiting us from the south. so here's a look at that big, big dome of high pressure over utah that continues to expand. and around that we're looking at some extra moisture that will be pumped up into the bay area. not going to trigger any thunderstorms. we don't have the triggering mechanism. but you will notice across much of the state we have some of the moisture. the mountains in los angeles could see some showers or a thunderstorm. and also that creates the risk of high fire danger inoaddition, with 85-degree sunshine in los angeles. 106 in fresno. and just a little bit of warming here, monterey. look at sacramento. 103. and out by chico 105. a warm day today in the south bay. we will being looking at temperatures in san jose in the upper 80s. not much change tomorrow except for the partly cloudy skies. and then some cooling as we go through the rest of the work week. still numbers very summer like right on into the end of the week. 84 today in fremont. look for 75 in oakland. 71 richmond with 80 in vallejo. mid-to upper 90s in our east bay valleys. livermore 97. 88 santa rosa with 99 in clear lake. so
