All of that because of a pedestrian accident that San Jose Police started to look into last night. We understand that an adult male was found unconscious when they got here around 9 00 p. M. Here is what we know. Police tell us a male was killed when he was hit by a call at 9 00 p. M. Police received a call to 911. When they got here they found a male unconscious on the ground. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Police tell us the driver that struck the man did stay at the scene and is cooperating with investigators and has not been cited. Police are not releasing the victims name until they confirm his identity and notify next of kin. They have told us they do believe alcohol with the victim the victim may have been under the influence of alcohol. This investigation continues. Live in san jose, nick smith, abc 7 news. He began teaching in january. Officials say a background check found nothing to prevent him from working with children. Abc News Reporter will have a live report with the latest in the next half hour. A woman remains in the hospital this morning. After being stranded in the chilly waters of monterey bay for 15 hours. Abc News Reporter Katie Marzullo joins us live. Katie. A captain of a crab boat helped pull the woman from the water. Not a hero, just someone who keeps an eye out for something suspicious. A 45yearold woman clinicing to a deflated dinghy off pacific grove. Coast guard said she left from monterey wharf. Coast guard said the woman went out in the motorized inflatable boat to watch sunset tuesday. At some point the boat started to lose air, the motor fell off and it got very fog y, not to mention dark and cold. She shot off a few flares. No one saw them. Some 15 hours later, they spotted her, called 911, tried to get her out of the water themselves. She was soaking wet. Like i said, from the looks of her skin, she still had some red in her and stuff, so she must have been swimming. Ultimately the coast guard got her out of the water and monterey firefighters brought her to shore. That was just before 9 30. Rescuers say the lifejacket she was wearing likely saved her life. Richmond schools facing lots of questions from parents of a one of the teachers was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing students at his former school. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield live with the story. Amy. Reporter now they are wondering if theres any significance here at Mira Vista Elementary School in richmond. Police arrested 32yearold Ronald Guinto and charged him with 13 counts of child molestation. He is in jail, held on 1. 4 million bail. He was fired in november from making Waves Academy when the allegations surfaced and police opened their investigation. But guinto managed to get a job at mira vista elementary also in richmond, which parents at mira vista say they find very upsetting. We have a lot of teachers that have been here a long time. They Work Together very well. Our principal is excellent. Its disturbing to find out that something happened, slipped through the cracks. The mira vista principal said his Hr Department found no criminal history on gint okay. The princi guinto. The principal did not speak with the principal at making waves. The victims name has not been released. Ed lee set to unveil plans to boost pedestrian state of in the city. A record 21 lost lives in collisions, five have been killed so far this year. Mayor lee expected to implement recommendations from the partnership of city agencies aimed at reducing pedestrian accidents, seeking improvements first in the downtown tenderloin and south market areas were 60 of severe and fatal pedestrian accidents occur. Improvements including building curb extensions that make pedestrians more visible, reducing speed limits and retiming traffic signals. Opponents of gun law will ask for an emergency stay keeping it in effect today. A judge upheld a law that bans large capacity magazines or those that hold more than 10 bullets. Nra and gun owners took it to court claiming it violated the second aechlt the judge disagreed. The opponents will take their case to ninth Circuit Court of appeals in San Francisco. Just last month another federal judge upheld the highcapacity magazine ban on similar grounds. Tonight a special task force at san jose state held a third meeting to look into racial tensions on campus after alleged hate crimes on a black student. A black student claimed his four white roommates tormented him for months. They have been suspended and face charges. The task force will make recommendations in april. East bay Officials Say the university with drew because it could not reach terms with the federal government on a list of conditions trustees put out in 2010. They will consider proposals for redeveloping the property. Palo alto and largest employees union agreed to labor contract after months of tense negotiations. San jose mercury news reports all 570 members of Service Employees union will receive 4. 5 cost of living judgments over the next two years, retroactive to last december.
