So i heard five bullet shots shot. I come running and i see cops swarming this car and this guy just fighting back. Thats all i saw. Then i saw when they opened the door and broke the glass and just pulled him right out. Reporter it is unknown if the suspect had a weapon. Thats one of the questions were hoping to get an answer. Were told a spokesperson from the San Jose Police department is on his way and is supposed to address the media. Were not sure what prompted this shooting, if it was because the suspect rammed into the patrol car or there were other reasons. Were also hearing that the whole reason that the officer started initially following this pickup truck was because he was driving eare trraticall. Im told by a source that he is in his 50s. The chp has just revealed new details on a rash of recent freeway shootings all across the bay area. Abc 7 news was in vallejo as the chief of the highway patrols Golden Gate Division told us there have been 74 shootings on the freeways over the last 15 months. That is 19 shootings so far this year, 55 from last year. Thats an increase from years past. Two people have been killed, including just last week on interstate 80 and three people hurt. Investigators blame most of this on gangs. A special task force is working to solve these cases. The chp wants to reassure the public that they are safe as they drive the freeways and highways in our jurisdiction. All of us, everybody in Contra Costa County and throughout the bay area are appalled by freeway shootings as well as other shootings. 17 suspects have been arrested since november of 2015, including one arrest just this morning in connection with a freeway shooting that happened in may of last year on 580 in richmond. A 17yearold boy is recovering from being shot on highway 101 in East San Jose last night. Chp officers tell abc 7 news the shooting was gang related, but with around 80 shootings on bay area freeways since late 2015, a growing number of people are concerned. Abc 7 News ReporterAmy Hollyfield has the details. Reporter the 17yearold victim of last nights shooting was shot in the back and the face. The news of his shooting drew strong reactions this morning from drivers. Im a teacher so, yeah, its scary. I love my kids, so its really upsetting. Reporter there is also a bit of fear now among drivers as they think about another car pulling up next to them and shooting, which is what happened at 7 00 last night. It does make me think twice about how i drive. I also i cant believe somebody would do that. It just doesnt seem right. Reporter chp officers say thats a good plan. If there is a road rage incident that is coming about, avoid it at all costs because you never know who youre dealing with. No life is worth any kind of altercation. Reporter they still dont know the motive behind the shooting, only saying that investigators are following up on leads. Road rage is a major problem that were dealing with. We also deal with gang violence, so it could be one or the other. Reporter they describe the suspects car as a white dodge charger. No arrests have been made. In san jose, Amy Hollyfield, abc 7 news. A man faces charges of making a false bomb threat that delayed thousands of b. A. R. T. And muni metro commuters in San Francisco. Abc 7 news was at the civic center station after Police Closed it around 9 30 this morning. A witness told police a man entered the station with an object and claimed that he planted two bombs in the station. Explosives experts found nothing dangerous there. Today water officials began releasing 50 cubic feet of water per second to reduce lake levels. This comes after workers removed more than a million cubic feet of debris that clogged the river channel. Officials say water releases will be closely monitored. Towards the end of this run, which will be five to six days, depending on the influence of the reservoir, well ramp down to 40. Continuously evaluate the condition of the Flood Control spillw spillway. Todays release caused the river to raise 10 to 15 feet. They are warning residents along the river to be ready to evacuate if problems arise. Storm repairs still being made in orinda two months after a road there was badly damaged. A road is still closed after a bridge caved in during a january storm. A 1. 6 Million Contract was awarded to replace it, but the city has found that the ground is still moving at that site. The council will get an update tuesday night and is expected to vote on asking sacramento and washington for millions of dollars to pay for storm losses. The chp is cautioning drivers not to risk driving on a los gatos road. A popular way to get around highway 17 right now. They tweeted this video showing a worker using a shovel showing the damage to the road. The roadway is blocked off, but some drivers have gone through anyway, despite the risk. Now with the latest revelation that two russian operatives were behind the yahoo cyber attack, the level of distrust between the two countries has escalated. Lyanne melendez spoke today with the consul general of the Russian Federation here in San Francisco. Reporter yes. So we talked about the cyber attack against yahoo and other accusations the u. S. Has made against the russian government. Now, the consul general told me his government is very concerned that both countries have been moving further apart, especially, he said, during the obama presidency. Russia, he says, doesnt want to go back to the days of the cold war. On wednesday, the fbi filed criminal charges against two russian intelligence agents and two hackers who were working for them. The fbi says they stole private information from millions of americans after hacking into half a billion yahoo accounts. Today the russian government is talking very little about its possible involvement. It would be pure speculations. Again, these people are innocent people now. Theyre innocent now until theyre Proven Guilty in the court of law. So lets not talk about them like criminals. The demand for meals here in San Francisco in the past decade has tripled. Every day meals on wheels San Francisco prepares packages and delivers food to more than 3,000 seniors. But President Trumps Budget Proposal has everyone at meals on wheels, elderly clients included, anxious about where their next lunch or dinner will come from. San jose is taking a major step forward in helping the citys chronically homeless. Today the mayor led a ceremonial groundbreaking for Second Street studios. The 135unit building will be dedicated toward housing chronically Homeless Individuals in san jose. It wasnt easy, though. The project began in 2006 but was slowed by the housing crisis and funding challenges. Over that period of time, ten years now, in the Development Process this project has really weathered a storm and has now come to fruition. Its under construction and its something that were all very proud of. The project is expected to be completed by late 2018. All right, so what can you get for a buck . All right, 1. Candy bar .
