Portion of the sea wall that washed out during the weekend storms. Drone video shot this afternoon shows the lower section of the wall without any sand or rock supporting its base. Sand just, you know, washed away and thats why we have a big cavity. Reporter the sand behind the sea wall was carved out because of rain runoff and a Drainage Pipe that broke. Concrete will shore up the base of the wall again and crews will refill the walkway with sand. Popular walkway, is it going to rehope . Of course. Its supposed to open hopefully by the end of this week. The preparations for the cement pure stirred a bit of excitement and concern. Workers installed a chain link fence on the overlook and then two men tethered down the side of the hill to take a look at how much of the base was washed out. One resident whose apartment faces the cliff says he was concerned for the workers safety. The concern there is you dont go down anywhere by yourself when youre involving the ocean with a piece of land that just slid 50, 60 feet. Reporter Fire Department was called in and ask the contractors action plan and moved on. A coast guard Environmental Team was also here to make sure no contaminants were part of the washout. We came down other today just to get an assessment of what kind of pollution risks there may be along the shore line here. Obviously we cant go down since the beach is secured. Thank you, spencer. We have breaking news in San Francisco. A man has been stabbed to death in the castro district. Sky 7 flew over that scene a short time ago. The fatal stack occurred outside the post office at 18th and diamond streets. Police officers found the man with a knife in his crest. This was just before 3 00 this afternoon and he died at the scene. So far the police have not shared any descriptions of a suspect or what may have led to the stabbing. Oakland police are investigating an accident that killed a man in a wheelchair this morning. Sky 7 was over the scene on 40th street neared a line. You can see a wheelchair a few feet in front of that van. That is an east bay paratransit vehicle. The driver says he was heading to pick up a passenger when he spotted the 56yearold man lying on the street with the wheelchair next to him. Police say the driver of the car that hit the man stayed on the scene and talked with investigators. All right. Now to a wild crash in oakland, really kind of played out like a movie. This car took out two utility poles before crashing into a laundromat and the driver ran away leaving a passenger trapped inside. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield has the details. Reporter when the car flipped and came to a stop here on foothill boulevard around 5 30 this morning. Residents heard and felt it. But they didnt think that the boom they heard could be from a car crash. I thought it was an earthquake because it shook the buildings, and and then when we jumped up and saw everything, we tried to call 911 on the cell phones and, of course, it hooked up to wifi so we couldnt get through. Right now we have temperature readings mainly in the mid50s and over some of our inland locations an temperatures are down into the low 50s and tomorrow under increasingly cloudy skies, highs will range from the mid50s at the coast to mainly upper 50s to around 60 at the bay and inland and at some point tomorrow we may see light showers develop over the north bay and perhaps a sprinkle or two will move southward but generally whatever develops tomorrow will stay in the north bay through wednesday and that storm, that first one approaching us ranks one on the storm impact scale, a storm of light intensity and it will produce a quarter of an inch to threequarters of an inch and a north bay event. Taking us into 8 00 wednesday morning and throughout the day wednesday well see that moisture remain confined to the north bay and then wednesday night well see the area of heavier rain, the stronger storm beginning to pout southward. By 7 00 thursday morning most of the north bay will be covered by this system, and you can see the areas indicated here in orange and red. Those are areas of moderate to heavy rainfall so it will be a wide path of moderate to heavy rainfall and for that storm mostly had a thursday storm we give it a rank of two. A storm of moderate intensity with soaking rain and gusty wind. It will produce generally threequarter of an inch to an inch and a half of rain for urban areas and two to 4 inches of rain could fall along the coast and in the higher terrain.
