Right now the two major sticking points are over salaries and seniority rights. If all 250e67ers move to the cheaper health plan the district is adding 1. 5 on top of that. Either pay the difference or move to kaiser and then there would be additional Salary Compensation in exchange. The union wants between a 14 and 17 salary hike. Perhaps the most contentious issue is over seniority. The School District would like veteran teachers to give up their seniority rights when they try to move to another school. Thats something the union opposes. Theyre putting everybody into the same pool so veteran teachers who may have come from a closed school would have to compete for the same openings as somebody from outside the district. Reporter the teachers applying would be selected by a committee of other teachers and parents and finally approved by the principal. The idea is that those who work there every day closest to the problem understand the needs of the school best and how to meet them. If there isnt an agreement by the end of april, the union may tell its members that it may be time to take more drastic measures. Live in oakland, abc7 news. Thank you.
