Michael Finney is here to answer your questions sent to him by facebook, twitter, email. Your first question, if you have facebook, what rights do consumers have in asking for clarification of where donations go . Thats a great question. They are supposed to tell you if you ask a charity where do their donations go, how much of it goes to program, how much of it goes to running the program. What you are supposed to look for is 20 in operation, 80 in actual charitable purposes. I like far less than 80 but some
Major Charities are just at 80 so you might want to check that out. There is guide star, the
Better Business bureau and the california state attorney general keeps a data base. Check those out before you give money to anyone. Thats extremely important. Also be careful with soundalike charities. Rather than being the cancer society, it will be the cancer organization. Oh, right. Very very careful. Sheryl asks why is there a product on my store shelves that has been recalled because of listeria bacteria . I got to tell you, it shouldnt be there. Thats an official recall. Thats from the usda,
United States food and drug administration. It shouldnt be there. I would not assume the store did something bad. I would assume it was overlooked. I would report it to the store and see if it goes away. If it doesnt go away, you want to report it to the usda. Also report it to the local
Health Department. Usda will want to know about it on a macro scale. Local
Health Department will make sure its off the shelves. Dorothy emails what recourse do i have with a company that made an appointment to service my stove and did not show up for the appointment. Isnt that frustrating . There you are. You take a half day off work, they dont show. By law, if the company has at least 25 employees, theyve got to have that many, they have to give you a fourhour window. Then they have to arrive during the fourhour window. Their only exception to that is if for some reason they cant get there. Say horrible traffic, it snows, they cant get there,
Something Like that. Then they have to call you immediately, say they are not going to make it and then give you a twohour window for the next appointment. Now, if they dont make the first appointment you are just angry, you can take them to small claims court, you can sue them for up to 600. Small claims court are pretty good about awarding it but heres the catch. You have to be out money. Its like you took a day off of work to pay for that compensation.
