Reporter well, hi, larry, here at temescal, the issue is toxic algae. And lets see what it looks like right now. The beach is open, but the water is off limits. There is always a certain amount of algae in this area but for some reason the toxic algae has spike where d spiked where the Water Department has determined it is simply too unsafe or healthy to swim. Today may be a beach day for this child, but at temescal, she knows better than to go near the water. Same with these kids in junior lifeguard camp, all dry today thanks to the green blue algae blooms. The lake itself is off limits. This had to do with boats, so we cant get in the water, which is tough. But we beef it up with other skills, like water. Reporter and this is not the only area closed. So is the south end of the beach at pleasanton shadow cliffs, but there is the problem of e. Coli. The grass is brown right now. Were not watering the lawns. And that is the area where the geese would normally congregate. Now the geese are congregating at the beaches. So do ccs, and low Water Quality is an issue. Reporter at both temescal and shadow cliffs, anyone who ingests the water runs the risk of getting very sick. The water is being tested daily but there is no time table for reopening either beach. Sky 7 now takes us to live breaking news in the hills of San Mateo County where crews are fighting a brush fire in woodside which broke out at 3 30 at canada, at the campus, the Redwood City Fire Department has tweeted smoke is causing problems. And you can see it really going up here, causing problems for drivers along the freeway, although the traffic is still moving at a good pace. And a former San Francisco State University professor is under arrest. Accused of taking video of his students using his bathroom during some parties. Investigators say mark landis invited several students to his home for parties. One student found a hidden camera inside the bathroom. When the student searched the memory card he found video of other guests using the bathroom. Landis faces 15 misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy. He is no longer a faculty member and resigned earlier this month. A local woman charged with child endangerment after police say she left her kids in the car. 37yearold faley wynette was arrested after her children were found strapped to car seats inside livermore. Police believe the kids were in the car for about an hour and were not injured. Her public defender claimed she went in to use the rest room. The prosecutors dispute the claim. Yynette did not enter a plea. And three people were dead including a hostage after bank robbers drove away in a black 1997 buick century. Youre looking at it there. We now know that the first hitandrun may have happened in castro valley, miles away. All of this as we watched a dramatic end to a driver that chp says was high on drugs. Chp got their first call to 911 around 8 30 a. M. Commuters report a reckless driver on northbound 880. Less than 30 minutes later it would end like this. A view you will see only from sky 7 hd. The driver of the vehicle, rafi, the registered owner of the blue toyota didnt stop when officers hit their lights and later crashed near 33rd avenue and 880. Take a look as one, two, three, and what appear to be a fourth officer move in to get the 32 under control. Chp says that rafi was strong and combative. And officers believe they know why. We determined he was under the influence of some type of drug. Reporter police say he was weaving in and out of lanes and speeding. Then chp got word he hit other cars and kept on going. Chp says they received a total of 23911 calls directly connected to this incident. An eyewitness described the moment before the crash and cops taking rafi down. He slammed into the wall, chp drove in front of him and stopped him from moving any farther. And then jumped out with his gun and smashed the window and started to drag the guy out. He was taken to Highland Hospital for medical evaluation, due to the fact we used force. Reporter rafi was taken into custody and Police Escort transferred jiminhim here for a medical evaluation, which is standard procedure. He will look at felony evading charges. The driver is charged with hitandrun, evading police and drug possession. The suspect smashed into another car near connell road this morning before spinning out then hitting a third car. Two people, including the suspect, suffered minor injuries. And arson investigators say the cause of a roof fire at a San Jose Middle School appears to be suspicious. San jose fire got reports of smoke coming out of Davis Intermediate School early this morning. It took about 20 minutes for firefighters to put out the flames. They saved a room and furniture. And just moments ago we saw active flames and then a helicopter drop. This fire broke out at canada around 3 30 p. M. It is right near the campus of Canada College. The downed power lines may have sparked this fire. The smoke is causing some problems for drivers along that stretch of freeway. And well of course stay with the latest. But the smoke has gone down a little bit after the helicopter went by and did the water drop. Yeah, they did the water drop and it appears it might be the most effective way of putting this out. Like i said just moments ago when we were in the commercial break we could really see the flames roaring up. This was obviously something that is going to be taking a while to get it all resolved. He ran away several years ago, but another family named him harley after adopting him six years ago. The dog ran away from that familys home in tacoma, washington recently. Then a chip reunited reese with the millers in texas. We never gave up hope, and we never stopped talking about him. Harley touched our lives more than you can explain.
