slams into a home and everybody survives. >> a man is dead and another missing when they fell overboard and their boat left spinning for hours. good evening. >> charles manson who masterminded several prominent murders in 1969 was rushed to a hospital in bakersfield tonight. >> that's where he died at the age of 83. we have more on the life of the cult leader. >> he was the mastermind of some of america's most chilling mass murderers, the creator of a killer crime verdict. for decades charles manson occupied a lone place in pop culture, a man that convinced other people to commit murder for them. >> you had them thinking you were jesus christ. how did you do that? >> being myself. all men are jesus christ. i never told anybody to do anything other than what they wanted to do. >> in the 1960s, he became obsessed with the "held t "helter-skelter." five people died, including actress sharon tate. she was 8 1/2 months pregnant. the next day manson took his followers to another house, and he didn't stay for the murderers but left them with aith aith aih the 35-year-old and three young women on trial with him constantly staged antics inside the courtroom. the jury found them all guilty and they were all sentenced to death. >> a long time ago being crazy meant something. nowadays, everybody is crazy. >> that sentence would be commuted to life in prison. manson was denied story. lillian. >> deon, it was a beautiful day and the waters were calm so how the two men ended up in the ocean is a big mystery. a boat going in circles. a clear indication something was wrong. in this case it was a boston whaler, a popular fishing vessel known for being stable and see worthy. it was spinning just off martin's beach in san mateo county. >> boats are designed to circle and it's a steering mechanism where it pulls to the right or left and will stay in the circle. >> the body of one of the men was recovered soon after rescue crews arrived. the other is still missing and was believed to have been operating the boat. the harbor master believes neither was wearing a life jacket. >> certainly they would have had their heads above water for long enough to have somebody have seen them. >> they are storing the boat as evidence, and while they are not ruling anything out, it looks like an accident. >> we just want to double-check to make sure everything is fine. >> no word on how long they will be searching for tran. the harbor master plans to rejoin the effort in the morning. lillian kim, abc7 news. a plane slammed into a home in san jose today injuring three people, that's right, injurying three people. abc7 news reporter, alyssa harrington, is live there tonight for us. >> reporter: that small air was just towed away from the scene. 13 people live in the house, and the three onboard are being treated at area hospitals tonight. it's a shocking sight for those that live next to the reed hill view airport. >> the scares me. could have been kids outside when it happened. >> planes fly overhead all day long, but on sunday one crashed into the house on evelyn avenue. >> i was scared but feel lucky that i was not hurt. >> she was in the backyard when she heard a loud boom and saw her house shake. >> like a earthquake. it was just shaking. >> the plane crashed into the garage and started leaking fuel. the neighbor saw the plane go down. >> i saw it start going down. he missed a wire, and he missed a roof and then he started diving down more and then hitting a garage. >> three people were onboard the cessna 172. they were all badly injured. the plane started having problems immediately after takeoff around 3:00. >> the report was they experienced a system failure and none of that has been verified to turn around and make it back to reed. >> the neighborhood came together and helped them out. i thank god nothing else happened and nothing else exploded. >> a local pilot said this plane is part of a flying school. the faa is taking over the learned of two ongoing investigations by the national transportation safety board into run way safety at sfo. this weekend we obtained the preliminary findings from the ntsb. two separate incidents at san francisco international airport that happened two months apart on the focus of ntsb investigators, in both incidents planes entered the active runways when a plane was getting ready to take off. a virgin flight was running up to take off, and a compasspassps flight landed there when there was an alert from the run way safety system. controllers commanded the flight to go through and they performed ago around maneuver. the second incident was on december 14th, 2016. a skywest airlines airlines airs another flight was taking off. all the flights landed or took off safely. but they are looking at to what caused the runway incursions. in a statement a spokesperson sys it's still too early in each investigation to draw any conclusions including if there were any direct correlations between the two. the ntsb is investigating a third incident where an air canada flight from toronto mistook a strip earlier this year. of steinly. the defense calls her death a freak accident saying and malt. what is left over after making that beer creates a huge amount of waste. >> we pay the city to take our waste away. >> that spent grain usually would be composted, but today brew master is giving it away to some peninsula intrapreneurs. >> we are taking the grain and what is left of the protein and fiber is turning it into baked goods. >> using a drying technique, turning all that beer waste into super grain snack bars. they make them at the community kitchen in san mateo. they got the idea while making beer in college. >> i was blown away how much grain was left behind. >> there was 20 to 30 pounds of grain waste for every gallon of beer. the beer industry produces 20 to 30 billion pounds of spent grain every year. >> a light bulb went off that the creation of beer creates food. >> they started baking bread from the spent grain and giving it away to friends who loved it. it turns out that spent beer grain is low in sugar and high in healthy nutrients. >> what is left is a much higher percentage in protein and dietary fiber along with other healthy micronutrients and fiber properties that exist within the grain. >> they make a honey cinnamon bar and a chocolate coffee star, and both are sold in health and penalty stores around the bay area for $2.50 each. they are working on marketing a flour made from spent beer waste. the founders say the best thing about the tasty treats. >> it doesn't give you a beer belly but a six-pac belly. >> and solves a bigger problem along the way. reggie aqui, abc7 news. tonight members of the san francisco symphony put on an incredible show to raise money for the north bay fire victims. abc7 news was at the symphony hall tonight for the inspired performance. not only did they donate their time. everybody pitched in to put on the show. it featured iconic works by beethoven and a special appearance by congresswoman, nancy pelosi. >> we say to our first responders thank you. thank you for saving so many lives. >> all proceeds will benefit the north bay fire relief fund and the resilience fund. abc7 news was at pier 39 in san francisco tonight for the annual tree lighting ceremony. thousands of people watched as the 60-foot tall tree lit up against the city skraoeu. tonight in accuweather we are looking at light showers through the region. we are tracking sprinkles for you. let's zoom into a couple locations where we have light showers. live doppler 7 down to street level, and we go south into tiburon. light rain at this hour. light showers and sprinkles and extending to the east over 580 towards richmond. in hercules, a light sprinkle possible. martinez could see wet weather. live doppler 7 shows showers pushing off to the east. and to the north we go, 101, a sprinkle being detected even east towards lake port. all the cloud cover overhead, what its doing is slowing the cooling process, so right now we are anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees warmer than this time last night and so temperatures had be holding steady in the 50s across the board. we had a light sprinkle at this hour in san rafael. 52 in san ramon, and napa checking in at 53 degrees. temperatures aren't going to budge too far from where we are. settling on either side of 50 degrees, and in the south bay we're drying a mixture of stars and clouds, but to the north we are, in the north bay, we had the light showers falling at this hour. on the storm impact scale used here exclusively, a 1 overhead, a light system. the chance of finding light showers even tomorrow morning is in the north bay. it's not going to be a soaker like last week. let's plan your monday, 6:00 in the morning. watch the time stamp. you do notice the best chance for a shower will be in the north bay. south of the golden gate we could see a sprinkle around oakland and san francisco. the damp roads will be likely in the north bay for the monday morning commute. it's out of here by monday afternoon. essentially areas south of the golden gate dealing with clouds and sun for monday. we will see low 60s in the north bay with the early morning showers, but as you move south you see more in the way of sunshine. san jose, a mild day tomorrow. 72 degrees. 63 in san francisco. 67 in concord. if you live in the north bay, take the umbrella with you early tomorrow morning. you may need it for the first part of the day but it's out of here monday afternoon. tuesday, it's warm. we are well into the 70s and that mild air continues into friday itself and then we will track or next chance of showers. >> i liked his enthusiasm. warm! >> activity, the light green you see on the screen. to clover dale, are tracking the light system tonight through tomorrow morning. the best chance in the north bay and up to a quarter inch of a rainfall. 6:00 in the morning, you see the best chance of finding the wet commute will be in the north bay. and it moves out by monday afternoon. we have sprinkles in the morning and then dry out in the afternoon. from the coast to the bay inland, we are well into the 70s and stays that way through thanksgiving and then dry on friday and the next chance of sprinkles in the north bay. >> thank
