and dropping into monday as well. what we have out there tonight, patchy fog around the bay, but along the coast we have much thicker cloud cover. that's going to hug the coast at least the next 12 to 14 hours or so. for some of us on monday morning more the eclipse yeah we'll have cloud cover along the coast but clear skying inland. so the running theme on monday get far from the coast for the best bet for clear skies. we're just a little more than a day away from the solar eclipse happening. what will be happening is that the sun and moon and earth will be in perfect alignment. this happens actually once every two year os or so somewhere on e globe. this time occurs over the united states. the sun is 400 times bigger than the moon but so far away it will appear to be the same size monday morning and create that eclipse. the moon will have two shadows. first an umbral shadow where the moon completely covers the sun for total eclipse that is only 70 miles wide shadow in the path of totality but much broader shadow from alaska to mexico that is shadow where the moon blocks part of the sun for partial eclipse that's what we will see locally in the bay area. sky condition let's look monday future weather hour by hour minute by mind this is when the eclipse begins with a lot of cloud on the coast, best bet to move away from the coast. by 10:15 this is when the max eclipse will happen locally when three-fourths of the sun is covered. and patchy fog in parts of the east bay and thick cloud cover on the coast. move inland to clear skies. overnight tonight fog headlines breaking news out of martinez, northbound 680 is closed due to shooting involving an officer and car crash. deputies opened fire on a suspect they say tried to run them down. shootding happened at a gas station near the freeway nobody wounded but two injured. deadly plane crash in oregon has a deadly connection. it took off in san carlos and crashed close to where people are gathering to watch the eclipse and it caught fire. pilot and passenger were killed in the crash. today at boston more than 30,000 counter protested a white nationalist rally, 32 arrests. next weekend more large crowds of anti-protesters. duke university removed a statue of a civil war icon confederate general robert e. lee. was vandalized in wake of the viem ens in charlottesville. was removed
