Head coach jack del rio wants to make sure they dont forget this is a business where everyone has a shot to make this team. Were going to have a competitive camp. I told the guys when we opened, i dont care how you got here. It doesnt really matter. Youre undrafted. Youre a high pick, a low pick, or if you werent picked or if youre a veteran, certainly a veteran, weve seen a certain amount before. But still we want to make it competitive. We want to make it really, the competition real. Now, if you were in napa today, you noticed larger crowds than usual as it was family day, a chance for players wives and kids to join them. Not all teams do this, so i give the raiders credit as your family is a reminder why youre grinding out here trying to make an nfl team. Team fired up the barbecue afterwards. A little extra conditioning before they ate the barbecue. Nothing punitive, you know. Its okay. Theyre off tomorrow. So actually theyre lifting their legs right now. It was a good way to finish up, get a little extra conditioning, work their legs now. Then they get tonight and tomorrow off and be back at it tuesday. Elsewhere in the nfl, Colin Kaepernick was passed over again as Miami Dolphin head coach adam gates decided to lure jay cutler out of his rookie year in the broadcast booth to replace Ryan Tannehill who blew out his knee in practice this past week. The 34yearold cutler had one of his best seasons under gates in chicago in 2015. He already knows this offense. Cutler played last season, so hes not that far removed from the game. Skeptics think cutler has little interest in being an nfl quarterback, but its hard to turn down 10 million in salary with potential for more with incentives. Okay. Championship plaza, handrails in the stands. Those are just a few of the modifications new as president has introduced this season at the oakland coliseum. But when the surge of seagulls descended on the coliseum, the as found a new winged hero to step up to the plate. Theres not just baseballs soaring through the air at the coliseum, and those expecting a fair time have ended up with a fowl result thanks to the seagulls. Earlier in the season i actually got pooped on. They have a very good idea when its eating time. Weve been bombarded in the bleache bleachers. Enter a new hero to save the day, a predator with an intimidating wingspan, sleek swoo motions, a pole, a string. A kite . Were just tryg thist. I dont know if its going to work longterm or not. But i have to tell you after the first couple of day games, to go from over 100 birds to like eight birds during the game, its pretty incredible. Theyre like afraid. Really smart. The new bird abatement feature dubbed falcon mcfalcon face is the latest innovation by the as. The idea was hatched after will mcneil tweeted the new as president. I tweeted out out out out with. So thats what keeps them away, thats what keeps them away. Birds beware. After a dramatic drop in seagulls, the as added a second kite named scott had a bird, and they tell us they have plans to have more. Im proud of the fact. Hes also reproducing, creating other ones. That bird is amazing. There were a bunch of pests. But know that those two falcons are up this report was brought to you by river rock casino. Back in the day, candlestick, at least the seagulls waited until the game was over before descending on the stands ill just say, these kids today. At t park, the coliseum, theyr just hovering everywhere waiting for everybody to leave. They get that food in the stands. But falcon mcfalcon face is working. They went from 100 to only eight. If youre a player and get seagull poop on your hat i was going to say. Is that their way of commenting on your performance . All right, shu, thanks a lot. Thats it for tonight. Im eric thomas. Abc7 news continues tomorrow morning at 4 30. For oh, ho yeah Summer Breeze all in my mind
