officer a choice. and it's just a tragic, tragic incident perpetrated by evil. >> abc 7 news has learned the prabhus were part of holy church parish. police say the couple's daughter was not at the house during the shootings, and that she had an active restraining order against her ex-. they say he had a history of mental illness and domestic violence. katie marzullo, abc 7 news. new developments on wednesday's officer-involved shooting on market street in san francisco. sources tell abc 7 news this is not the first time the officer has fired his gun in the line of duty. officer kenneth cha shot and wounded a man in the ocean view area in january. this is a picture of cha on the night of that shooting. in that case cha shot sean moore in the stomach and groin. yesterday sources say he shot nicholas flusche. both incidents are still under investigation. jury deliberations continue in the morning in the sierra lamar murder case. the morgan hill teenager disappeared five years ago and her body has never been found. dna belonging to antolin garcia-torres was found on sierra lamar's clothing. the defense challenged that evidence, and claims she could still be they liked and commented on racially charged instagram posts. the posts sparked large protests at the school back in march and led to the students getting suspended. they claim the district exceeded its authority because the posts were on a private account. the student who posted it could be expelled. also new tonight, uc santa cruz will meet all the demands of a student group after peaceful protests. on tuesday, members of the african black student alliance took over the administration building. administrators agreed today to guarantee housing for black students at the rosa parks african american theme house, allow students to paint the dorm red, green, and black, and include diversity training for all new students. the changes start in the fall. new at 11:00, a united passenger with a ticket to paris landed at sfo instead. lucy doesn't speak any english. she says united switched her gate at newark without making an announcement in french or notifying her via e-mail. the gate the digital footprint from an attack that took down a major chunk of the internet in often. >> early the morning the attack started. >> crashing some of the most popular sites on the web, from ebay to amazon. he says the bad guys used a type of robo malware to hijack millions of unsecured devices like web cameras, and used them to overwhelm a domain service. >> someone started breaking into them en masse and started saying hey, go attack that part of the internet. >> those millions of cameras make up part of what is called the internet of things. consumer products ranging from cameras to printers to tvs and dvrs, all connect to believe the internet. and all a potential target for hackers, who use special software to search for them. >> someone can maliciously take over one of these devices. they can control it and basically do anything with it. >> he runs the internet of things research lab at sri international in menlo park. here teams of computer scientists are cracking open many of the world's most popular consumer products, looking for security flaws. >> they transmit a lot of data. but the communication is not secured. we want to make it easy for developers to do the right thing with respect security. >> but with so many new devices on the market, they say it can be tough for consumers to tell which devices are secure and which ones are not. so how do you go about securing your own home network? >> that's the scariest part. >> gavin whitechurch run internet of things world. the largest convention of its kind in the world. they say consumers might consider products that use systems like z wave or zigby which communicate with your home network via a specialized hub. >> it make it more secure because it's not wifi. wifi has been used for many years and for hackers it's very easy. >> make sure your router's firmware is up to date by checking the manufacturer's website. and be sure the password is complex enough to thwart a hacker. dan kaminsky says smartphone makers like apple have done a lot to make their devices more secure. but like other expert, he believes there is a lot more work to be done. >> the internet of things and a lot of >> indeed. it is going to be cooler, though. it was 23 degrees cooler today in san francisco. and you can see why from our east bay hills camera. that marine layer just came rushing in. stronger winds are ahead. and this deepening marine layer which is about 1600 feet deep is going to result in further cooling as we head into tomorrow. so really, you're looking at winds that will be on the increase. it was breezy today. but you look at half moon bay, and you'll notice the winds by tomorrow night will be over 30 miles an hour. gusting to about 32 miles an hour. and in other spot, it's only going to get windier than that along the coastline. really on doppler 7 you can see what the morning is going to appear as pretty much gray. it's cloudy out there. we have fog. limited visibility in spots. temperatures right now, all you have in the 50s except antioch at 64 degrees. you will sleep better tonight, no doubt about it. temperatures running lower than last night from the abc 7 news exploratorium camera. you're looking from pier 15 at a gray sky in san francisco. widespread fog and spotty drizzle in the morning. windy and cooler the next few days. a chance of showers saturday afternoon/evening. notice how extensive the gray skies are. we also have the spotty drizzle around. so your morning commute will include slick road waist. you'll need the wipers at times. and a little extra time. by noontime, we start to see some clearing. so it's going to be a while before that clearing takes place, which is why temperatures are going to drop even more tomorrow. but tomorrow afternoon we'll see the clearing. we'll see some high clouds coming through the bay area. tomorrow morning when you get-going, allow that extra time. temperatures in the upper 40s to the mid 50s with tomorrow night if you're going out for cinco de mayo, it is going to be breezy to windy. you'll want to hang on to your hats. as you notice there, jacket or sweater will come in handy. the
