morning's procession at the world trade center site. family members and friends continue a tradition that began in 2002. they read the names of the loved ones they lost in 2001. in the bay area a 9/11 memorial tradition is growing in lafayette. alyssa harrington is live in lafayette with the story. alyssa? >> reporter: it started with one person holding a flag at a lafayette bridge and now 15 years later people are keeping the tradition alive to honor the men and women who were killed. you couldn't miss it driving along highway 24 in lafayette. dozens of american flags, signs and people waiving from the overpass. on this day for 15 years people have gathered here in remembrance of those who were killed in the september 11th terror attacks. >> just thinking of the people who sacrificed their lives on this day. >> this makes me very proud. i love being out on the bridge. >> reporter: after the attacks in 2001, one man stood here with a single flag and others joined. since then the east bay bridge has been the meeting spot where a grassroots group of veterans and volunteers who call themselves the flag briggade meet with others in the community. although they will never forget organizers say it is important to educate children who weren't even born yet about the solemn anniversary. they put up old newspaper articles, peck tours and a -- pictures and a flag for people to sign jievment it allows the kids to see where we have come from. >> it is part of the american history. we were attacked and we were victimized. it is important to teach our children that freedom matters >> at dusk coast. more so into tuesday morning and breezy and cooler tomorrow. we are looking at chilly afternoon readings. as we get to wednesday the temperatures will begin to come up. by the end of the week mount san antonio college lineman bernard shermer as he has words with the other team. then the hit, the ref laid out. the 6-5, 270-pound lineman immediately ejected from the game and arrested. now facing a felony battery charge. >> his father said he was hitting himself in the head to calm down accidently striking the ref. >> if you go back and look for it, you can see he struck himself. >> reporter: trainers were rushing to help the official. he never returned to the game. this is the latest case of a ref roughed up on the field. in texas last year this lineman makes a bee line for the referee. he is down and another player divess into him head first. >> there are 23 states around the country that have decided to create laws that make it a criminal action to assault a referee. >> that was adrian bancart reporting. sherman's family hopes the charges would be dropped. if not it could end his playing career. athletic policy say -- says he could be suspended up to five years. a person accused of impersonating a doctor is arrested of fraud. he is accused of attempting to buy a $35,000 lexus at this dealership with false documents and accused of getting an elderly woman to called himself dr. love treated patients at a medical clinic with his name on the door. he is being held on three new charges of fraud with no bond. transgender actress alexis arquette has died. the 47-year-old chronicled her transition of sex reassignment surgery in the documentary "alexis arquette, she is my brother. she played in "pulp fiction" and" bride of chucky". her cause of death has not been released. a college party in connecticut ends in near tragedy as two crowded balconies collapse on to another balcony below. more than two dozen students were treated for injuries, but no one was killed. as abc news reporter reports, it is the latest in a number of similar incidents. >> chaos and off campus house party in connecticut. three decks packed with people collapsed. >> we have three balconies that collapsed. >> reporter: the third story deck crashing down after 11:00 in the meddle of the crowded party and landing on the porch below and then all collapsed to the first floor. dozens were trapped. >> we got reports that people scattered and there was debris on top of people. >> reporter: most students from nearby trinity college. >> the third floor you can see the wood was old and structurally not very sound. you have 50 or 60 kids out there. >> reporter: we have seen this destructive combination before. last year this roof collapsed during the st. patrick's day college party in california and six students were killed when this balcony collapsed from the fourth floor of an apartment building. in all as many as 30 people taken to area hospitals with minor injuries and
