live from the kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> as the mayor of oakland, i am here to run a police department not a fad house. >> they talk about the growing number of scandals enveloping the police force. they introduced the fourth leader of the embattled department in eight days. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm kristen sze. it was startling in a week that has already seen a parade of top cops come and go at the oakland police department. >> abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley has more. libby shaft was not happy. >> reporter: she was visibly upset, shaking, depply disturbed by -- deeply us disyou are -- disturbed. it included the on going sex scandal and a new sex scandal and much more. >> we are close to the end of an investigation of racist tech messages -- text messages. we feel the text messages were sent by african-american officers and they are wholly inappropriate and not acceptable of anyone who wears the badge of the oakland police department. >> mayor libby shaft but a fourth person in charge to lead the department in eighth days as paul fig row hua stepped down after two days on the job. >> i feel this is an appropriate time to place civilian oversight in the police department and send a clear message of not tolerating unethical behavior and to root out what is clearly a toxic, macho culture. i am here to run a police department and not a frat house. >> the alleged trafficking of under age sex by officers with the knowledge of superiors has exploded to include other police agencies and even the d.a.'s office. this city councilmember is trying to keep all allegations in perspective. >> i feel the vast majority of our officers serve with integrity and honorably and in the climate. >> how do we recruit? >> an urgent search is underway for a new police chief that can deal with it all. in oakland, leslie brinkley abc7 news. >> another scandal involving a veteran oakland homicide investigator. he has been accused of allowing his mistress to access his files and write a police department. sergeant mike gant is being investigated by the alameda county d.a. his girlfriend became angry when she found out he was married and posted case evidence left at her house on social media. they did not say how many cases gant investigated that could be affected. it has been a tumultuous eight days in the police department. sean went resigned in a widening sex scandal in his department. that day they announced the deputy chief of bart's police department will become the interim police chief. just six dayses later, wednesday, shaft fired pharaoh after she became aware of an affair he had while working for the department. paul figeroa took over and now he stepped down-and-out on leave. he is asking to return at the rank of captain. protesters called for the release of the names of all officers who knew about the sekule misconduct scandal and did nothing about it. it involves officers having sex with an underage girl. they hung a banner that said opd guilty of human trafficking and statutory rape. >> opd is rotten to its core. >> the protesters say they want to help the city find the next chief of police. for the latest developments download the 7 news app and enable the push alerts. >> to our other top story the wildfires burning right now across the state. >> in southern california the sherpa fire as it is called is nearly 6000 acres and 20% contained. >> 400 homes are under a mandatory evacuation tonight. melissa mcbride has the latest from santa barbara county. >> there is no gusty winds the firefighters feared. >> so far knock on wood we are holding the fire where we are and we are trying to get ahead of it it we will be ahead of the game. >> they set backfires to burn several acres of brush in a canyon. >> this whole area is getting burned off so you can create a buffer so the fire can come and run down the area here. >> so far the area has blackened 5800 acres since wednesday. 35 mile-an-hour winds caused it to grow threatening 270 structures and forcing residents to evacuate. water dropping helicopters have attacked the fire from the air. the fire is burning in rugged, difficult to reach terrain for crews on the ground. >> as they came around the corner they saw how frightening it was. >> thisy were one of the many onlookers who applauds the hard work of the more than 1200 firefighters working to put out the blaze. >> once you see that that many people are coming together to tackle the beast and it is overwhelming to see them push him forward. >> that's melissa mcbride reporting. we want to turn to the weather. >> drew is with us. high winds and that could be a major problem trying to sustain the fire. >> we will show you the neck 24 hours and it stays rather active in the early morning and picks up with the gusts over 30 miles an hour. the compound problem is intense heat moving in. aryly 105 degrees. a piece of this heat will move in our direction. how it affects your weekend coming up in a few minutes. thank you very much. the fire is one of several burning throughout the state tonight. and with the heat coming fire season could take a turn for worst. that is the fear. katie is live with that story. katie? >> reporter: dan in santa clara county they say they have reached peak staffing on monday and the fire danger is high. >> this video shows one large structure destroyed by flames. the camanche fire grew in a couple hours forcing mandatory evacuations. the king fire has burned more than 200 acreses and damaged two homes and two out buildings. and in napa valley a wildfire charred about a dozen acres this afternoon. the fire season is off and running. >> i recommend to everybody to expect that the fire could be coming near them. >> they say the fire danger is high. part of the problem is rain. >> northern california received more rainfall than southern california and it benefited the grass crop. for us that's the fuel that carries the the fire. >> the heat wave forecast for next week won't help. firefighters are asking people to make sure they clear dry brush and grass away from their homes and seal the house in places where flying embers could take route. >> you don't need to be in the fire to lose your house. >> in santa clara county, abc7 news. >> the fbi now has surveillance video from inside the orlando nightclub where 49 people were killed. this video has not been released to the public and fb officials -- fbi officials say it is graphic and it shows omar mateen walking through the club firing on the crowd in cold blood. they say mateen texted his wife and asked if it was being covered on the news. she expressed love to mateen. the fbi wants to know what she knew before beforehand. >> mass midis premeditated. she knew something. >> her and mateen's father are on the no fly list during the investigation. abc7 news was in redwood city at a vigil for the victims of last weekend's mass shooting at a gay nightclub in orlando. the vigil included a reading of the victims names and candles. an oil company could be looking to sell off the repine re. >> we will be fine dub nation. >> despite a tough loss, dub nation is op optimistic about game seven. >> and a presidential hike in yosemite. the father's day weekend in the wilderness is next. >> first, here is a look at "jimmy kimmel live." >> my pants made me uncomfortable. they were right here. it was like a slack. who wears a slack?
