Eric, it has been 24 hours since those first shots were fired and the scene pulse nightclub, beyond us is still active as authorities work still to identify the victims. I had the opportunity to talk with two men who were here at the crime scene tape. They were too shaken to talk on camera but they told me they were supposed to be at pulse last night, but they decided at the last minute to go elsewhere. Then of course hours later they find themselveses visiting friend in the hospital, one friend with three gunshot wounds and they are waiting to learn of the fate of other friends. Look, they are shooting back and forth. Reporter utter terror in this orlando nightclub. Oh my god. They are all shooting back and forth. Reporter a lone gunman armed with an assault weapon and handgun killing 50 people injuring more than 50 others. Everybody just dropped to the ground and people started running. There was bodies everywhere. I was crawling and kept crawling. It was like a scene out of a horror movie. I played dead. Reporter the nightmare in this gay bar lasting three hours. S diddens of people held hostage and some sending heart wrenching Text Messages to their family. Please come and get us out because he is about to kill us. He said he was gonna die and he loved me. Thats the last thing i heard. Reporter after several agonizing hours kristine learned her son christopher was among the dead. I dont know. It is terrible. He is my only child. Reporter the gunman killed at the scene identified by investigators as 29yearold omar mateen. Law enforcement Officials Say after the shooting began he called 911 to pledge his allegiance to isis. The terror group is claiming mateen was an Islamic State fighter, but there was no indication the attack was planned by isis. Tonight investigators are searching the teens home two hours from orlando and his exwife calling him a sick person. He wouldnt allow me to speak to my family. Reporter this is the way San Francisco holds a vigil for 50 victims of a mass murder at a gay club in orlando. Most of these people likely didnt know any of the victims, but what happened in florida touched the Lgbt Community here. For supervisors like david campos apologized. Im sorry for being emotional. As a gala tino man as a gay latino man, it is not shocking to me the worse mass shooting in the history of this country would target the queer community. Reporter one of the first to be named was Edward Sotomayor is known to the people in the crowd. I met him last september when we went on a cruise in europe.
