With live breaking news. And that breaking news is from the east bay. A train with more than 200 passengers on board derailed into a creek. First responders raced to the scene. Sky 7hd shows the crash scene from above more than a dozen people are injured. Tonight we are learning the powerful storms that hit the bay area over the weekend likely played a part in this accident. Good evening. Thank you for joining us. Im ama daetz. Dan ashley is off. The train derailed around 7 30 near niles county road in Alameda County. It happened as it hit a tree that had fallen on to the tracks. Lets go to katie who is live at the scene. Katie . Reporter ama, from our Vantage Point on the scene through this thick brush you can barely make out what is the front of that train. The nose is down into the water, but my photographer was able to get up close, right on the waters edge there briefly and he was able to bring us this video. We want to get to that right away. It is a very dramatic scene. You can see with that car partially underwater, it was the only car that plunged into the creek. We understand two other train cars are described tonight as unstable. There were 214 passengers on the train and incredibly most of them were able to get themselves off the train uninjured. But 14 people were hurt. 10 of those people with minor injuries and four have serious injuries, but we are told those injuries are not lifethreatening. I was able to talk with an Alameda County fire captain. He and six others made up the secondary search team combing through the derailed car combing for anyone who may have been missed. You are focused and you are doing the best job you can. You are really hopeful there is not anybody there and you are double checking and making sure everything is right and safe. He says they are all breathing a sigh of relief. As to how this could have happened to a division chief with the Fremont Fire Department , they tell me the train hit a tree that had fallen on to the tracks. There are representatives, of course, from ace train out here tonight along with half a dozen other fire and Law Enforcement agencies. Ace train is announcing that there will be no service tomorrow. And there is no time frame as to when the train will be up and out of the water. Abc7 news. Katie, thank you. This is going to take quite some time to get the situation all cloned up. Cleaned up. This is a live look from live 7hd. You can see the train on its side after it derailed. We spoke to a witness earlier, john wong, who was in the back of one of the trains. I know it is dark and it is hard to see right now, and it will take some time to get cleaned up. Cornell bernard has been talking with other passengers on that train and he joins us live from the crash site. Cor medical . Cornell . Reporter injured passengers were taken to several local hospitals in the use bay. Those lucky enough to walk away from the crash are telling a terrifying tale tonight. Now, passengers who evacuated the cars walked about two miles down the track to a waiting area off niles canyon road where they are giving blankets until shuttle buses could arrive to pick them up. Many say the track sounded strange, sounded weird. That was right before the crash. It was almost silent. The impact sent passengers flying inside the car which derailed. At that moment i realized something was wrong. I held on to the rails and the train flipped over. Then i saw people falling over from the other side of the train. The train flipped and the next thing we knew the water we started seeing water coming into the bottom of the train and it was rising fast. We all realized that we were fine except one lady was pinned at the top end of the first train, and then we decided to open up the emergency exits and start making our way out. Our car went off the track and it stopped right at the edge which is a blessing. Were you thrown out of your seat . I was thrown out of the seat and i hurt my shoulder, but i wont say anything because there are worse people right now. I prayed everyone would be okay. It is scary. It is still scary. Somebody was watching over us and everybody got out and everybody will hopefully be okay. All i can say is there is a lot to be thankful for. I was never so happy to see the lights flashing on the side of the road. We knew they were here and everybody was rolling. It was a very cold night out here and a long wait for many passengers. Shuttle buses are now taking those strappedded pass stranded passengers where they can be picked up by family members. Many say it is a night thisy will never they will never forget.
