The exit is an extremely tight hair pin turn and there is a warning for truckers not to use it. The Highway Patrol hope to have the truck cleared shortly. Sergio is live in San Francisco with what happens next. Sergio . Katie, this is a maintenance project that was supposed to continue on until the middle of december. You can see the traffic signs are still up, but the metal plates have been removed. The project has been suspended and tomorrow cal trans says they will be meeting to see how they can start the progress up again and not have it affect traffic so much. This is the back up during the friday morning commute. Very bad. It took an hour and a half to get there. How long does it usually take . 30 minutes. This was the cause of the back up. Steel plates that commuters slowed down to a crawl to drive over. They were part of a maintenance project on the bridge, but they were removed this weekend. This time the traffic was so bad for so long we took a look at it and thought lets go ahead and extend the project. It goes back to near childrens hospital. What is worse, the back ups continued all morning and even into the lunch hour. Crews scheduled this bridge maintenance through december after noticing cracking where the top decks meet. With the project now suspended, the work will have to be rescheduled. No concern for catastrophic failure. When you start noticing the cracking, the joints have to be replaced and that is wear and tear on the bridge. It is used to cover the work area and they have been used before without traffic issues. Project managers and engineers will meet to figure out how to continue the work with minimal impact on traffic.
