As of this weekend all of the heavy lifting is done and the ramps are in place and right now crews are focusing on the finishing touches. As crews are getting closer to finishing up the work on the eastern span of the bay bridge, there are a few people who have had the unique experience of driving over the new span. Chp officer daniel hill is one of those officers. From a personal perspective and the perspective of a highway patrolman it is very nice. He lead several over the bridge and only a few things that need to be done like patches to be paved. You would be driving over rough patches, but it could carry traffic. Crews have taken the opportunity to update lights inside the tunnels with new leds and washing years of soot off the roof. And the old span . There is work on that too. In 80 years hundreds of millions of cars have safely driven over the eastern span of the bay bridge. But right there you can see is the beginning of its end. This portion of the old bridge is being demolished to install a temporary bike lane over the next three years. The rest of the old steal structure will also come down. Progress is going as scheduled and there is a chance it may open early. If we can open the bridge early to the public, we will. There is no reason to keep it closed until 5 00 a. M. It happened on bristol cone drive this afternoon. Police were called to the scene by several 911 calls from neighbors who they say were seooting off several weapons. They arrived within a minute or two on the scene. They were confronted with an armed suspect. During that confrontation the officers fired their weapons at the suspect. They clearly felt their lives were in danger. Authorities say no one else was injured during the incident. Now to the crisis in syria. Although the official cause of the rim fire is under investigation, a fire chief says it is almost certain that it was caused by illegal marijuana growers. One driver has already been taken into custody tonight. Authorities say there have been fewer arrests this year than in 2010. Than in 2012. Santa clara county is reporting 43 fewer drunk driving arrests. It ends monday at midnight. Palo alto Police Released a sketch of a man suspected of robbing two people at a post office this week. They say this man pulled a gun on a couple in their 50s. They were dropping off mail just after midnight at the east bay shore post office.
