Crews used alternative tactics to slow an out of control wildfire that is causing massive destruction near yosemite. Good evening and at the for joining us. Im ama states. The fire has burned 130,000 acres and it is just 7 contained. More than 5500 homes are threat threat threatened and 11 destroyed. The number could rise. John alston is live tonight with the latest on the fire. John . Ama, one of the larger fires is on a hilltop behind me. This is south of highway 120 and exactly where authorities do not want this to go. The cost of the firefighting effort so far is in the 8 million range. One weapon against the fire has been a pistol that shoots an insydney year device to burn the ground cover before the main fire can. Today firefighters were able to get water on flames burning within yosemite. The park remains open, but highway 120 is still closed. Along that road small fires flared into larger ones inan instant. For the first time in a week residents were allowed to see their property. Korean gnaw and her brother originally from the bay area lost two homes with their family for years. The main house survived. So we feel super lucky to have this guy Still Standing which was my family home in high school. So, super close call for this house. They were out here until the last second possible. We are thankful for those guys. They work hard and risk their lives to do this stuff. All day the sky was dominated by a massive mushroom cloud. The fire reached about two miles from the reservoir. It is San Franciscos main water source. Officials say so far Water Quality has not been affected. There is no evidence of ash in the water just yet. Tomorrow could be brutal. Officials with cal fire and the bureau of Land Management say they are expecting the possibility of winds of 40 miles an hour on some of the higher ridges with gusts up to 60 miles an hour. John alston, abc7 news. This map shows the growth of the rim fire. Now, this pink outline shows you how large the fire was yesterday. This morning it spread to this red outlined area. Now the flames are burning into part of Yosemite National park. This green line here is the park boundary. You can see where the flames have started to encroach on to park land. And you can see how much smoke is going up into the atmosphere from the fire. This picture was taken today from the international spacestation. And check out this picture. You can see how high the smoke is rising. This photo was taken out of the window of a plane, the smoke about 30,000 feet into the air. Tonight the state has Financial Aid to help pay for fighting the rim fire. A grant from fema gives california the funds to reimburse firefighting expenses. Govenor jerry brown has expanded the state of emergency to include San Francisco. The fire is approaching the reservoir and three hydro electric power stations, two of which are now turned off as a precaution. The city is now using supplemental Power Supplies at a cost of more than 600,000. This cell phone video shows a cabin being burned down. The fire broke out at 3 00 this afternoon and spread quickly. Residents of 80 homes have been forced to evacuate. The gray matter on the map from a little to the north and east of yosemite village. That of course, all of that is blowing from the southwest to the northeast. So definitely very unhealthy air quality of course. The high fire dangers are still in affect for this region. Lets get to some of the current conditions. The temperatures are still quite mild from 70 to 74 degrees and the relative humidity is 19 . They still have some southwest gusts to 30 miles an hour. That is around the 3,000 foot level. Tomorrow the temperatures are near 90 degrees and still low relative humidity. It is sitting in the teens. It looks like there could possibly be even some isolated thunderstorms as we head into monday and tuesday. So not a lot of relief for those firefighters. Ama . Leigh, thank you so much. New at 11 00, police in San Francisco are looking for two men after a woman was shot at a boutique dog hotel. She was working at the wag hotel on 14th and harrison about 7 00. Police say the man shot her in the leg during an attempted robbery and then ran off. The woman is expected to recover. San jose police are investigating the 33rd murder of the year. Officers responded to a shots fired call shortly after 1 00 this afternoon near north third and julian streets. They found a man shot at least once. He later died in the hospital. A man success a man suspected of stabbing his mother to death in marin city is under hospital guard. Officers found the body of 44yearold rosa aldona last night at a home on coal drive. Carlos aldona was found covered with blood and carrying a knife boarding a transit bus. Officers fired after they say aldona threatened them. An intense search after news of a missing toddler. Daphne webb was reported missing by her father in oakland. Now, details on the search. Reporter the family gathered in prayer before search teams headed out. Dozens of volunteers and their cadaver dogs combed the trails looking for the 22monthold girl. If he found something he would sit at the source and i would go running to see what was there. And then i would call him away because it would be a crime scene so we would want to preserve it as long as we could. Daphne has been missing since july 10th and her father continued to be a person of interest. He said his daughter disappeared when he left her in the car with his 87yearold mother. They didnt say why they chose to search this spot, but they are committed as ever to solving this case. With the Investigative Team we have here, i am confident we will find out what happened to this baby. There were moments of hope during the search. They found shovels and a pick they thought could be related to daphnes disappearance. Police even called in a helicopter to take aerial photos of the area. But in the end they came up empty. Family members are holding out hope that daphne may be out there alive. On one hand i am relieved, but on the other hand we are still looking and still searching. We still want our baby back. Oakland police say there is one more area they plan to search, but they wont say where or when just yet. In oakland, lilian kim, abc7 news. A fiveyearold vallejo girl is being treated for serious injury after falling from a second story window. It happened on fair haven just after 6 00. When the firefighters arrived the screen was off the window and the little girl was on the ground. She was airlifted to childrens hospital. Her condition has not been released. In palo alto, a cement truck driver died when his vehicle overturned. The accident happened just after 5 00 this morning and closed west middle field road for eight hours. The drivers body was found inside the truck. He was the only occupant. An accident between a motorcycle and an suv in San Francisco sent two people to the hospital. It happened around 8 30. The motorcycle was going west on bay street when police say it turned into mason street in front of an suv. The collision sent both people on the cycle skidding under a parked car. New at 11 00, a man whose dog was malled by a pittbull is hoping the owners will come forward. The attack happened at a popular off leash park in San Franciscos dog patch neighborhood. Nick smith has the story. The next thing he knew she was pinned on the back. He was taking skyler for a walk when the beagle and lab mix was attacked. Within seconds she was in the pittbulls jaws and the pittbull was shaking her like a rag doll. These are the photos of the injury skyler sustained after being malled. Deep punctures through her back and this major tear on her left side. A gaping wound that required multiple stitches. The question why he wasnt in control of his dog in the first place. He confronted the man he thought was the owner of the pittbull. They just started walking off. They were fleaing the fleeing the scene. A person who asked not to be identified captured it with his smart phone. Officials tell abc7 news that the incident is under investigation and they are working to identify the pittbull and its owner. I have been coming here 25 years. Those who use the park regularly are worried the negative publicity will give ammunition to the opponents of the off leash park. The bridge will close in just four days, late wednesday, august 28th. The closure will last up to five full days over the long labor day holiday.
