alley last night. neighbors heard activity firsthand. >> we heard two pop shots, bam, bam, and that was it. >> reporter: the confrontation began outside this 7-11. the clerk said he bought cigarettes, cig gars, and beer. an officer was flagged down by someone who reported that a person had a gun in the parking lot. the officer called for backup at 11:37 p.m. his customer ran across the street and threw the shopping center. police followed. the swat team arrived, a helicopter hovered overhead. a drone scanned the scene. neighbor louis hernandez said they asked the suspect to surrender for 15 minutes. >> they said, everything will be okay, everything will be okay, just come out, but he would not. >> reporter: the police have not said why, but two officers eventually fired at the suspect. he died at the scene. no officers were injured. was there a firearm recovered? >> that's still in the preliminary stages of the investigation. >> reporter: the others inside the suspect's car were taken into custody for questioning and the shopping center reopen within the past half hour. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. new this morning, a stabbing victim recovers at san francisco general hospital after being attacked at 6th and mission streets this morning. the stabbing happened at 7:30 avm. police took one into custody. the intersection was closed for hours after the stabbing. investigators have not released amotive. happening now, pge is working to restore power after a huge tree fell. the tree took out power lines and power poles on prospect street before 8:00 last night. they are taking the tree apart. 2,000 customers lost power. they turned lites back only for most people, but the remaining 35 customers will not have power restored until after 8:00 tonight. another storm is headed our way, concerns more trees will fall this week, and we're watching the next storm. clouds moving in over san francisco as we look at our tower camera. mike has a closer look when the rain is expected to move in, mike? >> all right, matt, thank you very much. hi, everybody. talk about how active the week will be and into next week. the next 8-14 days full of chances of wet weather and cooler than average temperatures. 40% rain tomorrow, 70% wednesday and 40% thursday and sunday night, not easter morning, into monday. more lain. what's coming our way tomorrow? healthy looking storm headed our way, but it has limited energy and moisture and weakens and moves north of us for the most part. our first storm on tuesday, scattered showers, rain potential in the south bay to the north bay, breezy, but nothing's going to be damaging as far as flooding or windy conditions. that's why i ranked it light, 1, on the storm impact scale. a look at the rest of the storms and temperatures, and, of course, opening day forecast coming up. >> of course. thanks, mike. even with our next round of rain in the forecast, the city of san jose moves forward with plans to close down a temporary flood shelter. the seven trees community center housed victims of the coyote creek flood since february. 60 people are still there and forced out today. the city will be able to put some people in hotels and motels for 30 days at a time. the housing department is working on affordable housing options for those residents who are unable to return home. new this morning, judge gorsuch was sworn in, but the fight has not ended yet. >> reporter: judge neil gorsuch, now the 113th person to be sworn into the highest court in the count country. his confirmation marked the first major win for the trump administration with congress. >> the most important thing that a president of the united states does is appoint people to the united states supreme court, and i got it done in the first 100 days. that's even nice. >> reporter: also another political first, confirming a supreme court nominee with the simple majority vote, 54 yes to 45 nays. >> i'm humled by the trust placed in me today. i will never forget that to whom much is given, many will be expected. >> reporter: taken more a year to get to today. the long road to a new supreme court justice was paved with partisan politics. last year, republicans refused to consider president obama's pick to fill the spot, judge garland, arguing the next president should choose the nominee. this year, democrats argued gorsuch's record was too conservative and filibustered to remove his nomination. now they return to the previous balance, four conservatives, four liberals, and kennedy as the swing vote. he could be a deciding vote in upcoming cases like housing discrimination, church and state separation, and same-sex rights including a case involving a colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. janae norman, abc news washington. developing news in egypt. the country's president declared a three-month state of emergency following deadly bombings at two coptic christian churches. funerals have been held for the first victims. state media reports 49 killed. isis claims responsibility for the bombings. this video here shows a suicide bomber detonating his bomb at a security check point outside a church in alexandria. that came hours after an earlier attack. egyptian troops have been deployed to help police secure vital visits. russia and iran have warned the united states not to take further military action in the war torn country. last week's air strikes crossed the line, they say. the group warned if the u.s. conducts further military operations in syria, there would be some sort of response. social media erupts with the latest airline controversy. this time, a man is forcibly dragged off the plane against his will, and now united airlines tries to explain why. what we're learning about the shocking videos. and breaking news in southern california. just word of a school shooting in san bernardino. at least four injured there. this is a live picture from our sister station's helicopter breaking news from southern california where there's been a shooting at an elementary school in the city of san bernardino. this is a live picture from our sister station kabc's helicopter. now, this happened in the past half hour in north park elementary school. our sister station kabc says there's four injuries. police spoke person tells kabc the situation is contained and suspected shooter is down as well. san bernardino police chief said the shooting is believed to be a murder-suicide. neighboring schools are on lockdown. we're following this closely and will update you through our news. all right. united airlines doing damage control this morning after an end counter going viral. three police officers dragging a passenger off a plane. we want to warn you. this video is disturbing to you.
