Today. Cartel management filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday. The documents show the company has more than 1. 8 million in estimated liabilities with less than a 1 million in assets. Surfing community was blindsided. Conditions were ideal last week but the contest was never called. There was definitely some confusion. People were frustrated because conditions were perfect. It was ideal on thursday and everyone was here and it was a beautiful day. So, um yeah, there was some concern, but there wasnt direct communication so we didnt know. A person close to the management said Cartel Management that took over permits as well, and surf legend jeff clark started the contest in 1998 but clark and others who run the actual contest havent spoken to Cartel Management in months. Michelle cleave is friends with jeff clark and others in the Maverick Community and optimist optimistic about the future. It wont go away. It wouldnt happen because the weather didnt cooperate. So it is definitely here to stay. Reporter just got this statement from titans of mavericks l. L. C. And Cartel Management inc. And they say the chapter 11 process will allow them to reach new heights in the right hands and it is time for a Larger Organization to gain from our hard work. So the hope is that the titans of maverick contest will be bigger and better in the future. In half moon bay, matt keller, abc 7 news. Live doppler 7 lighting up with green and some could see showers soon. Here is a look at live camera shots. The Golden Gate Bridge and walnut creek and santa cruz, somewhat cloudy and hazy. But the rain is coming back. Mike nicco is here tracking the latest storm. Thank you very much. Hi, everybody. Lets go to live doppler 7. It looks active. However, all of this is evaporating before it reaches the ground. And that is why it is cooler today than yesterday. Same thing when the moisture evaporates off your skin. And lets throw the clouds off of there. The storm is still about 800 miles off shore, the center of it. But look at the brights of showers and look at that coming in tomorrow through friday and my biggest concern with this will be ponding on the roadways, especially for tomorrows morning commute. We have a lesser chance of trees coming down because of gusty winds and Power Outages and small creek flooding but to chance of river flooding. We do have a few showers for the rest of this afternoon. Ill show you that in an hour by hour look at the next storm coming up. Sounds good, mike. Track todays storm with the abc 7 news. New details, a forward judge denied bail for the wife of omar mateen and ordered her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. The government said she helped her husband plan the attack which left 49 people dead. She said she didnt know what happened after until the shooting. She is on suicide watch. Alameda county is scrambling to fix a multimillion Dollar Community system creating faulty arrest warrants and changing criminal convictions an more. Amy hollyfield is live. Some people had stayed in the county jail an extra day or two buzz the order from the judge to release them didnt reach the jail until much later. So that would be terribly frustrating to be sitting in jail when you didnt need to be. Alameda county has clerks working quickly to put orders from judges into the new Computer System but the problem is they dont think the system is meant for a court this size. They say it takes these clocks longer, more dropdown screens than the 40yearold system they were using required. So if the judge revoked a warrant and that takes a time to get into the system, the Police Officer sees the warrant and arrest the person unnecessarily. The public defender is asking the court stop using the software and that is a problem because they dont have an old system to go back to. It is in moth balls. So everyone is scratching their heads. It is very frustrating. And there is no obvious solution in sight. We spent a lot of money on the system that we have, and we dont have the resources to buy a new system, were looking at what it would take to maybe try to program our own system or some kind of a fix. But again, that Program Programs dont come cheap, especially in the bay area. So were frustrated because all roads to solutions seem to lead to money and that is the one thing the court doesnt have enough of right now. Reporter we reached out to the software company, tiler technologies, but havent heard back. The Alameda CountyCourt Officials say other counties are dealing with the same problem and hoping that tiler technology will help them find a solution. And Alameda County say the number of problems has gone down. The clerks are getting faster at dealing with the system. Theyre also now prioritizing issues, so they are putting the warrants and the jail releases ahead of other less important, less lifeimpacting issues. Live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. Thank you. And were tracking developing news in san jose. A man was shot and killed in front of an Optometrist Office last night. We were there when police first started the investigation. The legal battle against the president S Immigration order is heating up here in the bay area. As we reported yesterday during this newscast, San Francisco was the first u. S. City to file a federal lawsuit against the order. Now santa clara count plans to do the same thing at the county level as early as tomorrow. The president s order strips sanctuary cities of federal funds. San francisco and santa clara counties stand to lose a billion dollars each and argue the order is uncontroversial. And one cabinet picks and all 10 are boycotting the new head of the Environmental Protection agency. President trump has nominated oakland attorney scott pruitt and that the boycott means no one is in charge of the epa, for now. This is after a busy morning on the capitol hill. They approved the nomination of senator Jeff Sessions to be attorney general. Every democrat voted against him but he is still expected to get approval by the first senate. Also today president trumps picks for house and treasury secretaries were approved and republicans overrode a longstanding rule requiring one democrat to be present for votes. Georgia congressman tom price was approved as Health Secretary and steve minutia was approved for treasury secretary and they were both unanimous. And the Supreme Court nominee, neil gorsuch arrived this morning with mike pence. Meeting with leaders a day after trump promises that he would be a shoein for nomination. We are in washington with what is ahead for the nominee. Reporter the federal Appeals Court judge from denver headed to capitol hill following his nomination to the highest court in the country. I think the president made an outstanding appointment. Were all thrilled and looking forward to getting confirmation process started. Reporter optimistic about the judge for confirmation, the president said he earned bipartisan support before. When he was nominated to the tenth Circuit Court of appeals he was confirmed by the senate unanimously. Also s that unanimous. Can you believe that. And at this point it doesnt look like it will happen again. And while democrats warn of a looming battle. Chuck schumer expressed doubted saying in a statement, democrats will not simply alout but require an exhaustive and robust and comprehensive debate. [ chanting ] reporter protesters flocked to the Supreme Court steps to speak out about the consequential nominee. Gorsuch could end up deciding cases on transgender rights, police use of forces and rights of religious schools and disabled children. With this nominee there is too much at risk. The right to who you love, the right for womens access to her body i pledge if im confirmed, i would do all of my powers permit to be a faithful server of the constitution of the laws of this great country. Reporter gorsuch needs the confirmation of eight democrats to be confirmed and that is tough that democrats were upset that republicans blocked president Barack Obamas nominee. And what is expectd to be a large protest against a speech by a bright bart editor. The Internet Troll has been criticized as being a racist and misogynist. Due to protests, a visit was canceled. Tonights visit is sponsored by the Berkeley College republicans. I challenge the republicans to keep an open mind, hear what he has to say. For the two hours that hes here. And try to offer rebuttal and questions to the dauking points he will talking points he will make. There was a challenge last night in san luis obispo. A former raiders cheerleader and other former nfl cheerleaders are fieding a classaction lawsuit that alleges that the league conspired to compress their wages, paying them less than minimum wage. We train so hard to be there our entire lives and it is an amazing experience but i finally grew up and realized that i need to pay for the value im adding to the team. Reporter the women were required to attend rehearsals and public appearances and never paid for that time. So when i was on team, we would be paid 125 per game. And we were would be paid that amount in one lump sum at the end of the season and for the ten home games it is 250 and minus fines, if you are missing a certain number of pract is, you could be fined 40 for that and that all comes out of your paycheck at the end. We reached out to the nfl who said they were not aware of the lawsuit and not interested in commenting, but sonny hostin is he they might want this to go away. I think the name of the game here is settle, settle, settle. And i think that is what happened before. And i think change needs to be happen. They need to all be paid minimum wage for their time. Lets start with the outside shot showing the changing landscape of our skies. Sutro tower showing the haze below and high of the midlevel clouds ahead of our next system. We had issue this is morning in livermore. The reporting station was saying unhealthy amounts of fine particulate matter or soot, for those that are most susceptible, but all of us in the moderate category and that means no wood burning through midnight for spare the air. And the north bay is forecast to have the worst air quality moving forward. Not much on the fog unless you are heading out toward possibly tracy. Our next storm is out there and you could see what it is doing from the east bay hills camera. The high the clouds there all of the haze hanging around. Today february 1st, it begins dry but umbrella needs as soon as this evening as waves of wet weather begin and last through at least tuesday. Heaviest tonight, brightest saturday and also sunday. Here is a look from south bay and you could see the bay bridge in the on is of haze there. Our p. M. Planner, hazy and not as mild due to the lack of clouds and evaporating rain keeping us cooler. Mid50s to 60s. And 4 00, comfortable. And mid to upper 50s. And staying mild. 6 00 and 8 00 and scattered showers arriving for the 8 00 hour. The first wave will be light. Light on the storm impact scale. Here is what to expect. Light showers, a little breezy. Damp in a few areas for the evening drive. Now, the storm will increase in intensity tonight through tomorrow morning with brief moderate to heavy downpours. Winds are gusty getting up near critical levels for damage and a slight chance of lightning and thunder. So the commute for the evening hours, isolated light showers, ale painted yellow so you will have some caution as you head out and know that thing will change the later you are out. Tomorrow morning, it is tough. Downpours early, and standing water and hydroplaning and gusty winds pushing you on the bridges as the winds come out of the south and move perpendicular to the eastwest bridges. So from 5 00 on, the isolated showers scatter and then at 2 00, yellow and orange and even red and that is moderate to heavy rain and lining up and moving through by about 5 00 or 6 00 and that leave the moisture on the ground. Through the day, you could see green out there as waves of showers will continue. Now as we head throughout the day tomorrow, were going to have some gusty winds. 40 to 50 mileperhour gusts above 1,000 feet. And that means we could have some Power Outages. Starting at 10 00 tonight, winter storm warning for the see air you a. One to three feet at level pass levels until saturday morning so head up saturday afternoon unless you want to drudge through that. We have the storm impact scale every single day. Showers light this weekend, nothing to cancel plans over but monday and tuesday they get heavier but tonight is the stronger part of all seven days. The good news is the ground has had plenty of time to dry off. A little bit. It is runoff but not as excessive as a couple of weeks ago. Thanks, mike.
