tom llamas. we begin tonight with president trump's fiery attack on the impeachment inquiry. demanding the whistle-blower be revealed. the president blasting democrats, accusing the whistle-blower of telling a false story, despite key congressional testimony supporting the whistle-blower's claims. president trump unleashing his new salvo just after attending fight night at madison square garden. with the impeachment inquiry about to enter a new phase, the whistle-blower now making an offer to republican lawmakers. here's kyra phillips. >> reporter: president trump, always up for a good fight, but not always a fan favorite. booed and cheered at this united federation match in new york city. as he faces his ongoing battle in washington, amid a growing impeachment showdown. speaking with reporters, the president clearly targeting the whistle-blower, who first alerted officials to the phone call with the ukrainian president. >> the whistle-blower should be revealed. the whistle-blower should be revealed. the whistle-blower should be revealed. >> reporter: this, as abc news has learned the whistle-blower's legal team has offered to answer congressional republicans' written questions directly to them under penalty of perjury. bypassing the democrat controlled impeachment process. the whistle-blower's attorney telling us, now we've offered directly to the gop, they have no excuses. some of trump's closest allies on the hill have expressed interest in hearing directly from the anonymous accuser. >> you will have the chance to call witnesses. who do you want to call? >> there are a lot of people. the whistle-blower themself. >> reporter: the house minority leader suggesting that may not be enough. >> i think that individual should come before the committee. >> reporter: trump has been adamant there was no wrongdoing on the phone call. despite accusations he pressured ukraine's president to investigate political rivals in exchange for military aid. >> my phone call was perfecto. it was totally appropriate. >> reporter: this morning, his senior adviser echoed that defense. but left the door open on the possibility that the white house withheld that aid money. >> quid pro quo, yes or no? >> i just said, i don't know whether aid was being held up and for how long. >> kyra, we're entering another week of depositions. congress has their eye set on john bolton, but he's already said he's not coming? >> reporter: that's right. all eyes on the former international security adviser, john bolton. if he appears before congress, he could be the marquee witness in the impeachment probe. however, after investigators summoned him last week, his lawyer said he's not showing up voluntarily. but they would receive a subpoena. i think it's fair to say it's unlikely he'll comply, since his deputy dismissed his subpoena, and they share the same attorney. >> kyra, thank you. now to the race for 2020. the presidential election one year away. many democratic candidates in iowa this weekend. the new national poll showing joe biden still leading with 28%. elizabeth warren rising to 23%. followed by bernie sanders at 17%. and pete buttigieg at 9%, moving ahead of kamala harris. democrats taking aim at each other over medicare for all and how to pay for it. here's rachel scott in iowa tonight. >> reporter: tonight, facing criticism from her rivals, elizabeth warren defending her health care plan, challenging critics to release their own proposals. what is your message to your rivals? >> if somebody has a better plan to deal with the $11 trillion, that families will pay over the next ten years, they should put it out. >> reporter: warren claims taxes will not go up for the middle class under her plan. which pulls more than $20.5 trillion in funds for a ten-year period. by calling for new taxes on the wealthiest americans and corporations. asking employers to pitch in, too. >> the math is certainly controversial. there are variations in the estimates in the trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars. and we don't have to go there to deliver health care to everybody. >> reporter: biden's campaign has called the plan mathematical gymnastics. >> you couldn't even get it passed. >> reporter: bernie sanders admits that taxes would go up under his plan. but says overall health care costs will go down. >> i think we have a better way. a 7.5% payroll tax, which is far more, i think, progressive. >> reporter: this battle being fought in iowa less than 100 days before the caucuses. a new poll shows a four-way race, with buttigieg gaining ground in the hawkeye state. now in a tight matchup with the other three early front-runners. >> the strategy going forward is to leave no stone unturned. to try to reach every iowan. >> still three months out from iowa, but the top tier seeming to emerge. and warren's team seeing some encouraging data points in the latest iowa poll? >> reporter: that's right, elizabeth warren seems to be in a good place heading into this stretch. she's either the first or the second choice for nearly half of the iowa democrats surveyed in the poll. and many of senator sanders' supporters say, if they had to choose a backup, it would be warren. >> rachel, thank you. and next to a dangerous police chase on a busy highway. an officer trying to put a suspect in handcuffs. he then runs away, darting across several lanes of traffic. jumping on vehicles trying to escape. here's zachary kiesch. >> reporter: tonight, our first look at a dangerous chase through albuquerque traffic. police say they found the suspect trying to unlock this white truck outside of a motel in september. officers trying to help quickly learning there's a warrant out for his arrest. he claims it's for his brother. >> i have to ask. do you have a warrant? stand up. >> do i have a warrant? no, i don't. but my brother does. >> maybe that's the issue. so we'll make sure it's your brother. >> reporter: about to be cuffed, romero takes off. running right into oncoming traffic. officers in pursuit cross several lanes of traffic. the suspect then apparently attempts a carjacking. >> get down on the ground! down on the ground! just tried to take over a car. >> reporter: with semis screeching to a halt, romero continues to run. attempting to stop another driver. romero makes a desperate effort to latch on to this pickup truck, before landing on the pavement. finally winding up in handcuffs. he was charged with evading and resisting arrest. charges were dropped, but it's still not clear why that decision was made. tom? >> zachary, thank you. we move on to the murder mystery unfolding in texas. the bodies of a missing couple on a cross-country road trip found buried in a shallow grave on a beach. authorities say the husband and wife were killed, and their rv reportedly stolen and driven to mexico. here's stephanie ramos. >> reporter: tonight, police are on the hunt for a killer, after the bodies of a new hampshire couple were discovered buried in a remote beach in texas. >> two innocent people come here to enjoy the beauty we have, and their lives were taken. >> reporter: police are searching for a person of interest seen on surveillance video driving into mexico in this pickup truck with its trailer. the couple's family says the pair were avid road-trippers and were headed to florida, where they planned to sell christmas trees. >> they're always in contact with the families. so even one day out of contact is strange. >> reporter: police say they set up their trailer october 15th on the beach. authorities say they spotted the truck and trailer at a border crossing in mexico on october 21st. the couple was reported missing on october 23rd, and four days later, the gruesome discovery was made after their cell phone pinged on padre island. their last known location. >> you never think it will be you. and then it is. and it's hard. >> reporter: police have not released the couple's cause of death. tom, they are expected to release more information tomorrow. >> stephanie, thank you. next to the hostage standoff and gunfight in phoenix. police responding to a 911 call, two women held inside a home at gunpoint. after hours of negotiation, the suspect opening fire. the two victims and two officers shot or injured. here's marci gonzalez. >> reporter: tonight, police on the scene of a six-hour hostage standoff in phoenix. leaving several people injured, including two police officers. >> i can just tell you, it was chaotic. >> reporter: the 911 calls coming in around 9:00 p.m. saturday night with reports of a man holding two women at gunpoint inside a home. >> the call was of shots being fired, and people inside the residence that were not being allowed to leave. and there was concern for their safety. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams surrounding the home. officers negotiating for hours before they say it erupted into chaos. both hostages shot along with the suspect and an officer. amid the confusion, a police officer bitten by a police k9. >> we're trying to make sure we're saving people's lives. things happen. >> reporter: we're learning the suspect died from his injuries. we're told the hostages and officers are expected to recover. >> marci, thank you. now to the cold blast of weather moving in to start the week. windchills in the 30s from georgia to maine. and several inches of snow around the great lakes. more than three inches in franklinville, new york. let's get to rob marciano with the forecast. good evening. >> reporter: good evening, tom. after a mild october, the cold air has made it to the east. so lake effect snow season, as you saw, has begun. winter weather advisories from syracuse to watertown. another 3 to 6 inches of snow expected there. and any cold air makes it into snow. the cold air settling into the east. windchills in the morning, near freezing in pittsburgh, cincinnati, down to nashville. and we'll have successive rounds of cold air, the coldest of which will likely be on thursday and friday. >> rob, thank you. the new headline, tesla facing investigation due to several reports of cars bursting into flames. possibly because of its lithium ion battery. tesla also facing a potential lawsuit. here's trevor ault. >> reporter: tonight, tesla facing a potential federal investigation, amid accusations some of its cars burst into flames. the government requesting documents from the company after attorneys representing tesla owners petitioned, saying there's been an alarming number of car fires. the main focus of the probe, its lithium ion batteries. >> there are two components that have to be kept apart from each other. if they contact each other, you get a fire or an explosion. >> reporter: in 2018, several tesla vehicles reportedly caught fire, seemingly out of nowhere. in december, this model "s" flaring up twice. once as it was being towed for a flat tire, and again six hours later. last march, this car bursting into flames in a crash, then reigniting in an impound lot almost a week afterward. the national highway traffic safety administration asking for documents. tesla has called lithium ion battery fires extraordinarily unusual. but they did not return requests for comment. tesla has until november 28th to turn over the requests for information. if they don't, they could face millions in
