Undercover agents let him leave the scene. Authorities later went to his home and informed him that he just purchased cocaine from a federal agent. They did not arrest radel. But told him he would be hearing from them soon. In a statement, the congressman acknowledged the charge but did not specifically mention cocaine. I am profoundly sorry, he said. I struggle with the disease of alcoholism. And this led to an extremely irresponsible choice. Radel recently supported legislation, forcing food stamp recipients to pass a drug test before receiving benefits. He cosponsored a bill, lowering mandatory minimum sentencing for some drug offenses. And his 24yearold son, gus, the troubled attempted murderer, who in the end, killed himself unexpectedly. Authorities believe an earlymorning fight in this remote western virginia mountaintop home, left the father and son battling for life. Deeds and his son, gus, were the only two in the house. It started outside. Im not sure anything happened inside, as far as the altercation. Reporter the elder deeds was stabbed multiple times in the head and chest. His son still alive when authorities arrived, had been shot. State police saying today, it looks like the gunshot was selfinflicted. No problem at all with gus. Hes a supernice kid. Never violent . No. Aplus student. He was a topnotch student. Reporter gus deeds was close to his father. Even quit school temporarily to help with his dads campaign for governor. The Richmond Times dispatch, quoting a Mental Health official saying the boy wasnt kept in custody because there were no beds for him in the entire western part of virginia. This morning, the faa is worried about obese pilots because their weight could cause apnea, leaving them tired. Sleep apnea in obese patients is a common condition. And it results in lack of enough sleep or quality sleep. Reporter thats what happened five years ago, on a go Airlines Flight between islands in hawaii. Both pilots fell asleep and overshot the runway before waking and landing. The captain, according to the ntsb, was later diagnosed with apnea and was obese. This is about passenger safety. It has the same physiological effects as drinking. You dont want a drunk pilot flying your airplane, any more than you would want a pilot who hasnt had appropriate sleep flying your airplane. Reporter the faa Flight Surgeon says obese pilots will have to see a sleep specialist. If diagnosed, they will need cleared for treatment before being able to work. The faa is starting with pilots with a body mass index of 40. But plans to lower that to 30 soon. What does that mean . A sixfoot man with a 40 bmi would wear nearly 300 pounds. And 30 bmi, that same man would weigh 220 pounds. I think pilots will embrace it. Pilots dont want to make mistakes. Reporter this is not just pilots. And b it allows him to testify about their relationship and the problems they were having. Hes crucial. And i think that because hes testifying that you might see her now forced to testify. In connection to this kind of case, where he is giving such specific accounts of their relationship of how it was disintegra disintegrating, his concerns, how others are coming out against her. I needed to focus on myself. When i did things just for me, i was happier. My marriage was better. I was a better mother. And their relationship is more confusing and frustrating for them. And your character, you said you relate to gale because hes such a standup kind of guy. Hes a good guy. A passionate kind of guy. Something i related to in the beginning. Hes constantly standing up for what he believes in. And hes willing to fight for that. For a long time, he kind of is powerless to do anything. And through this one, you get to see little moments of that fight. Oh, yeah. Little moments because catching fire applies to your character. You are always simmering just a little bit. Yeah. Stuffs burning inside of him. Its ready to come out. We had so many of the cast members here. Jennifer lawrence coming tomorrow. And josh was saying yesterday, she tells it like it is. She does. Theres no filter at all with jennifer. Especially if youre having a bad day, shell pounce on that. She find the weakness and exploit it to the entire set. The way you are its apparent you have a real friendship. And theres a chemistry there and a trust there. Does that help when youre on screen together . Absolutely. Shooting Something Like this, where youre shooting a lot of quite serious stuff, its nice to keep things light on set. And enjoy who youre there with. And jennifer is someone who just really cares about the people around her. And she has a big heart. And she loves making movies. And shes amazing at it. And you really couldnt ask for a better costar than her. Shes great. Speaking of keeping things light on the set, you have a lot of fans. And we asked them to ask you questions. And one of them wanted to ask you this is sassy. I love this. Who was the biggest prankster on the catching fire set . Biggest prankster . You know what . Everyone has their moments. Its when were all together that its hard to get anything done. Weve been shooting the third one the last couple of months. We have had scenes with woody, Philip Seymour hoffman and julianne moore. Great cast. When were in a room together, its like children playing. Were lucky to have someone like francis, who is patient with that kind of stuff. It is hard to get work done. I can see where it would be. The costumes except for me. I wear basic stuff in the film. But someone like elizabeth banks, she gets to wear crazy stuff. And have a lot of fun with it. Someone else wanted to know this is from hazel. She wants to know which scene was the best to record for both of the movies . For me . Yes. A lot of great things. I got whipped for three days, which is good and bad, if youre into that kind of thing. Whipping. Are you . No, im not. But it was an interesting couple of days. And you know, you have to have someone like woody on set to keep that live. Hes the person that keeps it fun and entertaining. And same with jennifer, as well. Its hard to pick through all of the great scenes. We just had people magazine, sexiest man alive. And you and your brother. It is sweet and sexy. You and your brother, chris, who is starring in that little movie, thor. You talk about family. How important family is to you. Absolutely. We come from a great family. My parents, most supportive parents. And were able to dream big and have the support to kind of live it through. And you know, we feel very fortunate to come from parents like that. And i was with the youngest brother, i have two older brothers, theyre my biggest inspirations. And i think i wouldnt be doing what im doing if it wasnt for theme. They dont caramelize. What we want to do, is we want to get the sugar out of them. Now, we take the brussels sprouts and some olive oil. Am i wrong to think you see them on menus everywhere. Once upon a time, this was the one vegetable that our parents couldnt get us to eat. Now, you cant get enough. Now, you can get them in salads. Chopping them and doing all kinds of things with them. Once these get you want medium heat. And no flipping. Were going to add the onions to this. George, if you add the pancetta for me in there. Please. Got it. Just beautiful. What were going to do is just so easy. You can either do this, to continue on a stove. Or you can put them in the oven for five or ten minutes. You can get them to this stage. Take them out. And you can put them in a casserole for five to ten minutes. Okay. 350. I see a Roasted Butternut squash. Heres another one. Butternut squash. We cleaned it and roasted it with salt and pepper. Cut it in half . You can add root vegetables. Parsnips, carrots. I like to add some carrot and parsnip to that. And we have a little creme fresh. You can use sour cream. And i love the beat salad. You take tinfoil, roast the beats. Maybe 40 minutes. Clean them with a little paper towel. Take the skin off. Cut them in half.
