This girl, dancing against the door. Knocking over into candles. The video now revealed as a hoax. How jimmy kimmel fooled the world. This girl is on fire what do you mean it was a hoax . I cant dare you say . I know. But you hear the girls on fire. Well, the guy was on fire last night at the u. S. Open. Rafael nadal, winning the second u. S. Open in his career. And the power of both of those players. 13 grand slam titles. So between the champions, thats 30 between he and serena. I admit to togglinging back and forth. There were fantasy concerns in the nfl world. Half of america now remembers while they hate fantasy football. It was a reminder. We have a lot to get to. But we start with the support from russia, to put syrias chemical weapons under International Control and destroyed. This coming as president obama prepares to address the nation today. Abcs Jonathan Karl has the latest from washington. Good morning, jon. Reporter good morning, robin. With the president seemingly on the verge of defeat in congress, the president s allies are hoping they just got a lifeline in the form of that offer from russia, to get syria to turn over its chemical weapons. As the president prepares to address the nation tonight, in a series of interviews monday, including with abcs diane sawyer, he opened the door to avoiding a strike. If Bashar Al Assad yields control of his chemical weapons, to international authority, is military strike on pause . Absolutely, if, in fact, that happened. If we can resolve this without military conflict, that is my great preference. Reporter the white house is promising to pursue the idea of brokering a deal with syria, but the president is still trying to convince congress to give him the authority to launch a military strike. My hope is, by people understanding whats at stake, and the limited but significant tools we can to address it, they will be supportive. Reporter threat of force, the white house says, is absolutely essential to getting anything from syria. Youre not going to start bombing syria while youre negotiating with the russians, are you . In terms of military action, were engaged with congress at this point. So, while we have the discussions, with the russians and others, we will continue in the effort with congress. Reporter this morning, white house Officials Say the president still intends to go before the nation tonight and to make the case for congress to pass the resolution, authorizing him to take military action against syria. But ive got to tell you, robin, the more the white house has made the case on this, the more it has lost support in congress. Im told right now, that the president would lose not only in the house, but in the senate, as well, on this vote. The poll numbers are reflecting that, as well. You referred to it just a moment ago about the russians to be a lifeline. Is it possible they could step in here . Its possible. But theres a lot of skepticism here. In another interview, the president said he was taking the russian offer with a grain of salt. So, yes, a possibility. But not an overabundance of hope in this proposal right now. Jon, thanks so much. Were going to see more from you. Abc news will carry the president s address to the nation live tonight at 9 00 p. M. Eastern. Well certainly be watching. Were going to turn, now, as we mentioned today, the peak day of hurricane season. And wouldnt you know it, three big storms brewing right now in the atlantic. Ginger zee is tracking them all. Good morning to you, ginger. Good morning, guys. Its been so slow. We almost broke a record this hurricane season, by not having a hurricane. Had we made it to late tomorrow without having one, it would have broken a record. But its not going to happen. I think humberto is going to do it. Gabrielle, going over bermuda tonight. Its a Tropical Storm right now. There are Tropical Storm warnings in place. And were watching another one just south of the yucatan with a 60 shot of becoming a tropical cyclone, that would be ingrid, in the next five days. Here are the paths for you. Over bermuda goes gabrielle. Doesnt affect the united states. But brushes over nova scotia. This thing strengthens into a category two. A ridge builds in and starts to kill it. Either way, more active. Certainly firing up. Well be watching this and have the nations weather coming up. Thank you. Now, to a new brush with the law for George Zimmerman. Acquitted of murder two months ago in the shooting death of trayvon martin. His estranged wife calling the cops, claiming he was threatening her and her father. Matt gutman has the latest from lake mary, florida. Good morning, matt. Reporter good morning, robin. Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened here. We do know that George Zimmerman was put in handcuffs again. It was about a domestic dispute. Eight Police Cruisers were sent here. They had their guns drawn, Ballistic Shields ready. Once again, George Zimmerman finds himself under investigation by florida police. This time, after his estranged wife called 911. I dont know what hes capable of. Im really, really scared. Reporter the 29yearold zimmerman was surrounded by eight tactical units, after an altercation with his wife, shellie, who just filed for divorce. Hes in his car. He continually has his hand on his gun. Hes continually threatening all of us. Hes saying step closer. Step closer and what . And hes going to shoot us. Reporter shellie told police the incident began when she and her father went to the lake mary home she shared with george, to pick up her things. He punched my dad in the nose. My dad has a mark on his face. And took my ipad out of my hands and slashed it and cut it with a pocket knife. Reporter moments later, the police arrived. Prepared for a hostage situation, guns drawn, and carrying Ballistic Shields. Dad, get behind the car or something. I dont know if hes going to start shooting at us. Reporter zimmerman, seen here in the plaid shirt and sunglasses, was questioned by police. But later released. Were trying to figure out who touched whom. Whose allegations belong to whom. Reporter this morning, the zimmermans are pointing fingers at each other. But shellie has declined to press charges. George zimmermans attorney, mark omeara says shellie has walked back from what she told 911 operators. No threatening with any firearm. I think there may have been some pushing and touching. Reporter since George Zimmerman was acquitted of murder this summer in the shooting death of 17yearold trayvon martin, the couples life has stayed in the headlines. Shellie pleaded guilty to charges of perjury last month. Since july, george has been stopped for speeding twice. I stopped you for speed. Sorry. Reporter but this morning, he could be facing much more than a traffic ticket. Police tell me that zimmerman has given them surveillance tapes from this house. Theyre going to go through them. Unless they find something extraordinary, they say, their hands are tied because shellie refused to press charges. And hearing Shellie Zimmermans 911 call, absolutely chilling. Absolutely. Were going to turn to dan abrams for more, here. Our chief legal correspondent. And, dan, as robin mentioned, it was a chilling phone call to hear. This really lit the social media world on fire yesterday. But where this stands right now in the investigation, what happens next . Its kind of amazing, right . This is the guy thats been in the most highprofile case in a long time. Hes pulled over twice for speeding. Helps a different motorist, is in the news for that. And now, in the news again for another incident. This is a guy that needs to stay out of the spotlight in any way, shape, or form, if he can. Okay, so what happens now . You heard matt gutman say the authorities hands are tied. And the authorities keep saying or suggesting that because she doesnt want to file charges, their hands are tied. Thats not true. If they decide they have enough evidence, if they feel that a neighbor or a videotape or Something Else gives them the evidence they need, they could move forward without Shellie Zimmerman cooperating. So they could arrest him still . Absolutely. It happens in Domestic Violence cases all the time. With that said, it sounds like in the context of this case, they dont have enough evidence to move forward. It does seem theres a bit of a he said she said. They dont have what they need to make them comfortable to move forward. I dont expect thats going to happen. I think we can all agree, best to avoid the spotlight. Were going to look at the other top stories developing this morning, right now. For that, we turn to amy robach. Good morning, josh and robin. Good morning, everyone. We begin with a real scare for people across the southeast. Nasa confirming bright lights and loud booms heard south of birmingham, alabama. And across two other states last night. There was no audible reaction to the person taking the video, that makes some people believe maybe it was a hoax. You think . I dont know. Where was jimmy kimmel last night . Thanks, amy. Now, to the confession by the drunk driver thats gone viral. The man who posted that video is expected to be in court today, after turning himself in to police. Spending the night behind bars. Abcs linsey davis has that story for us. Reporter Matthew Cordle is waking up this morning in a columbus, ohio, jail cell, because he wants to be. Cordles lawyer says while it wasnt intended to get him a more lenient sentence, they hope it will. What matt has done has showed integrity and character. And i worry that if maximum sentence is imposed, its going to send the wrong message to people. Reporter cordle was under investigation. And this morning, prosecutors say, the wrong message would be a sentence that doesnt take into account his 0. 19 blood alcohol content at the time of the crash, more than double the state limit. We probably will be asking the judge to impose the maximum sentence. Im begging you, please dont drink and drive. Reporter in the meantime, cordles attorneys say they hope to get him out on bail. We think he can do a lot more good in the next 30 days out than he would in the county jail. Continuing to raise awareness about drinking and driving. Reporter the prosecutor was quick to remind us that cordle was a suspect before his videotaped confession. At his arraignment this afternoon, his attorneys say he will initially enter a plea of not guilty. They say thats just a formality. That hes committed to, as he says in his video, taking full responsibility for his actions. It will be very interesting to see if they get him out on bail today. That will be. Theres some people that are you know the fact that so much praise is being heaped on him. Its great hes taking responsibility. But as they said, it was after the fact. Theres been a lot of mixed response to this. Well see what happens. Linsey, thank you. A tough one to parse to be sure. Were going to turn, now, to a broadcast exclusive. Says it interviewed 64 former players along with an unnamed former assistant coach who reportedly said, i knew this day was coming. Today is the day. It was a matter of time.
