When a driver loses control. Trapped him and engulfed in flames. How he walked away, racing in the same car just 30 minutes later. And good morning, america. The crisis in syria continues to grow. So many developments right now, as that deadline looms for the u. N. Inspectors to leave syria. There they are. Theyre heading from their hotel this morning, to a site near damascus, where one of the Chemical Attacks took place. They are expected to finish their work tomorrow in syria and leave the country on saturday. The u. N. Secretarygeneral is saying the team needs time to finish its investigation. And this, of course, as the white house says it will brief members of Congress Later today on plans for a possible strike. We have full coverage from the middle east, to washington, starting with abcs jim avila at the white house. Jim, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, elizabeth. It is a huge day here. As the Obama Administration makes its case to congress, the nation and the world, that a military attack on syria is justified. The president , shutting himself in the west wing today. No public events, no public appearances. Just a laser focus as he meets with his National Security team. President obama has a big decision to make. His Intelligence Team has decided syria has done the unthinkable, killed its own people and threatened the rest of the world, including americas National Security with deadly, poisonous gas. You are not only breaking International Norms and standards of decency, but youre also creating a situation where u. S. National interests are affected. And that needs to stop. Reporter the president telling pbs, in his first extensive comments on the syrian attack, that he plans on sending a strong message to Bashar Al Assad i have no interest in an openended conflict in syria. But we do have to make sure, when countries break International Norms on weapons like chemical weapons that could threaten us, that theyre held accountable. Reporter the white house is expected to release to Congress Today or tomorrow, a comprehensive Intelligence Report from the cia and nsa, justifying American Military action. But some members of congress, including speaker of the house, john boehner, who wrote a letter to the president , demanding answers, believe obama would be overstepping his powers, if he launched an attack without consulting them. Theyre allied to known terrorist organizations, that in the past have targeted the united states. Then, there is a prospect, a possibility, in which chemical weapons that can have devastating effects, could be directed at us. Reporter because most of congress is still on recess until labor day, this teleconference this briefing tonight will happen by teleconference, at 6 00, as abc news has learned. And the president says, any attack, any military option, will be limited. George . Okay, jim. Thanks. Lets go to the war zone, now, where the u. S. Navy is positioning ships in the mediterranean. The entire middle east onedge. Abcs chief Foreign Correspondent terry moran in beirut this morning. The warships are in place. Congress getting briefed. Inspectors getting out. Everything falling in place for a strike. Reporter it certainly is, george. The sense this morning out here, though, is that the march to war has slowed a step or so, just over the last 24 hours, because the Obama Administrations made clear for all of the president s tough talk, americas not going to do this alone. Britain and other key allies have said they want to wait for the u. N. Inspectors to get out. As you said, thats not going to happen until this weekend. And more broadly, theres a question in the air here and in washington and other capitals, what exactly is an attack supposed to accomplish . What are the chances of success . What are the risks of failure . Theres no question that war is in the air. But the march has slowed. Theres a sense of a pause. For a moment here. Another big question is, what kind of retaliation would there be if there is a strike . And what do you hear about the mood in damascus . I know thousands have come across the border from syria, into lebanon, where you are. Reporter no question, george, that the people of damascus and of syria, who have endured two years of grinding war, are bracing themselves for an attack. There are people getting out of town. There is a rallying, perhaps governmentsponsored, around president assad. People marching in the streets, honking their horns. And were hearing that, at military bases and government offices, they are clearing out. They are waiting. We just reopened our beirut bureau, down in lebanon. This is terrys first big assignment as chief Foreign Correspondent. Lets get the days other top stories from paula faris in for josh. We begin with video just coming in from a massive explosion at this oil rig just north of houston. Flames soaring into the air. That fire burning all night. Now, the good news, all workers have been accounted for. No word, yet, exactly what set off that fire. And crews fighting that stubborn wildfire near yosemite, now have a predator drone in their arsenal thats going to help identify hot spots. It could take three weeks to get the fire under control. The smoke triggering air quality warnings 100 miles away. And the Army Psychiatrist who opened fire on fellow soldiers at ft. Hood has been sentenced to death. A military jury took just two hours to decide major nidal hasans fate, for killing 13 people. Hasan said he was trying to protect muslims overseas. And here at home, muslims are outraged after learning that new york police have designated all mosques as terrorist organizations. Thats going to allow police to spy on them, even with no evidence of wrongdoing. The aclu is suing. However, new yorks Police Commissioner denies unfairly targeting people, saying police only follow leads. And a billiondollar Spy Satellite has been launched into space over california, taking off on this massive 23storiestall rocket. The satellite, reportedly so powerful, it can pinpoint the make and model of a car hundreds of miles below. How is that for accuracy . And this wild scene in moscow. A train comes barreling through a crossing. Plowing into traffic. One driver hit, in critical condition. The crossing lights, apparently werent working. Thats everybodys worst nightmare. In south carolina, a woman survived this fiery crash, just hours after her car burst into flames, a fire technician just happened to be driving by. And he just happened to have 18 fire extinguishers in his van. Police pulled that woman to safety. Finally, you think your coworkers are good at pulling off a prank . Check out this one. A guys heading to his desk. Notices pandemonium in the hallway. Then, he realizes, its a dinosaur. His reaction hes freaked out. It was someone dressed in a dinosaur costume. Thats one of the best office jokes of alltime. Thats kind of mean. I think its funny. That was exceptionally weird. Wait, he thought there was actually a dinosaur in the building . In the building. Yes. They look so real. We had them on the show. Just wait. See other people running and screaming, follow suit. Thanks so much, paula. Lets bring in abc news senior medical contributor, dr. Jennifer ashton, to talk about this perspective. What do you make of all the buzz . My midwife, any obstetrician, my woman who has ever been pregnant, will say, its not a picnic. It is not for the feint of heart. And i chalk this up to another social stigma against women. Why should all women be expected to love being pregnant . Stop the madness. You know . I had one great. And one not so great. Nine months, it was misera e miserable. You should have heard her during the piece. Ali had a very tough pregnancy. She was in bed for months. I had to i have jestational asthma. I have no problems with it when im not pregnant. We shouldnt get down on women for saying, im miserable. The pressure of saying, i love how i feel and love my body. Sometimes, its miserable. The whole thing. A week later, were back how many times do we talk about an actor gaining 25, 50 pounds for a role . And it makes frontpage news. Women when they gain 50 pounds over 10 months, no one applauds them. Because theyre growing a human being inside. Not doing it for a role. For the first time, is there anything thats going to let them know whats ahead for them . Is there any signs of your body . Good question. No. Every woman will have her own experience. And not liking pregnancy does not make you a bad mother. It doesnt like you a she devil. Its your experience. And we need to be a little more accepting. It is all over when she has the baby. Lets say that. Jen ashton, thanks for weighing in on this topic.
