He was having a routine physical exam and they found it in one of the arteries that supplies blood to his heart because they did a stress test and then a c. T. Scan of his heart. When they found that, they took him yesterday morning to have a stent placed. Look at this video. What they found was a blockage there in the heart. They inserted a catheter through his leg to that yellow area. The balloon opened it up. And they left behind a little metal stent. Let me show you what it looks like. This is the metal stent. It looks like the spring in a pen. Thats right. Thats whats keeping his artery open. You mentioned a stress test. I think a lot of people at home are saying, i have a physical. I dont have a stress test in my physical. Where did that yeah. The information here doesnt all add up. His staff said he had no symptoms. At first, mcdonough says, the fire in yarnell seemed ordinary to the hot shot team as they prepared to move in. We were able to see the fire and see what it was doing. Thats when our superintendent and the captain asked me to be the lookout. Reporter that would be the assignment that separated mcdonough from the others and save his life. He was stationed here. Reporter tonights massive powerball, worth a cool 420 million, is just the latest in a string of historymaking jackpots and could still grow larger as more people line up to play. Lottery officials admit to cashing in on the frenzy. In the case of powerball, ticket prices doubled from 1 to 2 in the beginning of last year. A price increase that doubled the amount going into the jackpot. As robin recently pointed out while guesthosting live with kelly michael, because the pots get so large so quickly, some wont bat an eye until it gets to triple digit millions. Its interesting, people say i wont pay for 50 million. Oh, 300, now im in. Reporter case in point, gloria mckenzie. She made International Headlines in june, a month after winning the 590 million powerball. But chances are, youve never heard of Patricia Chandler even though she won the powerball that same month. We continue, now, with the american tourist making International Headlines after he accidentally broke the finger off a statue that is centuries old, violating museum rules. You all know it. Look, dont touch. This morning, outrage at a Florence Museum after an american tourist snapped the finger off a 600yearold marble statue of the virgin mary. According to reports, the man was measuring the finger and comparing it to his own hand when he accidentally broke the work of art. A Security Guard spotted him. But it was too late. He was later confronted by police. Timothy verden, museum spokesman, said that the fundamental rules for visiting a museum had been forgotten. That is, do not touch the works. Florence police tell abc news that the culprit is a connecticut man, born in missouri, with the initials p. B. , and he was apologetic when questioned. He is reportedly an emergency surgeon at a connecticut hospital. And this isnt the first time an accident has befallen museum treasures. In 2010, a picasso painting worth 130 million was ripped when a clumsy art lover tripped and fell against it at the metropolitan museum of art. And casino mogul steve winn ripped his picasso masterpiece when his elbow went through it. The 1932 masterpiece was in the process of being sold when he damaged it. It has since been repaired and sold for 155 million. So, the statue can be repaired thankfully. Italian prosecutors will decide whether charges will be filed against the man and if he will be fined. Remember, look. Dont touch. A surgeon. Hes a surgeon, ironically. Do something with the finger. Lara, thank you. I know. I know. Had to be an american. Dude. Why did you have to were sorry. Is he breathing . Is he breathing . Hes breathing, yes, maam. The ambulance is here. Reporter this isnt the first time the grammy Award Winning singer has found his familys hardship making headlines. Just last year he was forced to face the death of his former stepson, kyle glover, when the 11yearold died in an awful jet ski accident. In the days before, the singer spoke with robin about the joys of parenthood. What are you hoping to impart on them . No one knows your child like you do. And its taking the time to actively be there. Its a day in day out process. Im actively doing it every day that i possibly can. And being the father to them that my father was unable to be to me. Reporter what happened to usher v could happen to anyone. And it has. The Consumer ProductSafety Commission reports that nearly 80 people were injured in pool drains over a 10year period and 12 have died, most of them children. In this government safety video shows how strong those pool drains can be. Experts say the solution is simple a drain cover to keep a childs air or arms out of harms way. At public pools theyre now required. There could not be an entrapment. Reporter this morning, its not clear if the pool had a safety cover over the drain or how long the child was under. Ushers divorce was a bitter one. He sued for custody of his two children and won. But after this accident, were hearing all kinds of reports that his exwife has called for an emergency custody hearing this week. Robin . Okay, steve. Were going to bring in abc news chief Legal Affairs anchor, dan abrams. We heard steve talking about public pools. What happened yesterday was in a private pool. Theres legislation to help prevent this from happening. Theres a federal law that applies to public pools or pools at hotels, et cetera. And it was specifically intended to prevent this type of accident. Meaning, a child getting caught in the suction of a drain. And theres really two main purposes behind the law. Number one is to ensure that the drains are the proper type of drains. And number two, to make sure theres a way to turn off the system. One of the problems that weve seen in case after case, is someone gets caught in a suction and theres no way to turn off the pool. And so, thats another one of the requirements in this new federal law. And knowing where that switch is, especially if you have a home pool. And if you do have a pool in your backyard, you have some covers here. I mean, how do you know . The most important issue, as you can see on these, is all of the new drains these days are made domed as opposed to flat. You saw on the video we were just watching, that a lot of the older drains were flat. As a result, they can get completely covered by someones hand or hair or Something Else like that. The idea behind having the domed covers is that you can protect against that. But one of the most important things is making sure theres upkeep. Meaning, you could have a perfectly good drain cover, like this one, which is domed, and it can be broken or in disrepair. And thats a really big problem. Its not just having the right equipment, its also making sure that the upkeep is there, as well. Great things to keep in mind, dan. Lets get back to sam with the weather. Sam . You just never want to turn your back, not even for a minute. Not even for a minute when theyre around that pool. Lets talk about this video. This is what it looks like just outside of tucson, by the way. You see this picture and you know the sun is heating things up. The clouds are cooling things off a little bit. But these clouds are carrying lightning. Thats what folks are concerned about here. Even though we got the cloud cover, its cool. Hasnt been 80 in how long in Southern California . A lot of folks are chatting about that. This pattern thats kept it cool and cloudy. What this does here is kick off the thunderstorms across the desert mountains. And thunderstorms arent carrying rain. Theyre triggering lightning. Thats going on west. Heres what weve got going on east. Some clouds and rain getting in. Philly is the line to where all of the heavier rain gets in. Starting tomorrow, that rain will work up towards new york and boston. Maybe even later tonight. But might squeeze out a dry day in the extreme northeast. Good morning. Im mike nicco. Drizzle this morning but sunshine this afternoon. I tried to think of the most extreme escape that was ever done and that was it. This time i did it to promote a book i authored, escape or die. An escape artist unlocks the secret of escaping death. Unlock the secret for me. How do we train for this . 25 years ago, its not like, i remember how to do that. How in the world are you training for this . As an escape artist, im always escaping. Were going to turn to a book that all parents with kids that play sport want to know about. Its called the sport gene. I talked to the author, david epstein, about his headlinegrabbing book. It includes whether nature or nurture makes the best athlete. And whether sommet nick groups are better suited to succeed at athletics. From kenya, were used to thinking of all kenyans being great runners. When i visited. Its one tiny tribe that makes up 10 to 11 of the runners there. And one thing they have their ancestry, low latitude. They have extremely long limbs, proportion to their body size. Thats an evolutionary adaptation for cooling. What about the taboo subject that certain ethnic groups are predisposed. More theres an evolutionary fluke that allowed people to get by, that can aplied athletically. And theyre worse app other things. You and i, europeans, have longer torsos. Thats better for swimming. He has extremely short legs. Michael helps is 64 and has the same inseam of the guy thats 59. And a lot of people watching at home, the idea of the specialized athlete. The kid who is playing the club, yearround, as opposed to someone of my vintage. Somebody who played all sports seasonally. What did you find makes the best athlete . Theres some evidence in certain parts, gymnastics. Golf. Other sports, acquiring a range of skills through your teen years, benefits athletes later on. Look at a guy like steve nash. Didnt get a basketball until he was 33 years old. The best thing to do is to sample. Find the best fit for your unique genome. And look at the mid teen years. Figure out your skill set. And go find the sport that emphasizes it. Its a fascinating book. We could spend hours on it. It is the sports gene, by a quick programming note before we go.
