We got believe that folks in philadelphia, new jersey, all the way to pennsylvania, never thought they would beat the rain totals in hurricane floyd 1999. Since then they havent either and in one line of storms that continually pounded that area 8 inches of rain, so they slammed that record. These are the pictures and were just seeing some of them coming out of the area because of that heavy rainfall and these are the totals. A lot of that, that big eightinch number. 7 1 2 inches of rain there came from 4 00 to 7 00 in the evening so in one big hit, very heavy rain and lots of consequences. In a frightening afternoon battle between a bus and flash flooding, the water wins. Take a look at these from dolan springs, arizona. A tour bus carrying 33 people from the grand canyon to vegas, the bus swept 300 yards on its side in a torrent of rain and mud. Some areas of the southwest hammered with almost 2 inches of rain in just 15 minutes. The water levels rose and started pushing the bus down the wash. Basically it overturned. Reporter remarkably, everyone on board managed to crawl out the windows safely. On the east coast, sudden surges of rain inundating North Carolina roads over the weekend. Whenever i woke up i could only see the top of the car and i was like, oh, my god. Reporter and in philadelphia, a new record. More than 8 inches of rain falling in a day smashing the rainfall record from Tropical Storm floyd. Operations at Philadelphia International airport came to a grinding halt when the power went out paralyzing air traffic for several hours. Meanwhile, in nearby new jersey, the heavy rains leading to blinding conditions, cars stuck in kneedeep water for hours. Now the big story is the tropical pacific storm thats kind of bearing down on hawaii that robin talked about at the top of the show. So, it is not an iniki and did a lot of damage but this is a tropical system that will bring heavy wind and rain to the nort covering the big island. Our Neal Karlinsky is there right now. Just to give you a sense of the mood, staff at the hotel has been telling people to absolutely stay off the roads all day today unless absolutely necessary, telling them just how unusual this is for the hawaiian islands. Again, theyre expecting bands of 10 to 12 inches and storm surge and also mud slides and, again, thats not just for here in hilo but, also, those popular tourist destinations like maui and even into honolulu. And theres no doubt that there will be some kind of damage to that area with the tropical system crossing almost right over the middle of the island and heading across the rest of the island. His two predecessors, were far more conservative and caused controversy with their statements about the gay community. The cyanide is the biggest issue. His lab orders it on a credit card they never use. No one has any idea why theyre about buying 250 grams and the lab had reason to Research Anything with cyanide and then they go and they find this 250gram cyanide container that had just been ordered right before she died and 8. 3 grams are missing. So the fact that she died of a cyanide overdose, the fact that he had just ordered cyanide and that cyanide was missing from the order that he had just made in and of itself is a problem and throw on that all the other allegations, maybe having an affair, that she was getting ready to end the relationship. The fact of the hospital, when he called 911, that he told them that she may have been suffering for up to ten minutes before he actually got in touch. I mean there are all these other circumstances which lead to more questions. This is already a powerful case. Questions of where he was in florida driving back and actually apprehended in west virginia. He says he was just driving back because he was going to turn himself in. But there was, you know, an allout search for him at this point and basically interwent through one toll booth. They caught his license plate. The authorities were called in. He was pulled over and arrested so his lawyer says, yes, he was turning himself in, but, you know, usually you want to figure out an easier way to do that. I would think so. See him in court today. In the wake of the Asiana Airlines crash, the faa is changing the way some pilots fly into San Francisco international airport. Federal aviation officials are advising all Foreign Airlines this morning to start using a gps system when landing at sfo. The concern is over pilots flying whats known as visual approaches like the asiana pilots did july 6th, where flight 214 crashed, killing three and injuring 180. The faa says it has noticed a recent increase in aborted landings by some carriers that were flying visual approaches into the airport. See how the monday morning commute is going. Heres leyla gulen. Mike, boy, this is was written in memory and in honor of a dear friend of you both. Heidi armitage passed away after battling Breast Cancer for just a few months and this is really some inspiration to draw from for your first novel. Incredible and its really not her story. What i was moved by when she was diagnosed which was in february of 2009. Three others, my wife one of them and two others. Not just the person battling, the most important thing but then its the support system that comes around them. That was so moving and i was so inspired by the way i saw stace and her friends around her. Raise people up collectively through their hardships. Its really not about cancer or about dying. Its about living and celebrating life. If you listen to you in the mornings and know you personally, this is a duo. You are a partnership so he wanted to take a shot after his first novel again but do it in memory of heidi, what was your reaction . I was completely honored, of course, but the book is actually written from a female perspective and i thought, you have got to be kidding. Youre a guy. You cant write from a female perspecti perspective. He did. I put together a threewoman focus group of which is. It. Ace was one of them. No 28yearold woman would use the word blouse. Whatever i got right i got right thanks to them. What was the struggle you come from a literary world. Yeah. You grew up in a literary world so maybe you wanted to do it, but, boy. It wasnt as easy as writing from a male perspective but at the end of the day were all facing the same challenge, one as a parent and one a young single person. Im a parent and was once a young single person. You had veto power, however, i understand. I know heidi was inspiration and i read an he say you wrote about her. She wanted to be sexy to the very end but you were still you had final say over some copy, what went in and what did not. Well, i was very specific and said no one wants to hear you talk about sexy. I wont even try to. What did you make of the three characters. There is a character who chooses not to go into treatment at all. Heidi was a fighter. I understand the character brookbank. You had a hard time personally with brooks existence but understood for the novel it was an important story to tell. You know, such an individual choice. But i did. I struggled with that and we talked about that because i said, no, no, no. That cant happen. Everyone has to fight because heidi was such a fighter but i think what it comes down to it its the individual that matters and what youre most comfortable doing and some women to choose to do this and you have to support them whether my choice or not. Mike, you mentioned here and at the show it takes a village and what a wonderful, wonderful book. Just want to make sure were donating 100 of the proceeds from this to the v foundation, so all of the money we get is going to Breast Cancer, so, you know, its not a charitable endeavor.
