getting cozy over karaoke. has harry finally met his match with this stunning singer? wow. many of us just saw harry's new flame for the first time. >> yeah. can't wait for that story. >> that's coming up. a lot of news today. >> that's right. you see our reaction. good morning, everyone. we have a lot to get to this morning. so many people on-edge right now, as north korea counts down to a rocket launch. and new details emerging about how far it could go. we're going to have the latest on that. >> could happen as early as today. and, boy, this presidential race is heating up so fast. ann romney right there, forced into the fray last night. it's all part of the big battle over women voters. she went to twitter to defend her choice to be a stay-at-home mom. we'll get to that. first, sam champion on the earthquake. >> remember, just yesterday. we were talking about two earthquakes in indonesia that came up to the 8 category. and a series of five aftershocks. yesterday, more news of a powerful earthquake in mexico. it was in the range of a 6 or a 7 range. they kept adjusting it down. we found out there were 86 earthquakes of 2.5 or higher in the last 24-hour period. that's not unprecedented. but it's unusual enough to have geologists and scientists talking about it. we look at where the active and most of the earthquakes were, around the ring of fire we hear so much about. this is the zone, well, most of the earthquakes happen here. 75% of the active and unactive volcanos are around this area. but this is not really what's going on. the earth is a series of plates that kind of grind into each other and slide into each other around the country. the indonesian earthquakes had nothing to do with the earthquakes in the mexico area. but it will take months of evaluating before we truly understand. but what they are saying, if you live in an earthquake zone, you need to be prepared because these things happen in clusters and groups. >> i know you said it's not unprecedented. but 86 sounds like a lot. >> it is a lot. >> in 24 hours. thanks, sam. let's go to josh and the north korea missile launch. >> a lot of people in the world is on edge. we begin with that news today. the final countdown is on to the rocket launch in north korea. today, we're learning new details just how far the rocket could reach once it is airborne. martha raddatz joins us later with the latest. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, josh. this launch could take place any moment. and there's a lot of anxiety here about it in washington. and in the region. the north koreans have a command center ready to go. airlines have changed flight routes to get out of the way of the missile. this is their trajectory. the missile will be launched off west coast of north korea, and u.s. officials expect it to head south-southeast, passing near taiwan, then japanese territory, over the philippines then the waters off northern australia. the u.s. and others have radar and anti-missile ships in the region in case something goes wrong. this is a long-range missile that could be capable of reaching the u.s. but the biggest concern this morning is what comes next? u.s. officials believe that north korea will conduct another nuclear test. this time possibly with a uranium device. that would tell the u.s. there is a secret uranium facility somewhere in north korea. josh? >> high-level brinksmanship. martha raddatz, thanks for that in washington. cleanup crews are being deployed into the gulf of mexico after reports of a large oil slick, southeast of new orleans. shell oil says the slick stretches for roughly 13 miles, between 2 major production sites. the oil is believed to be leaking from a damaged well, which shell does not operate. but the company says it is taking all precautions. and the government is suing apple and five major publishers for allegedly conspiring to rip you off on ebooks. the justice department claims the companies schemed together to fight price discounts by amazon. three of the publishers have already settled the case. but critics now say the lawsuit gives amazon a monopoly, which could result in higher prices over the long term. and if you didn't get enough sleep last night -- i'm looking at everybody's direction on this set. a new study finds that getting less than 5 1/2 hours per night can cause the average person -- this is bad news, kids -- to gain 12 pounds over a course of a year. they found that disruptive sleep patterns dramatically slow your body's metabolism, and spike your sugar levels, increasing your risk for diabetes. >> especially if you get that bowl of cereal. >> and those sugar levels. >> wow. >> i thought the camera just added ten pounds. >> it's a freshman 15. freshman 15. george zimmerman, behind bars this morning, after turning himself in. it's been six weeks since he allegedly shot -- shot and killed 17-year-old trayvon martin. abc's matt gutman has been on this case from the beginning. and he's in sanford, florida, again with the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, robin. in just a couple of hours, sim zimmerman will be arraigned in the courthouse behind me. appearing before a judge for the first time. this follows the dramatic day when second-degree murder charges were filed. much different than anybody anticipated. and zimmerman appeared out of thin air. this morning, after weeks of hiding, george zimmerman is an inmate here at the seminole county jail. facing up to life in prison. he met his attorney, mark o'mara, for the first time overnight. hours earlier, in what was a carefully choreographed maneuver, he turned himself in in jacksonville. >> mr. zimmerman turned himself in. and by turning himself in was arrested on the capius that had already been issued. >> reporter: special prosecutor angela corey, stunned a small crowd gathered for her announcement and a nation watching. >> we filed an information charging george zimmerman with murder in the second degree. a capias has been issued for his arrest. >> reporter: court filings accuse of second-degree murder suspect, of acting in a dangerous manner to another. quote, depraved mind regardless of human life. zimmerman, who appeared significantly thinner in this booking photo, faces a minimum of 25 years if convicted for the shooting of trayvon martin on february 26th. he claimed self-defense, saying that martin was the aggressor. in the 48 hours before his arrest, a frenzy of activity from zimmerman. launched this website, with a link to donations. and seemed to have dumped his own lawyers. >> he's not returning my e-mails. he won't even give me a collect call. >> reporter: hearing the news in sanford, people cheered. and watching it unfold from washington, trayvon martin's parents. >> we want nothing more, nothing less. we just wanted an arrest and we got it. >> the first time we marched, i looked to the sky. and i just told myself, when i walk, i will walk by faith. >> reporter: and we've learned that zimmerman has undergone a battery of physical and mental health tests. his attorney this morning will seek some sort of reasonable bail. because of all of the death threats against george zimmerman, his security will remain a significant concern. george? >> thanks, matt. for more on this, now, we're joined by george zimmerman's new attorney, mark o'mara. thanks for joining us. the second-degree murder charge, the strongest one angela corey could bring without a grand jury, surprised a lot of people. i know you met with mr. zimmerman last night. how shocked was he? >> he's troubled by it. he's concerned about the whole process. he's stressed. of course, he is tired. and was surprised with the charge. >> i know you're just getting started on this case. but does your gut tell you that the prosecutor has some bombshell evidence to back up this charge? or is it some kind of a negotiating ploy for a possible plea bargain? >> i would imagine she, as most prosecutors, would have looked at the case and charged the highest crime that she thought she could. that's appropriate, from her perspective. and we'll deal with it as the evidence starts coming out. >> i know your client is going to plead not guilty in this case. do you think you still have a shot of preventing this case from going to trial, under the provisions of florida's stand your ground law? >> it's difficult. the stand your ground law is an affirmative defense that can be presented at trial. there may be pretrial motions to it. there's always a possibility of resolving it short of trial. but we have no idea where we're going. >> how worried are you about mr. zimmerman's ability to get a fair trail in seminole county? >> i think if the trial was held today, it would be extraordinarily difficult. we're going to have some time between now and any eventual trial date should it occur. i'm hoping things will calm down. i'm hoping the community will truly let us do our job, the prosecutor and me, to get this case tried fairly and only in front of the jury. not on tv or in the streets. >> you haven't decided yet to go for a change of venue? >> not at all. much too premature. >> what more can you tell us about how george zimmerman is doing? you said he is stressed. >> think about it. any one of us in the situation he's in for the past couple of weeks, where he couldn't walk down a street, couldn't walk into a 7-eleven, or doing anything, with fear of reprisal of what's going on, it has to be stressful. isolating. >> his previous legal team seemed to indicate he was behaving erratically before. did you see any evidence of that with him? >> i didn't see any of that at all. or when i talked to him last night. >> and robin is about to talk to trayvon martin's parents. does mr. zimmerman have any message for them this morning? >> the problem is, any message from mr. zimmerman i wouldn't want to communicate at this point. we're going to sort of wait on that. i gave my condolences to the family because they're going through a horrible time, having lost a child. i hope they understand that it's a stilted process. that we can't have conversations like that right now. >> but he is sorry, isn't he? >> without question, about the tragic way that trayvon martin passed. there's no question he is sorry for that happening. he wished, of course, none of this ever happened. >> mr. o'mara, thanks very much. >> sure thing. robin? >> all right, george. for more, now, we turn to the parents of trayvon martin, sybrina fulton and tracy martin, and their attorney, benjamin crump, joining us this morning. good morning to you all. and thank you for spending a little time with us. sybrina, if i could, i want to start with you. all along, you have said that you wanted a fair look at the evidence. and for george zimmerman to be arrested. when you got the call from the special prosecutor yesterday, what was your initial reaction? >> i was overwhelmed. there were tears. but they were tears that i was satisfied with her decision. >> did you have your doubts that you'd ever get a call like that? saying that to you? >> well, it wasn't as much as a doubt because we -- we've always believed that once the evidence was examined properly, that we would receive a call letting us know that there would be charges brought against zimmerman. >> and you have both said that you know this is just the beginning, as you put it. moving forward, what are your emotions? and what are your feelings as he is now in jail, george zimmerman, but knowing the road ahead? sybrina? >> we have a sense of peace right now because we know that the person that shot and killed our son will be held accountable for it. we can't really say what the outcome will be. but we have committed to this journey. >> and mr. crump, moving forward, what happens next? >> robin, this is only first base. we know that this is going to be a long journey to get around the field. this family has asked for an arrest so they can go before a judge and a jury, robin, and everybody can make sure it's fair. and they can accept the rule of law. and we want everybody else to be peaceful and calm. >> and a special prosecutor, sybrina, praised you and trayvon's father for how you've handled everything. but she was also quick to point out that it wasn't because of the public outcry that the charges have been brought. it was because it was the law and it was the right thing to do. but what do you want to say to all those people across the country who walked with you and trayvon's father, seeking justice? >> i just want to say thank you. it's just good to know there's people supporting us. and people were praying for us. and people that signed the petition. and it's just overwhelming. it really is. and we're just thankful for all of those people that really helped out. the churches, the clergy. it was just individual students, the college students, the law firms. we just really appreciate so much for so many people to reach out to us. to let us know that we are not alone. >> people from all across the country, from all walks of life. sybrina and tracy, thank you. our hearts continue to go out to you. and mr. crump, thank you again. i'm sure we'll speak to you down the road. take care. >> thank you. >> can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions they've felt the last six weeks. >> boirks that is right. we're going to turn to politics now. "your voice, your vote." and all that talk about a war on women in the presidential race is getting personal. with the democratic strategists taking off on mitt romney's wife. and ann romney striking back immediately on twitter. it happened overnight. and abc's john berman here with all of the details. good morning, john. >> the second this happened overnight, you knew it would explode. it puts ann romney in a white-hot debate that deals with politics and hollywood. it began with hilary rosen, an adviser to the democratic national committee, said this about ann romney, who raised five sons. >> you have mitt romney running around the country saying, well, my wife tells me what women really care about are economic issues. when i listen to my wife, that's what i'm hearing. guess what? his wife has actually never worked a day in her life. >> reporter: boom. instant twitter explosion. ann romney firing back with her first tweet ever. i made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. believe me, it was hard work. her son, josh, jumping in. ann romney is one of the smartest, hardest working women i know. could have done anything with her life. chose to raise me. but rosen didn't back down. responding, i'm raising children, too. but most young american women have to both earn a living and raise children. you know that, don't you? all of this comes as romney tries to close a big gender gap. our latest poll gives the president a 19-point advantage with women. and while rosen doesn't work for the obama campaign, campaign manager jim messina engaged in instant damage control. i could not disagree with hilary rosen any more strongly. her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. she should apologize. rosen later wrote an article, saying what she was questioning was ann romney's connection to women and their economic problems. i'm sure you'll hear more from mrs. romney today. >> all right, george. >> no question about that. now to the miracle baby. a jaw-dropping story of a last-minute discovery that gave two parents their newborn baby back. their daughter had been declared dead. you're not going to believe what happened next. abc's cecilia vega has that story for us. >> was it the power of a mother's intuition, that drove this argentine woman to insist on seeing her stillborn daughter one last time? the hospital staff told these young parents their baby, born three months premature, showed no signs of life. from the delivery room, her tiny body was sent to a refrigerated hospital morgue. and that's where she spent the next 12 hours, until her parents came to say good-bye. we looked for a crowbar to open the box. i started to pry it open. and i took a deep breath. that's when my wife went to look at the body first. then, she uncovered the hand and the face. and then, there was a first whimper. the mother thought she was hallucinating. and then, the baby girl moved. the hospital had already issued a death certificate, saying the baby died of unknown causes. but it turns out, her time in that refrigerated morgue may actually have helped her cling to life. >> the temperature lowering so quickly, actually acted to protect the baby because the brain didn't need as much oxygen. >> reporter: hospital staffers say the baby girl weighs just 2 1/2 pounds. but her strength is remarkable. she reportedly needed no resuscitation after her parents found her. and though she is now in intensive care, her condition is good. >> you have to make sure she's breathing on her own. you have to make sure that she's able to feed on her own. they can't know from one day to the next, how she's going to do. if she's going to be able to make it. >> reporter: for many, what happened in this town is nothing short of a miracle. which is why her parents named their tiny, little girl luz milagros, spanish for miracle light. for "good morning america," cecilia vega, abc news, new york. >> wow. >> unbelievable. >> that, it is. >> we're praying for you. >> yes, indeed. we're back, now, to sam. >> speaking of temperatures below freezing -- >> oh, you did not. >> i did. 20 states at near or below freezing. 20 states. now, the general rule of thumb is, when you have temperatures below 25 degrees and you have buds on the trees, apple buds, in particular, you're going to lose about 90% of them. that's the concern in minnesota and michigan. i have 30 seconds, now i have 10. 33 in raleigh. 30 in lexington. here's where the storms line up today. all along between the two fronts. the strongest storms, wichita, oklahoma city, lubbock, dallas, del rio, you're involved in it. el paso, you are not. houston, looking at some of the strong storms. keep an eye with your local abc stations. nd michigan. i have 30 seconds, now i have 10. 33 in raleigh. 30 in lexington. here's where the storms line up today. all along between the two fronts. the strongest storms, wichita, oklahoma city, lubbock, dallas, del rio, you're involved in it. el paso, you are not. houston, looking at some of the strong storms. keep an eye with your local abc stations. > l ofameri's wthern -pe ne ha. was his mistress really the mastermind?
