Right now many in cedar rapids are demanding answers after an officer involved shooting earlier this month. A crpd officer shot jeremie mitchell who remains hospitalized now two weeks since the shooting. Cbs 2 News Reporter dora miller has been following this case from the beginning. Beginning. Every night youll hear them on this family of Jerime Mitchell making sure he isnt forgotten. Forgotten. We basically want to make sure that this does not swept under the rug. Mitchells family says the one thing they want from the officials. Answers about what happened that night but release of a crucial video is still on hold. Hold. It just adds insult to injury, we just really want them to release it so that way we can get justice. Justice. The longer it takes to get the information out about what happened, the more difficult it is to get people transparency and an effort to work together. While they wait and protest for support. Support. Mitchells family says they will continue to keep it civil. Civil. With these peaceful demonstrations, we want to make sure our voices are heard, were bringing awareness but we want to make sure were doing it the right way. While Community Members continue to bring awareness to issues that are hitting closer to home. Home. We dont like the concept of people getting stopped for taillights and license plate lights because far too often for african americans, that doesnt end positively. Doenst happen to any other family because this is horrific. Horrific. Dora miller reporting, his mother and niece both say mitchell is hanging in there. They say hes a fighter and they will continue fighting on his behalf. Meanwhile Cedar Rapids Police are now responding to public demands to release dashcam video of that shooting. The Department Tells cbs 2 news officer lucas jones pulled over 37yearold oneam on november first. They say mitchell started fighting with officer jones who then shot him. Mitchell drove away hitting two vehicles before being taken to university of iowa hospitals and clinics where his family says he remains paralyzed. The crpd now says it is following the advice of the Linn County Attorneys Office and not releasing the video because its part of a dci investigation. Officer jones is still on paid adminstrative leave which is protocol for officerinvolved shootings. Shooting for which officer jones has been investigated. He was cleared in last years . Deadly shooting of jonathan gossman. There are a number of cases where video in a controversial case came out in a matter of hours or days. But this case and whats happenign is . Mary beth haglin was fired this past summer after telling cbs 2 news she had a sexual relationship with a washington high student while she was substitute teaching there. She has been charged with Sexual Exploitation by a school employee. Earlier this month her lawyer asked her trial be moved because media give her a fair trial. Hes responsible for the death of 2 year old kyrian knox two years ago. His 2 year olds remainwe lagoon last year and since then police have been looking for the person responsible for his death. Authorites say evidence was found in his harriss carwhere he claimed the boy was never in. According to authorities harris had been watching 2 year old kyrian in september 2015, after his mother moved from rockford to iowa to start a job. Thats when police say he killed the boy because he was cried from a milk allergy. Cooperated with authorities and have requested a lawyer.
