testament to how beautiful our community is. in less than a week this unplanned operation has fed 14,000 tonight. they have gotten lunches and dinners from volunteers. take a look at this. so much food here and so many volunteers helping out with these lunches and dinners. all these meals are given to people displaced by the flood. people that live there are going to hotels and what's really impressive is all of this food isn't only donated but not necessarily sought manpower. they have had people come down from minnesota to help and they got an anonymous prime delivery. >> just when we need something for some reason it appears. we ran out of bread the other day and within 15 minutes somebody pulled up with a palate. actually 15 palates of bread. . >> i wanted to show you what's in these meals that they're handing out to everyone. today the bags are decorated by west field elementary students. this one is decorated for the family so each person in the meals get a sandwich and chips and some sort of protein and cracker snack and they get a granola bar and apple and sweets. snacks. also some snacks to sustain them throughout the rest of the day and right now this is all starting. driving are pulling up now to pack up these dinners and deliver them to people who are out in the flood zones and needing to eat tonight. is there anything we need over here? ? >> yes, i'm glad you asked. tonight they are in very much need of drivers to deliver this food to the flood zones. wherever you're comfortable driving that's where they will send the meals. they are in much need of bread and cheese slices and sandwich meat to continue making sandwiches. they need trail mix to help sustain with snacks and bottled water. and drivers if you can't come out tonight, they will need help throughout the rest of the weekend and this township hall is located at 211 angle street to help with this foundation helping our community to do what they can. horizon is making sure clients have enough to eat. they delivered ten days werth of meals. they will reopen health and wellnesses offices on monday. >> cedar rapids police say organizations like the national guard to come in and help out with flood control because they could keep doing their jobs. a deadly stabbing that happened after 2:00 this morning at college park court southwest. an 18-year old had stab wounds and he was rushed to the hospital but he died an hour later. police say they have interviewed several people about the stabbing and are investigating it as suspicious. this is by the way the second involving a teenager. that has more people in the community looking to turn these acts around. a new facebook group has been formed asking for ideas and how people can put them into action. >> i just reached out to the facebook group and said there's a lot of creative people in this town and a lot as we have seen people willing to help and now that the focus is off the flood we ed by people volunteering to help the kids. >> police are not releasing the victim's name of the stabbing until his family has been notified. we'll keep you updated as more information comes in. the weekend is finally here and it's off to a cool start. let's find out what's in store. before we get to that i just want to touch on the river rapids. we're under 15 feet and by the time we get to midday sunday we will be below flood stage so the river is dropping at a nice steady page and things moving along nicely as we get the thing to move on downstream. we take a look at satellite and there's the clouds that came in and kept the temperatures cool around eastern iowa. tonight the clouds will be around for high school football games but only one or two ra be brief and light. no big deal with the rain. temperatures around 61 with northeast winds and for tomorrow we get into the weekend with more clouds and temperatures about like today folding in the 60s. big improvement is expected on sunday and we'll tell you all about it in the forecast coming up. life for most is returning to normal as the flood waters recede but still some employees face hardship. explain one opportunity workers have as the city recovers. >> scott and karen i'm here in the knew sorrow district where businesses come to a screeching halt. despite the shut down these places have been able to stay open and they're keeping employees on the book and like others they have hired extra hands in the hopes of reopening sooner rather than later. still for many workers they can only watch and wait without a paycheck or so employees impacted but the flooding can file unemployment. today officials say the iowa work force development center has received more than a hundred calls and for businesses not operating or running with reduced hours employees can apply for unemployment but many business owners say they don't anticipate this becoming a big issue. . >> if you look at 2008 there downtown and we lost a lot of business in the flood. businesses closed down and people moved away. so yeah, i would say that barrier failed and we were looking at a 3-6-month recovery time down here. now it's a different story. >> he has discussed the options with his workers but none of them have expressed interest according to him and rather they want to get back to work. covering the rapids, cbs two news live at 5:00. now you have a place to drop off sandbags. the city accepted wet and dry sandbags at knoll ridge park. the city is also considering another drop off site at king ston stadium. >> we have a better look at the aftermath of the flood 2016. lynn county released the most properties assessed in cedar rapids yesterday saw minor damage like water in the basements. 35 buildings weren't affected at all. two had structure damage that could be fixed. ten required repairs that would take up to a month. 22 buildings had minor damage and another 13 will take a month of repairs to get up to code. three cedar rapids mayor suggested because the city did a great job in protecting buildings we nba not get as many federal funding in 208. only one building in palo had properties, emergency management officials say only buildings that had major damage or were destroyed are considered when asking for federal dollars. in north liberty could be up and running within weeks. yesterday, the johnson county board of supervisors took a look at the deal. under the pilot program, a bus would run between the senior living center, select neighborhoods, the community pantry, community center and fareway. right now the plan is to run the bus between 10:20 and 1:30 monday through firday. all that's left is a stamp of approval from the city and council of governments. the man in charge university of iowa health care is stepping down. today, jean robillard announced he will resign as dean of the medical school and leave his leadership post at u-i-h-c. robillard says he will remain a faculty member in the department of pediatrics. he joined u-i in 2003 as dean of the college of medicine and before long, took on more management roles. robillard also recently filled in as interim university president budged over the past couple of spinning around that has now pushed the clouds back into eastern iowa and well to the east. there's even a few showers and we could catch a couple later tonight and early morning hours tomorrow and with clouds around today you can see the impacts on temperatures and the high end only 60 degrees. 63 in cedar rapids. in waterloo the sun held for a while before the clouds got in. as a result they got up to 66. speaking of warmth, it's been a warm september here in eastern iowa. the numbers are starting to come in now. iowa city coming in six degrees above normal. there's did dubqeu at 24. temperatures around the low 60s around eastern iowa. the clouds having an impact. uniform temperatures across the region and again on the sart tonight the storm system is centered right down here and lobes of energy rotate around the cut off low which is not moving much. the main jet stream to the north so until we can get something to move along it pretty much me sanders around the midwest and we'll show you that on the upper air chart here. down to the south it starts to a nice curve and kicks out. low pressure takes it place over the western u.s. and that's bringing a good surge of winds tuesday of next week. we'll see a nice warm up here and temperatures will be close to ten degrees above normal by the time we get to next tuesday and there's our next chance for rain into the area along about wednesday as the front comes on through. here in the short term, rain totals will be light. models still showing 700th area. i think that's probably a little on the high end. most of the rain should remain well to the east of us. with that being the case, here's what we're showing you on the doppler. not too much in the area now but the showers east
