Karen leaders at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church say they know what its like to need help when you have nothing left its how they survived the floods of 2008. Thats why theyre collecting thousands of bottles of water to ensure flints Community Gets safe drinking water. Water. You need help, you need help. Cases of bottled water stack up like mountains inside Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Church. It started from just phone calls. Pastor Damien Miguel Epps says a fellow wanted midwest churches to help flints leadtainted water crisis. Mount zion reached out to others and thanks to the help of surrounding churches and residents, the cases continue to pile up. Up. I get a lot of calls about are you still collecting water . Are you still collecting donations . And i say yes were still collecting and to bring it on. Seeing the rooms at his church fill up makes pastor epps think back. Back. Most of my family experienced the catastrophe of katrina, so i know what its like to feel displaced and not have anything that you grew up with. The hotel clerk says Blake Fitzgerald forced him into a car sunday and ended up dumping him an hour away. Reporter describe that ride to me. He had a gun in his lap the entire time. I was trying to stay calm and being sarcastic and trying to crack jokes. A short time later, police say fitzgerald kidnapped a woman from her home. The couple allegedly forced the woman into her car. They let her go a few miles down the road, taking her suv. The rampage continued through georgia and florida where the pair was eventually spotted. Then you get into a lot less snow on the ground in some places in the upper 20s to near 30. A little wave of snow has been trying to work its way across eastern iowa. You can see it on the radar now, advancing slowly off to the east. Well go in somewhat closer here. Its still to the northwest of cedar rapids. Its about the water now. Mainly confined to highway 20 and interstate 80. This will come across the region tonight. Worst Case Scenario may be an inch of snow. Most areas, just a dusting from the looks of things tonight. That does indicate the warmer air is moving back into eastern iowa. The snow showers come to an end once that gets established. Then another strong front comes in early next week. That brings in much colder air, light snow as we get to late sunday night and monday. Todays temperatures, once again, impacted by the know cover substantially in our major cities. One the morning low in waterloo. Elsewhere, temperatures are holding right around 14 to 16 on the overnight lows. Heres todays highs. Farther to the west, a much stronger dissubbance is going up into canada and dropping quickly to the southeast by the time you goat to sunday. Thats whats known as the clipper. Clippers bring southernly winds and thats why warmer temperatures are expected as we get towards the weekend. However, by sunday night, you can see the storm track starts to buckle as the clipper moves southeast. Then we get that a strong on the backside of this low pressure, much colder air moves into the upper midwest. This will also generate snow showers and some gusty winds. I do think there is the chance we could see up to an inch of snow later sunday night and monday. Our model indicates about an inch and a half. Thatd be the worst Case Scenario, but with that cold air and high winds and snow on the ground in North Central iowa, there are blizzard watches in effect. That is a long ways away. I dont think well have much of an issue with that, although it will get colder and well see snow early next week. Heres our predictor that does have clouds and snow showers through midnight. After those move on out, we still deal with the clouds. Then come tomorrow morning, the clouds are still with us, but by later on in the day, they should break out a little bit. The forecast tonight has temperatures around 20 to 24 on the lows with cloudy skies and scattered snow showers. Again, mainly a dusting tomorrow. Look for temperatures to pop mid30s.
