especially important following the recent flood in september. cbs 2 news reporter joe huisinga joins us now with their progress. organizers of the west side rising memorial project hope to have the sculpture complete before the 9th anniversary of the 2008 flood this coming summer.now a 75 thousand dollar matching grant from the hall perine foundation has brought the project one step closer to reality. west side rising is meant to the hard work that the residents on the west side that lost their homes did in moving this community forward. 11with flood protection plans becoming clearer they hope it will also be a center piece of renewed development. the memorial will be part of a larger plaza some what like greene square with this beautiful piece of art for people to gather and reflect and have a place to get together and then around them they will see th properties so it will really signify that the west side is coming back. 22 this is not the first time the west side has recovered from devastation. there was also a major flood in 19 19 they were going to make a memorial then and they put the concrete base in the ground but couldn't complete it because of the economic conditions. 10west side rising committee member gary hinzman says its more important now than ever to finish the work started so long ago.it speaks to the nature of these west side neighbors help somebody else before themselves and they've always been hard working industrious people and they showed that again in the recent flood. 11 no matter how great the recovery it is always important to of the main street challenge from the iowa ecomonic development authority.cedar rapids is set to receive 75-thousand dollars to help spruce up the old white elephant building in the newbo district.that project will cost more than 350- thousand dollars.a total of 965-thousand in state grants will help fund 14 brick and motor projects across the state. holiday shopping is taking a to mess around with rain or snow earlier in the day. the low pressure is moving out of minnesota tonight and heading for canada. it is pushing a cold front through eastern iowa and colder air comes in behind that will deliver the clouds in the colder temperatures in the next 24 hours. once the colder air arrives, that will be through the first half of the coming weekend. you can see the disturbance to the east of us -- the east of us with chillier air. clouds will be part of the forecast for the next couple of days. on the predictor, you can watch how those spin through the area. here we are at all day su yesterday. >> rebecca kopelman has the new information they discovered . there were eight reports of tornadoes and they have confirm 4 so far. all 4 more read -- were rated at an ef-0. these were week tornadoes, but they produced up to 75 mile-per-hour winds. in our area, we had one confirm near parkersburg. this one was on the ground for at left damage to roads and the shed was blown off of its foundation. in grundy county, that tornado was on the ground for a shorter period of time, just 2/10 of a mile. they did produce strong winds and were on the ground for quite some time. those were the only two and our area. down to the west and southwest, there were two more ef zero tornadoes here in iowa -- ef-0 tornadoes here it is not all that odd, but it is considered one
