For years now, the use of Traffic Enforcement cameras in cedar rapids has made for a lot of controversy. Controversy. If youve ever gotten a ticket in the mail, you likely thought you had to pay it or face a blemish on your credit history. But thats actually not the case. Case. Fox 28 News Reporter dora miller joins us live to clear up the misconception. Just one half of one percent of people actually get these speeding tickets from the Traffic Cameras. If youre part of that small group, your ticket might not impact you as think. So a Traffic Camera caught you speeding on interstate 380. You only realize that when you find the dreaded citation in the mail. Mail. Ive gotten a couple because they have one right at my exit. But that 75 dollars pocket. I dont remember what happens if you dont pay it. What if i told you that nothing happens if you dont pay it . Ha. Ha. The hammer in the past has been that it can affect your credit rating, so if you were out to look for a car loan or a house loan, there would be this on your record. Now mayor ron corbett whos lobbied for the controversial cameras says that hammer has lost its impact. Impact. The Collection Agency will attempt to collect on that fine and if people still dont pay then the only other resource the city would have would be to take the individual to court. In the big scheme of things, corbett says thats not an option the city plans to explore. Explore. Last year, a court turn over unpaid tickets to a Collection Agency. But they could no longer be sent to a credit bureau. Bureau. Federal investigators are looking into accusations of gender bias within the Athletic Department. Department. The case was first opened after four womens Field Hockey Team members filed complaints. Complaints. They claimed the head of the department ignored coach. More than a dozen areas of the Athletic Department are now under investigation. Investigation. If discrimination is proven, the university could be forced to alter its policies, commit more money to womens athletics or add more womens sports. Police are charging ryan tupper with two counts of Second Degree sexual abuse. The alleged incidents took place over two periods of time between 2006 and 2012. The victim was reportedly under the age of 12 at the time. Tupper is being held at the Fayette County jail now to washington county. Where students are mourning the loss of a classmate. Midprairie superintendent Mark Schneider tells fox 28 news, the school was locked down yesterday because a student was reported missing. Hours later, authorities hawbaker. The data shows the solar cells can detect a changewhich means theyre getting closer to providing an alternative test for Cancer Patients. It was really excitingresearch assistant wenqi duan has spent hours making solar cells and a prototype from scratch that will be able to detect if a patient has cancer. Its a waiting game and your praying and waiting to see if treatments work. Anything to more accessible in general to everyone who needs it. She uses this 3d printer to make a prototype thatll hold the solar cell and blood sample. In another lab, she makes the solar cells. Its a small cartridge with a chip inside that we can layer for electrical and optical signals signals there would be probes attached to this that would detect electrical optical changes that would detect if theres cancer just like patients with diabetes, Cancer Patients would be able to test if they have cancer from home. The team says they would test for Prostate Cancer first, but their main focus is to make sure this test is affordable and accurate for all Cancer Patients.
