They prevented entry to the room where the discussion was to take place, the chairperson decided on his own authority to hold the final debate from wednesday evening through thursday morning local time. The legislation would expand the role of japans selfdefense forces abroad. It would allow sdf personnel to use force to defend countries that are closely related to japan. But lawmakers flocked around the entrance to the Committee Room and stopped the meeting from taking place. The committees executives met off and on to discuss how to proceed. Talks between the chairperson and senior officials of the Democratic Party failed to narrow their differences. The chairperson decided on his own initiative to resume the executive meeting on thursday morning. The governing coalition remains poised to have the bills enacted by the end of the week.
