This morning, were working to get more information after a vehicle collided with a man in cedar rapids. We first told you about this last night at 10. Police responded to 1st avenue night. Thats just north of the Cottage Grove Senior Living community. Officers shut down one lane of traffic on 1st ave while they investigated. Our photographer at the scene found a car there with part of its windshield smashed in. Police at the scene said the driver of the car is ok. Officers werent sure of the pedestrians condition. An ambulance took that man to the hospital. Were expecting to receive more information from police later this morning. A fundraiser today will help an eastern iowa girl recover after a crash more than two months ago. The iowa state patrol says 42yearold marilyn coon and her daughter hailey died in this crash in marengo on june 30th. Coons other daughter, 9 yearold lana coon, went to uihc with serious injuries. A Facebook Page for todays frundraiser says lana has been in the hospital ever since. Doctors put her in an induced coma for 2 weeks because of damage to her and auction to help raise money for lanas recovery. The event begins this afternoon at 4 00 at city hall in parnell. A representativ e said jefferson parents should have conversations with their kids about what happened. The company Dakota Access is in the process of building the pipeline from north dakota to illinois. It will cut through 18 counties in iowa. The group says the pipeline is infringing on property rights, along with endangering water and construction isnt happening for the time being in north dakota. The Standing Rock sioux tribe there received a mixed message yesterday about the pipeline. First, a federal judge denied the tribes request to stop construction, which would take the pipeline under a lake near their reservation. But after that decision, federal agencies asked Dakota Access to stop construction on a 40 mile span of land along that lake. Now, the army corps of engineers will review its decisions on whether the pipeline shou the work stoppage is bringing them new hope.
