The businesses here in Czech Village are almost all cleared out. This one is an antique shop, you can see sandbags are stacked pretty high, windows boarded up. The last few days as the area prepares to potentially flood. Right now the city is recommending voluntary evacuations to businesses and people who live in this area. This outage is intentional alliant is making changes to a substation and the power grid so that if there is flooding these homes wont lose power. These homes around mckinley arent in the flood zone but the substation that powers them is. Now as for power to the homes and businesses in the evacuation zone Alliant Energy is not planning to cut power there unless they flood. So people are clear Alliant Energy is not preemptively cutting power in the flood zone. Only if it actually Mckinley Middle School will experience Power Outages for about an hour and a half. Linn county and cedar rapids now have four sandbagging locations. Theres one at the old kmart near 16th avenue and williams boulevard southwest. Another at hawkeye downs. And the city has reopened a sandbagging location at the ellis park pavilion. Linn county is also sandbagging at the countys secondary roads building. No hectic at these sites, but the city is urging people to not take empty sandbags. Either fill them or have them filled first. The sandbagging sites are there for people wholl need them for their homes and businesses in the flood zone. We just got word that waterloo will be closing its sandbagging site at the department of transportatio n facility at seven oclock tonight. But there may still be sand bags remain open.
