so has the american kennel club. it too has come out against the increased license fees and new regulations. in des moines, forrt saunders, kcrg-tv9 news. the iowa senate will likely debate a bill to kill privatized medicaid in the state, tomorrow. the bill would order the department of health and human services to terminate contracts with the three companies scheduled to take over iowa's medicaid program. the state is scheduled to transition to privatized care on march first. the transition was supposed to happen january 1st. but federal regulators said the state needed more time to sign-up iowans. the legislationonas a solid chance of passing in the senate tomorrow where democrats hold a narrow majority. it'll face trouble in the republican-controlled house. speaker linda upmeyer said she likely won't let the bililon the house floor, because governor branstad will certainly sponsor of the legislation, is hoping upupeyer will reconsider if republicans have a good show of support tomorrow and in the house. "hopefully she'll see that there maybe a lot of republicans and democrats who will support this bill when it gets over there and it won't be dead on arrival. "i think that it's definitely something that's serious and it should be a precaution like before we go definitely and be smart about it. " there is no vaccine for the zika virus the centers for disease control advise people traveling to the infected countries to wear long sleeves and pants, and use environmental protection agency's registered insect repellents. doctors in dubuque say pregnant women are zika virus. medical associates obstetrician erika o'donnell says in brazil, the virus has been linked to a serious birth defect. that's called microcephaly, and it causes small heads in babies of infected mothers. o'donnell urges pregnant women to follow the c-d-c recommendations. "patients who are pregnant and have gone to an affected country, it's now recommended that they get tested when they come back, even if they did not have symptoms. " medical providers tell us the zika virus is not a mandatory reportable illness, lili the mumps or influenza. finley hospital in dubuque now has a new birthing simulator to help in educating staff members. the families of long-time finley nurses, beth hoefer and mary riegler, donated the noelle birthing simulator. it shows the birthing heart sounds, and a removable abdominal cover. it so prepares nurses for any complications that might come up during a delivery. "we can simulate decreased heart rate which happens all the time. and the nurses have to go through the right steps to correct it. " "education was very important to her. she was very involved in starting up the neonatal icu. that was her baby, literally. " hoefer and riegler worked fo decades in the birthing unit at finley hospital. people living in the corridor now have a chance to give their opini on what they like and what services they would like to see in the area. a comomttee working on an initiative called iowa's creative corridor region vision rising opened a survey to people living in this seven county corridor area. three people are chairing this committee including university of iowa president bruce harreld. the committee will use the survey results to it is available u uil february 26th. we've put a link to it on our website, kcrg dot com. the university of iowa will soon start cutting down ash trees on the pentacrest. and it's all because workers found the the pesky emerald ash borer on a campus tree. stay with tv9. some are around the pentacrest of iowa campus could see some major changes in the next few years. landscape services plan to cut down quite a few ash trees. workers found the emerald ash borer on one tree near the main library. and now the university is planning to get rid of all of its ash trees over the next five years. about seven percent of the trees on the university of iowa campus are ash trees. that's approximately 560 ash trees altogether. and many of the trees around the pentacrest are ash trees. kcrg t-v nine'iowa city bureau chief mark carlsonn joins us live tonight. mark, the university says there's not much it can do now that the emerald ash borer has come to campus? arborists say this isn't something that has to happen tomorrow. but they do have to start planning on getting rid of these ash trees because of how t t beatle spreads frfr tree to o ee. east here on jefferson street and these are all ash trees on both sides of street here. ash trees are all over near the heart of the university of iowa campus. from iowa jefferson street to both sides of the t-anne cleary walkway. many more than a half- century old. " it's not going to look like a clear cut, a lot of them are spread out, but those are the areas, along those streets, the pentacrest that may be noticeable because it's just a single species along the street. "we'll start to identify ash trees that either have disease decay, are in poor site locations, and we'll start to remove those and work on u-i officials say the good news -- hopefully by planting many different species of trees this next time around, they can stop this sort of things from happening again. "the silver lining in this, one of the things we're going to do, is diversify our urban forest."
