first. 5849 its an education piece. it's a binine substance no body can get high off of it its like oh. this isn't the scary evil thing we thought it was. sally has met with nearly every presidential candidate in des moines and says shes gotten good feedback from most of them. but right now the real question is who in washington will vote to support her. reporting in washington, i'm alex miller. right now, iowa is one of 17 states that have laws allowing limited use of a marijuana product for medical purposes. iowa's law says people can possess cannabis oil and use it for treatment of severe epilepsy. but those people cannot produce or transport the oil in our state. some democratic presidential candidates are chiming in on the medical marijuana debate. bernie sanders says he would take a similar approach to the bill that iowan sally gaer is remove the drug from the controlled substances act. would like the government to reclassify the drug to allow more federally sponsored research on its effects. and republican front runner donald trump would like marijuana legalization to be a state issue. he wants medical marijuana to be available to people that need it to help with an illness. republican bobby jindal is dropping out of the presidential race. the louisiana governor says now is not his time. jindal has failed to gather much support in recent polls. his departure leaves 14 republicans still in the race. jindal wrote on his campaign facebook page today that he will now go back to work at the think tank he started a few years ago. a university of iowa faculty group that's been very vocal about its disagreement with the hiring of university president bruce harreld met with him late this afternoon. approved a vote of no confidenccin the iowa regents for selecting harreld. today, the senate voiced those same concerns when they sat down with the new president in a closed doored meeting. harreld has said all along that if anyone has concerns about tt job he is doing, he wants them to come directly to him. he's also said that even with all the criticism about his hiring, he's not going anywhere. we hope to have responses from some of the faculty senate tonight on t-v nine news at ten. the university's graduate student union is also holding a public forum tonight to discuss that group's concerns about bruce harreld's hiring. the discussion will also include some other hot button issues on campus, including racial tensions and sexual assaults. that public forum is at seven this evening in van allen hall. meteorologist joe winters joins us from the k-m-r-y radio studios in cedar rapids. that's where variety, the children's charity, is holding a radiothon for its compassion fund. joe, it's been a pretty dreary dayy hopefully, we can brighten it up by raising some money. more showers tonight with lingering light rain and drizzle continuing into wednesday. cooler and drier weather moves in for thursday as the winds pick up from the west. friday starts dry but another storm will be heading into the region, this time with some cooler weather in place. at this time any accumulation s of snow would occur friday night into saturday morning. we will continue the forecast as we move through the week. have a great night! tonight: showers likely low: 48-54 winds: se 10-20tomorrow: sct. showers/drizz le high: 48-54 winds: sw 15-30 back to you. some people who drive to and from senior high school say the traffic patterns need to change. kcrg-tv9's dubuque bureau chief katie wiedemann joins us now. katie, what changes could soon be coming to that area? to create a 380 parallel to clarke drive. that's expected to be complet by the beginning of next school year. right now, during dismissal time, there are 16 hundred students trying to leav at the same time. officials say the current criss cross traffic pattern makes dismissal dangerous for students. during a planning meeting of the senior high school core group, members discussed the safest and most effective way to improve traffic flow around the schooll as part of the school's total renovation project, the new main entrance will face west locust street rather than clarke drive. they say that new entrance and the new bus lane will change the after school traffic dynamic. "we have buses that are leaving the school to take kids home. we have public transportation several parents who are picking up their kids as well as student in the upper and lower parking lots.
