A pollutant in dubuque and jones county creeks has killed nearly 8thousand fish. But the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is still trying to figure out what that pollutant is. The fish kill happened on september 18th between Whitewater Creek in Dubuque County and the north fork of the maquoketa in jones county. Biologists determined that about 18thousand dollars worth of fish died. Investigators are following up with four farm owners to see if they can figure out the cause.
