With the rise of obesity and diabetes, we are striving to be healthier. But for many of us, fitting daily exercise into an already busy schedule is not easy. Fortunately, your daily activity may matter more than those quick gym visits. Researchers at the cdc looked at data from a National Survey of over 2,000 adults . Finding that total daily activity, as measured by fitness trackers, was what mattered. In other words, continuous activity even if its low intensity was more strongly of diabetes, than bouts of moderate or high intensity exercise. Of course, those inspired bursts of exercise are great ut what these findings tell us is that simply keeping those steps up throughout the day . Taking the stairs . Parking your car at the far end of the lot . Or playing with your kid at the park . Might be even more important. So it doesnt matter how you get it in . If you are the tortoise or the hare. Iowas Us Senate Candidates had a lot to say about the states agriculture during their debate. With historically high crop prices in the rear view mirror, the candidates differ on the future of Crop Insurance. And a new study looking at tractor crashes also looked at ways farmers can stay safe during harvest season. Welcome to the agribusiness night. A debate between iowas Us Senate Candidates was held in sioux city. And republican senator Chuck Grassley and democrat former iowa secretary judge and grassley agree on the renewable fuel standard, though grassley focused on the epa mandates reducing ethanol. And judge pointed out the ethanol subsidies are not as significant as those the oil industry gets. When the 2018 farm bill came up. Naturally Crop Insurance was the topic. Judge says as they address a new farm bill. They have to find whats appropriate. Namely with historically high crop prices in the rear view there are strong safety net programs under family farmers. Grassley also says they should have a safety net. But farmers already pay in. And their businesses have events like weather. And International Politics that they have no control over. Grassley compares it to National Disasters like needing government relief in hurricane events. You can have floods, and if you do, then you help them. Its 100 percent disaster. But when it comes to the farmers, they plan ahead. 95 percent of them in iowa and they pay for the Crop Insurance along with the tax payers so its a good deal for the tax payers. In a question on comprehensive tax reform in agriculture, grassley thinks with. Because farmers are rich in land but not so much in capital. He notes president ial candidate Hillary Clinton wants a 65 percent estate tax, which he claims would split up farming operations and hurt young farmers. Judge says she agrees with Hillary Clinton on most issues, but she would not vote for that one. The issue of the estate tax and the plan that she has put forward, i do not agree with. Be very clear about that. I think it is unfair to farmers. Ive been secretary of agriculture in this state. I do u fluctuation, about how you may be wealthy one day and dead broke the next day if youre in agriculture. Both judge and grassley think tax reform needs to be looked at a broader scope rather than at just individual issues. The grain market faced a bit of resistan. But the cattle. Ended the day. Limit up. Right now were seeing a bit of a pullback, and i the last few weeks. Were due for a pullback. The difficult thing about this is that were seeing this in the face of very strong export sales this morning. So that is lending some support to the soybean market but all Things Considered i think we just need a pull back to get a longer term rally both for corn and beans. Great day, we have cattle limit up right now in the live contract, feeders are almost there. The buying i think are just participants in the market saying enough is enough with this down trend. Weve been coming soa that its just ready to get going. The question remains is this just going to be a technical bounce in light of a longer term down trend. Or will this be the start of something new. But i think the commercial markets will support a longer term rally. You know, i think its a lot of the same as what were seeing in cattle. The hog market is truly surprised me over the last few weeks as ive noted in the past. We have had a lot of commercial buying but that hasnt necessarily spillover support that were getting from cattle will be something longer lasting. We are coming into a bit of a double bottom. And thats all the time i have for the show today. Thanks for tuning in. I hope to see you again next time. Well post a video every day in the agriculture section of kcrg. Com. Im david geiger with the agribusiness report. Trt oc standard Simple Solutions to save lives. University of iowa researches say farmers can do small things to protect themselves when driving on rural roads the researchers looked at crashes involving Farm Equipment in 9 midwestern states. Using data from 2005 to 2010, they estimate the number of crashes each year could drop by 60 , if the states required more lights and markings on farm vehicles. Every state of the nine state we looked at did require something, so there were policies on this, but improving those policies so they are up to the current standards, our Research Shows would make a difference in the number of crashes. The ui college of public the Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health worked on this study. They say farmers also need to follow guidelines for marking their equipment. We see things like rear end crashes, where the vehicle drive into the back of the Farm Equipment, we see a lot of crashes with passing, and then we see crashes with passing, so lighting and marking will help drivers better visualize and assess the speed of Farm Equipment. Adding visibility would lower crashes from 164 to 65 annually. You can find a link to the full study under this story on kcrg. Com. Never deny the power of applesauce. As a side for a quick meal.
