"iowans overall are just really decent people, caring individuals, so in some ways were vulnerable as well if we're not educated, and that's why i important to get those messages out there." buelow says cedar rapids policee sees a a increase in identity theft cases because of tax season. the b-b-b says the number one way to prevent all phone scams is to hang up as soon as you know it is a scam. the number of minority children in the foster care sysysm is disproportion ate to the number l ling in the state. in linn county, 51% of the 196 kids in foster care last summer identified as something other than caucasian. in johnson county, it's 73% of the 48 kids in foster care. about 92% of iowans are white. this panel discussion is part of the effort to create change. iowa kids net hosted the event. it is s group that supports foster families across the state. leaders say there are a number of theories behind racial disparity. "some families i think who aren'starting form an equitable place, in terms of education, opportunity, etc., i think the additional stress that those kinds of conditions place on a family." the group says it also faces challenges placing the children with families, because they try to keep the kids connected with their are far more caucasian foster families than african american and latino families. many organizations are recruiting more foster backgrounds. waterloo schools are also exppted to approve a contract for internet services tonight. according to the waterloo cedar falls courier, officials recommend a new contract to get 1 gigabyte per second of internet bandwidth. their current internet service gives them lesesat 300 megabytes per second. the schools would be switching from mediacom to u-p-n for this new 3 year contract. the new annual cost would be almost $36,000. the old one was $48,000 annually. the new fine arts center at anamosa high school is now open. the school held a ceremony on sunday to mark the opening of the ellen kennedy fine arts center. voters in the district narrooy approved a bond 3 years ago that provided money for the project. " it's a great celebration, it's a great thing for the kids, it's um and it's impressive, very impressive for all they've accomplished. " that bond is also funding a heating and cooling system in the elementary and high schools, a to the fitness center. big brothers big sisters has more money for its programs this midday thanks to some e ea bowlers.
