State have already issued tow bans. This is a current look at those bans from the iowa dot. Tow bans are in effect for most of the state north of highway 20. Theres also a tow ban parts of soututrn iowa like mahaska, keokuk, wapello and washington counties. Texas senator ted cruz was the clear winner from last nights iowa republic caucuses capturing more than a quarter of the caucus goers. While cruz took home 27 , donald trump who had been leading in nearly all of the iowa polling for the last two weeks finished second at 24 . Florida senator marco rubio captured a very third place at 23 percent. Whats the next step on the republican side . Science professor bruce nesmith. When you look at the republican map, its pretty diverse here orange counties going for cruz, blue counties for trump and a few in green for rubio davenport, iowa city, des moines and ames. When you look for last night because it seemed that trump underperformed. As they head into New Hampshire, where trump has a very large lead, does this give an opening for cruz and rubio . Youve got three scenarios going on and have to count the same votes. For trump, i think he did arguablypretty well on getting firsttime caucusgoers out. I think hes unlikely to perform up to his poll standing. In New Hampshire and south carolina, thats going to be different because its an election and not a caucus. Does t ts show the value in visiting iowans, retail politicking because cruz put all of his chips into iowa . Im not sure what would have been said had trump won iowa because he had not done it the iowa way. Whats e next true battleground for the republican side . It is the upcoming caucuses in nevada or is it super tuesday, four weeks from now . A series of about last night and newsworthy was marco rubio was finally able to consolidate some of the mainstream support that went for mitt romney in 2008 and 2012. That i think gives him an edge future states and whether he can continue that is something we can watch for. It was an incredibly tight finish on the democratic side last night as Hillary Clinton senator Bernie Sanders. Well look at tight finish but also whats next for the democratat race, coming up in our next half hour. After finishing behind cruz, donald trump kept his postcaucus speech quite short and without much bravado. Kcrgtv9s Washington Bureau chief jacqueline polecastro was at his speech and has more from des moines. Donald Trump Supporters say they think he can still win the nomination and the election. Donald trump professed his love to the iowa crowd after his 2nd place finish in the iowa caucus. Thank you very much, i love you people, i love you people. Thank you these vvers wear their support blazed across their chests and they arent losing faith in their candidate. In his heart he knows that he is going to get things done i dont know how he is gonna do it but i believe that he believes that he can and thats good enough for me an inependent voter turned trump republilin we got a long ways to go until the white house he still can win that and a trump caucus spokeswoman whos proud of her candidate. It wont change how i feel and i still believe that he has a very good chance at being our next president Jacqueline Policastro de s moines, ia 47 trump is now headed straight to new hampshi coming o o his 2nd place win. In des moines, iowa im Jacqueline Policastro this year a new app helped caucus officials get results out. Microsofof developop the software to make numbers faster, more accurate and more secure than in the past. Heres how it worked each party has nearly 1,700 precincts. One person from each site submitted the final results at the end of the caucus on these apps. For security, the app requires a person, which is usually the caucus chair, ype in their phone number and a special code before entering the final votes. Microsoft then tallied eveething. This app, when we decided to do it, we knew that were going to be some challenges. You know, teaching People Technology who havent used it before, dealing with some parts might not be the best. But through training, rough hard work with microsoft we are so impressed with the results. Now that caucus voting is over, many eastern iowans are focusing on more local issues. Polls open today for special elections in a handful of School Districts in the state. The Waterloo School district is hoping voters approve a 47 Million Dollar bond issue. It took hours, but earlier today, the final iowa precinct reported the results of the democratic c`aucuses with Hillary Clinton winning a very lose race against Bernie Sanders. By the slimmest of margins only a fraction of a percent the former secretary of state beat the vermont senator Bernie Sanders. Wititall precincts reporting, the Iowa Democratic party reports a to 49. 6 . After a split vote among democrats, where does it go from here as New Hampshire is next up . Such a close race it was and, just to show you, the sanders counties are in orange and the clinton counties are in red. Joining us is bruce nesmith, professor of Political Science from coe college. For one of these campaigns, whether the clinton or Sanders Campaign, can one of them head off to New Hampshire feeling better, even though it was so close . I think its the Sanders Campaign feeling a bit better, considering where they came from a year ago and where Hillary Clinton was a year ago. This was really not a good night for her, albeit a virtual tie. Look at the new few states. New hampshire, where sanders has a large lead, south the next Battle Ground . Nevada . Super tuesday with 11 democratic states voting . Any of those states could be a battleground because, if one person has a large lead, the other person can make a lot of noise just by denting that. The real test is going to be super tuesday. Bernie sanders has yet to show he can go over a large area all at one. Is this going to get nastier . I think the longer it goes on, the more backbiting theres going to be. On the republican side, it was a record breaking day for caucus goers as texas senator ted cruz won, with donald trump taking second. More than 180,000 registered republicans voted last night. To put that in perspective, in 2012 republicans had roughly 122,000 registered voters turn out. Thats was about 20 . Republican spike to the diversity of the candidates this cycle. But, also the commitment the candidates had for iowa. I think its been one of the most incredible campaigns that iowa has ever seen. Its been going on for a year. Its been going on year. Its been really enthusiastic among the candidates, among the people here. Theyve come to many events here. Theyve traveled to all 99 counties. Democratic leaders say more than 140,000 turned out for their party. Last night, first time voters were the big story at caucus locations in dubuque. Like many locations across the state, not much wiggle room at the caucus sites. Kcrgtv9s Katie Wiedemann has a recap of caucus night in the key city. The big story here was the sheer number of people. It was standing room only at 850 registered Republican Voters packed into the Roosevelt Middle School auditorium to hear republican candidates representatives make their pitch. The overflow of more than a thousand people gymnasium. Chuck whalen said, i certainly wasnt expecting this crowd. I mean it is amazing and i thought i got her early enough but there was a traffic jam in the parking lot. I knew right away ititould be an amazing crowd. First time caucus goers say they felt extremely motivated to brave the crowd and support their candidate. Ashley wood said, i think its important for our voice to be heard. To get out and caucus and this is the way to make change. Across town, democrats at the Loras College field house came out in droves. Many were also first timers. Tom auge said, i thought it would be fun to do, so i want to be as involved as possible. Bebeie sanders seemed to draw the first timers for democrats. The official winner at the precinct was marco rubio. With iowa behind them, president ial candidates are on their way to New Hampshire. While we have the honor of being the first caucus state in iowa, New Hampshire gets to be the first primary state. People in that state will select their candidates 1 week from today. Om that point, democrats and republicans will split on when theyll caucus in nevada and vote in south carolina. It all leads up to super tuesday on march 1st for that day 14 republican states and 11 democratic states will vote or caucus. Fresh off last nights win texas senator ted cruz is already in New Hampshire. This is a live look at his event in the city of windham. Recent polls in New Hampshire show cruz well behind donald trump. A cnn poll released over the weekend shows trump with an 18 point lead over cruz. Marco rubio is right behind him in third place. Hillary clinton just wrapped up an event in New Hampshire as well. She was in nashua. Clinton has an uphill battle going into next week. With his state of vermont right next door, sanders has consistently held a strong lead in New Hampshire.
