He says hes ready to get this plan in motion. To pass a bond referendum. The Linn Mar School board unanimously voted in favor of the restructurin g plan at monday nights meeting. Superintendent quintin shepherd, and the school board, agreed capacity is at the point where something needs to change and this is the least expensive option. 18 18, we realize we have to take a whole lot of people from throughout the community and get them on board to this idea of what its going to look like figuring out a way to introduce this plan to voters. That would include bond referendum. But the exact cost of that isnt known yet. Shufflin g students and constructing one new middle school is considerably cheaper then building another elementary school, middle and a Second High School. The Linn County Sheriffs Office says the crash happened shortly after 3 30 this afternoon near highway 151 and stone road. First responders had to extricate the driver from her vehicle before taking her to the hospital. Authorities have not released her name. Six students were on the bus, which the Sheriffs Office says had stopped minor injuries. The crash shut down part of highway 151 northbound for several hours. This man is going to prison for life for killing his girlfriend, who was from waterloo. Today, a judge sentenced ronald rand to life on a conviction of firstdegree murder. He killed michelle key last year at his home in hampton in franklin county. Prosecutors argued rand killed her because she laughed as she acknowledged cheating on him. Johnson county wants the army corps of engineers to explore changes to help prevent flooding on the iowa river. The county wants the corps to review its policy for where it keeps water it says the plan is old and no longer effective with increasingly wet summers. Since 1993, there has been significant flooding both at the lake and along the iowa river. Officials in Johnson County say the corps needs to take a closer look at the outdated plan before another major flooding event happens. You cannot manage a reservoir with a 1990s plan, something needs to change, a lot has changed, including rainfall. Johnson cou the cost of a new plan has dropped significantly in recent years become of new technology. They say theyd even be willing to help the corps pay for it. Nearly four weeks after the cedar river crested in cedar rapids, you can still see piles of sandbags outside some downtown businesses. Now the city wants those businesses to remove them by the end of the week. The city picked up sandbags from residential areas after last months flood, but its not doing that for businesses. And they have to make their own arrangements getting rid of them. The businesses can drop off sandbags at four locations. In the newbo district, at czech village, at kingston Street Alliant Energy power plant. The city says businesses that dont move the sandbags could face fines. A cedar rapids Non Profit Organization that helps veterans is open again. The Freedom Foundation had been closed since last months flood.
