" chief trelka and i through community meetings, best practices, outreach, conversations and a passion for this community have begun a process of community wide policing p toward regaining public trust that has been lost due to some of our short comings " " council members say they're unsure of what the exact changes of community policing will be. the city of waterloo settled multiple cases this year after lawsuits accused police officers of using excessive force. one of those came in january when the city agreed to a $2.5 million dollar settlement with the family of derrick ambrose jr. ambrose was 22. the city also settled 3 other cases recently. in 1 of them, an officer is accused of slamming a 17 year old boy face-first onto a sidewalk outside a hospital. an open records request shows the city paid the teenager to keep him quiet about a settlement. in another incident, the same officer is accused of pointing a stun-gun at a crowd. he then used it to allegedly shock a 31- year-old man who was helping with crowd control. a third incident involved a 13-year-old girl whom officers allegedly in all 3 cases, the police department justified the use of force. some people at last night's meeting say these cases show officers need to face harsher punishment. buildings. that's according to our coverage partner, k-d- t-h. the city wants to install panels on its six fire stations, the carnegie- stout public library and at the dubuque regional airport. so it's asking companies to submit proposals that detail where panels should go, how much they would cost and how much electricity are due october 20th. right now, only the city's municipal services building has solar panels. other eastern iowa cities like cedar rapids, north liberty, lisbon and tiffin have already put panels on city buildings or are considering them. kellogg is issuing a recall " more concrete progress is e today. at least 45 countries are expected to make humanitarian aid pledges. before you pop an eggo waffle into your toaster this morning, double check the box. kellogg has recalled 10- thousand cases of eggo nutri-grain whole wheat waffles in 25 states, including iowa. the company says these waffles the recalled waffles are available in 10-count packs with "best if used by" dates of november 21st and 22nd 2017. there have not been any reports of illness, but kellogg is asking consumers to throw away the affected products. consumers can obtain a full refund by contacting kellogg by phone at 1- 800-962-1413 or check the company's website. a drug resistant form of lice may have back to school. there are cases of lice every year, but now those cases are becoming more prevalent and difficult. kcrg-tv nine's brea love joins us now. brea, what is this type of lice outbreak that's growing in the u-s? chris and nicole, it's called super lice. it's a mutant, drug resistant bug and they're currently found in 48 states. iowa is one of those. drug resistant lice is something cedar rapids schools have seen before. lice is most commonly found on the elementary level, schools do not do classroom head checks anymore, but if a student is feeling itchy a nurse will check them out. if any live nits are found, the school must notify the parent, and there's protocol in place. 48:50 "the parent gets a copy of that so they know what the treatment protocol is and then we send a letter home to the classroom to notify parents there is a case of head lice in your child's classroom, please check your child's head. " compared to hillary clinton's plan to expand our refugee program by 550%, when donald trump becomes president of the united states, we will have extreme vetting from immigrants coming from troubled parts in the world, we will suspend the refugee program coming from syria until we know who earlier, pence met with supporters at the music man square in mason city. democrat tim kaine is in los angles today, taping episodes of the ellen show and jimmy kimmel live. yesterday, kaine spoke at iowa state. the virginia senator focused his speech on encouraging younger voters to get out on election ""donald trump has had a passion through his whole life too, but the problem is that passion is donald j. trump. nothing about anybody else. nothing about a policy that matters to him. his entire passion has been looking out for number one." kaine also talked about the democratic party's plan to try and make college more affordable by easing the process of refinancing student debt. with the election now seven weeks away, a lot of iowa counties are making sure votin state law requires a test. johnson county started testing its machines this week. the voting machines are about ten years old, but the county says it's confident the equipment will work on election day. johnson county plans to spend about one million dollars for new machines next year. all ballots in iowa still require pen and paper. a hiawatha man is considering filing a wrongful termination lawsuit against a cedar rapids sandwich shop. justin knapp says capriotti's sandwich shop doing the right thing. on september 10th, security video caught what could have been a theft. a customer picks up sunglasses on a table, then left. knapp posted a picture of the alleged thief on facebook, saying if the glasses were returned in 24 hours no one would call the police. knapp says the man came back a half hour later, furious, saying he had taken the sunglasses by accident. knapp says he was fired a few days later for violating that customer's privacy. that i got fired for doing the right thing. and i'd do it again.
